Thompson to start

Yay! I wonder if these changes = new coach. I don't see any benefit of keeping Natt around if Carrill is going to teach him how to coach if he isn't in our future plans. Teaching a new coach who'll be around next season makes much more sense. That would be a bonus if that happens sooner than later.

Hmm. Unfortunately I still don't see this happening. I think Natt is here until Summer....wait... late April...;)

I am ecstatic.
I am overjoyed.

We have done it.

A kid moved past a vet in the starting line-up in his natural position. And the vet wasn't either injured or suspended. It's a miracle and life just seems so much brighter.

Hopefully now JT won't hit a slump and will justify why he deserves the starting nod. (Does that mean that he has to make sure to just average more than 2 points and 1 board on the road, and 4 points and 5 boards at home....? I think he can manage that.)

I know JT srtuggled in the post, but I would really like to see the team spend more time trying to set him up there. If we can get him and the team proficient in working that, it will greatly help us out in the long run.

Finally, I'm really curious as to how management is looking at Hawes. Hopefully they are looking at him as our future starter at Center who can play spot minutes at the 4 if necessary. I'm really hoping they aren't thinking to themselves that Spencer isn't starting material, due to the shooting slump he's been dealing with.

Also, I'd love to see Brad get some reduced minutes in the 1st/3rd quarters so that JT and Spencer can get more playing time together. In fact, I'd love for us to see that our team plays better/with more energy and effort when Spencer and JT are on the floor together, and see the push for Brad to get traded intensified.

As much as I'd love to see Spencer get the starting nod over Brad, I just can't see that happening as long as it looks as if we're looking to trade Brad. Of course, if Spencer can really come on strong in the 2nd half of the year, perhaps he could play himself into the starting C position.

Regardless, this is just an utterly fantastic day. JT starting and Coachie is back!

Finally.

It's long overdue, but the news is still a welcome news. I hope JT gets at least 30 minutes of significant playing time every game to accelerate his development.

Hopefully they still see him as a project with huge upside. Kid is only 20..And has barely played over 100 NBA games....

I mean, imagine what we'd have if Hawes starts hitting his shots? Probably around 15 ppg 6 rpg 2 assists 2 blocks...Not bad....NOW imagine what happens if Hawes puts effort into his rebounding (He's shown some potential on the glass)..15 ppg 8.5 rpg 2 assists 2 blocks..Thats almost allstar material!!...What if he becomes stronger and more comfortable in the post...with that he has a better fg%, more ft attempts, and more rebounds from being inside....21 ppg 11 rpg 2 assists 2 blocks...Definately allstar numbers! ...And THEN...What if he becomes the distributor that Miller is? Becoming THE MAN on offense with his scoring abilities as he enters his prime? ....27 ppg 12 rpg 5 assists 2.5 blocks ...HOFer material!!!

..I'm sure Petrie though of all that! :p

Not to be a party pooper or anything, but I do feel obligated to point out that Jason is doing no more than replacing Hawes in the lineup when you get down to it -- until 4 games ago Hawes was starting at the PF spot dating from when management again apparently rammed something down the old coach's (Theus) throat. So we're largely in the same position we were with kids at Christmas, except now we've given up on Donte and sent him to D-league.

Petrie needs to be the guy who cleans this up. I doubt Kenny Natt has ever had an original basketball thought in his life. He's a walking Basketball For Dummies book coaching in the best basketball league in the world. If you want change, you want vision, Geoff is going to have to be the guy to clear the damn vets out of the way so that we can finally get the natural rebuilding starting frontline of Hawes/Thompson paired up out there.

i agree with some things brick has said. everyone just settle down. im happy this move was made and hopefully itll mean more playing time and more touches, but we are still in the same position. this is not going to save our season, but it will hopefully give thompson more confidence

I doubt many of us think this is going to save our season, except in the sense of using it to develop our young guys.

Yes, JT's replacing Hawes at PF, but PF is where Thompson should be playing. Hopefully, we see Hawes getting a chance soon to start at center where he should be playing, instead of PF. Or at least I hope he backs up Brad instaed of Mikki.

"...we've given up on Donte..."? That's a little extreme, don't you think? I wouldn't be so quick to pull the trigger on Natt either. It's not even the end of January and you're dismissing him already. Too early to tell. I agree about trading some of the vets though...:)

Better late than never. He's our best offensive rebounder and he finally gets to start alongside our top 2 scorers and our best passing big man. This could actually make the team better. Mikki's hack-a-everyone game is more suited to come off the bench. Hawes will get more minutes at center and hopefully that puts him in position to get easier shots and spend more time patrolling the paint, affecting opponents shots and pulling down defensive boards.
