Ticket prices going up.....again

This is getting real old. When I first got tickets they were 32.50 the year we went to the WCF. As of next year these seats will be 40.50 which is a 20% increase and, arguably, a worse product on the floor. This might be my last year if the team doesn't improve.

well... that stinks... if we want a new arena though, we can only expect prices to go up even higher.. its what stinks about being in a small market.. ppl like the knicks and others who don't even sell out have cheaper tickets b/c the ppl see what comes out of having a nice place

Trust me on this, the Knicks do NOT have cheaper tickets.

Others do however, and I'd agree to a certain degree that its incumbent on the Maloofs to put an exciting product on the floor next year as prices continue to inch up.

The seats I have were $48.50 per seat six seasons ago. This year they were $84.50 per seat. I haven't complained because the product has been very good. There is a critical mass point where people simply will give up their season tickets, especially in the upper part of the lower level. I haven't decided what my "breaking" point is yet. I've found this is the first year where you could buy tickets at face value from people for most games.

However, there is still a lengthy list of people waiting for season tickets. I can't remember where Kings tickets prices rank. I think they are in the top 5 most expensive tickets. But, don't hold me too that.

Last I heard on the radio, there are 3,000 fans on the waiting list for season tickets. Not sure if this play a part of the tickets going up?? Or will it hurt and that list decrease?

What has been the increase per year? Has it been that much higher than the inflation rate?

Just curious...

i went to a game last year and paid 100 bucks for 2 seats, EACH....and it was the top of the lower section, i wasnt feelin that

It's varied. I think the lowel level seats have increased at a higher rate than the upper levels. My seats have gone up between 8-10% per year over the last four years. So, that's substantially higher than the rate of inflation.

Again, I haven't complained because the product has been outstanding.

Brick, I say again - with regards to prices and economics. The Maloofs only have a responsibility to their ownership, brothers sisters etc. Example, The Meadowlands (NY Giants home field) is sold out for eternity. Season passes may only be gained by birthright or acquired by legal will or upon death of the holder (no exageration). Yet they still sell out, all 70K seats. Ppl wanna gripe about prices, last I checked the Maloofs had a waiting list some 3000 strong. Economics. They will increase prices until that list evaporates. Why not? charge what the market will bear. P.S. when the new arena is built don't look for a decrease.

your right...on Napear's show...he said that there was a 50 year waiting list for Giant's tickets.
I can't see the season ticket situation going down. God knows what it will be like when we do eventually get a new arena. We'll be sold out for at least 5 years, then we'll end up with a 10 year waiting list.

Don't be so sure -- I know for a fact there was no waiting list as few as 5 years ago (because in summer of 2000 I called in and just bought mine instantly over the phone as a gift). The creation of the waiting list coincided with the Kings run of success, and more importantly the enthusiasm that accompanied it. Sacto is not NY -- in NY you have the staggering advantage of having some 20 million people living in the NYC extended Metro area, and among them millions of the richest people in the country. Corporate center of the world, etc. If you are even remotely "cool" you can sell your tickets. In Sacto its a lot dicier proposition -- fraction of the population, not nearly the money etc. -- and IMHO it would be stupid of the Maloofs to actually price tickets to such a point that they eroded that season ticket holder list away. Because at that point if (and when one day) the team sinks back toward mediocrity you're going to start see a lot of empty seats in whatever arena it may be.

In Sacto, you have a responsibility to keep the team at a very high and exciting level if you want to be able to charge ticket prices like the big boys. NY might have enough people and money to support a team at those ticket prices even if the team is mediocre. Sacto really does not.

I share season tickets with another person, which leaves me around 22 games per year. The tickets were $26.50 when I first bought them in 1999-2000. (They may have even been $22.50.) They're $40.50 now, which is an 11% increase over last year, and that was a 12% increase on the year before. I've complained before about ticket prices. My solution is just to go to the game less often. I sell half of my tickets, leaving me with 11 games or so this year. As they raise prices, I'll just cut down more and more.

I fully expect a minimum 25% ticket price increase in a new arena. That's on top of any price increases between now and then. I estimate my first year seats in a new arena will be AT LEAST $60 per ticket and I figure they'll be much further from the floor than the current tickets. Unless the Kings are championship-level team, I'll probably give my tickets up at that point.

I have no doubt that the Kings are going to squeeze this market until it screams. It's simple supply and demand. You keep raising prices until demand goes down. I'm not saying it's right, but that's the way it is. If demand starts to fall, they'll hold the line on price increases for a few years, but I'm not holding my breath.

That doesn't seem too bad to me. I paid $55 in Atlanta and they were not great seats by any stretch of the imagination but the Kings are worth it.

My tickets are in the 6th row of the corner upper level. Dollars to donuts, you were sitting in the lower bowl. The lower level tickets below me are (I believe) $84.50 now.

It's a ripp-off, but I continue to pay it....... Sometimes I don't know why though.... Just like everything else - it keeps going up....

If someone complaining wont pay then someone else will. Its business lets remember that. I understand the Kings have a nice long waiting list for people wanting season tickets. If the price gets to high then people will stop going. Right now we are still selling out night after night. If I was an owner I would also raise the prices.

That was for the middle level, lower is $75 or #85 depending on exactly where it is. However these are the Hawks not the Kings, not exactly the same caliber of team. Hawks sold out one game all year. You should expect to pay more for better teams.

My tickets are going up a $1 a ticket (I get 2 tickets). I hate it that they increase each year, however, I still won't give up my tickets just yet.
