Thinking we can entice Rondo may be moot

And, despite his comments earlier in the year about the triangle, Rondo offered a pretty rosy picture of the offensive scheme.

“I think it’s effective. I think it’s great for team chemistry,” he said. “When the ball gets moving, everyone touches the ball, you get a better feel for it.”

“When guys are getting the ball they play better defense. It’s hard to run up and down the court... when you don’t touch the ball,” he continued. “The triangle I think it energizes the offensive end of the floor and also the defensive end of the floor as well.”

I don't care if he leaves

My point was and is that a lot of people around here always seem to think the Kings will get what they want. This article seems to be indicating that Rajon Rondo is thinking about greener pastures..and I certainly don't blame him one bit.

Kings fans need to keep in mind that Vlade truly has his work cut out for him in enticing free agents here.

I'd be worried if the Kings set getting Rondo back at any cost as a high priority more than him looking for greener pastures. The Kings have to maximize whatever dollars they have in free agency to find the right role players who can and will defend.

Outside of Carmelo trying to recruit him, I don't exactly see why this article would indicate much about Rondo's thinking. A reporter asked him about the Knicks' offense, he answered politely. Seems pretty innocuous.

New York papers have been doing this for decades with everyone. Webber was definitely going to the Garden too if you listened to the rags.

It doesn't change the simple fact that there isn't a lot to entice free agents to sign with us, which was my main point. Kings fans always think free agents will line up to sign on the dotted line for the privilege of playing in Sacramento simply because they (the fans) want them to. As I said previously, Vlade truly has his work cut out for him in selling the Kings to those free agents IMHO. The pathetic drama that's gone on for far too long about George Karl certainly hasn't helped.

Rondo can talk about liking the triangle all he wants and then proceed to go sign with neither the Knicks or Kings...who knows what he will do. I won't cry a river if he leaves though.

Defense and stretching the floor with 3 point shooters, is what this Kings team needs. Solid role players that make defenses pay when doubling Cousins, is what this Kings team needs.

Personally, I think Collison is part of the solution here. He is VERY underrated. The guy shows up regardless of the circumstances. Never takes a possession off on defense. I respect that more than selfish assists any day.

I'm with the "who cares crowd" on this one.

It would be one thing if we didn't have DC, but we do. ... So I think getting into a bidding war over Rondo could potentially be much worse than him walking.

If he wants to resign here for a reasonable deal, do it. ... But I would not overpay for the guy.

Remember though, after this season DC only has one year remaining so he will be an expiring contract next season.

because 1 season as a trio is hardly enough given the environment they have been raised in
Of course it is. Even on a badly coached team, an above-average trio like that should at least be sniffing 35-40 wins a year. Name another trio with as much talent, experience, and success that has achieved as little this season.

Rondo has a decade of NBA wear and tear on his body. He's had some serious injuries that he's overcome, and he's over 30 years old. It isn't a matter of when he's going to decline in the next 3 years, it is by how much. He's already a defensive liability now, and it is going to get worse. Also, once he loses another step, how much more-so will his shooting weakness be exploited when he can no longer penetrate like he is able to now? His shooting will just become an even bigger liability. All this adds up to concern even if the cap wasn't raising, but once you throw that factor into the mix, here's a guy that will want 15+ mil a season when entering his decline. The Kings organization, time and time again over the past several years, have risked long-term benefits on short-term payoffs. This is not the direction they need to be headed.

Rando used the kings to rebuild his name and cash in on one last contract. Can't blame him at all, and he did his best to make us better. But in the end, some things just stay the same around here (cousins, coach/management). 99.9% sure he will move on next season.

exactly...you understand

No way he will be back. Vlade should have traded him at the deadline and picked up an asset. He's been a true professional sans one lapse in judgement and now it's time for him to go play with Melo or whomever. Way cool with that.

I think whether Rondo stays or leaves will have to do with money. Someone is going to offer him a boatload of money, and the question is, do we really want to use all of our capspace on Rondo? Do we really want to sign him to a long contract? Does anyone really believe that if we bring back the exact same team next season with a different coach, we're a contender?

Why would we want to entice Rondo to comeback? The Knicks could save the Kings from making a more disasters signing to Carl Landry/Jason Thompson/Marco/list goes on and on

Couldn't agree more. We get Rondo IF he wants to stay. And no matter who goes and who stays Vlade has a very tough road ahead. And he is the man for me and good luck to him.

I'd honestly rather start Collison anyways. I was in denial for a while but now I've seen what people meant about Rondo pretty much playing for the assist. He's terrible on defense and isn't a threat to score, this makes post entry passing difficult because Rondo's man will instantly blitz Cousins. Also depends on what happens with Cousins, if he gets moved, Rondo is gone also and Rudy could also get traded. Also you could draft a guy like Dunn and maybe sign a vet type PG for the bench. Overpaying for Rondo seems like the worst move we could make. With that said he has been one of our best players this year.

that's rubbish - you're only as good as how you are set out to play. Our record is severely tarnished by a coach who can do no more then push his philosophy of small ball, pace and tempo.

I'm all for them loading up over the next two years. its all about the short term payoff. You build everything around the next two seasons and if/when cousins walks you hit the restart button. Do it right and we'll win and everything else will look after itself - we've set ourselves up for this. Its the way it has to be, there is no sustainability long term thinking here. One way or another our future and success is tied to Cousins. We need to load up and pay up to get there. If we can get Rondo for 10-12mill a year for the next two years i take that, anymore and i lean towards letting him walk, our time is now though, very much so.
