Thibodeau

Kingster

Hall of Famer
I thought the Maloofs first "interview" with Thibodeau went pretty well last night, didn't you?;) What better "resume" can the Maloofs hope for when it comes to a defensive coach. He just anihilated your team, held it to the lowest field goals in Kings team history. If that doesn't leave a "favorable" impression, nothing will. Forget about the Celtics superstars. What really impresses is how the 2nd team defends. The King's owner got a courtside seat to view the slaughter. Maybe after he recovers from the trauma, he'll think about hiring the coach who had something to do with beating the hell out him...

Thibodeau is not magician hence there is nothing he can do for us right now.

I think that only few people should be allowed to coach this garbage. Either GP or Maloofs - maybe even together. Putting other coaches in this situation and ruining their reputation is evil.

Please tell me the defensive stoppers that the Celtics have on their 2nd team. I don't see 'em, but I do see a good defense.

Stoppers are not the same as good defenders. Playing smart, heads up defense is different than just being physically bigger and quicker than an opponent which is usually what stoppers are.

Exactly, that's why I'm tired of the BS about needing "defensive players". So who are these great defensive players on the Celtics second team? There aren't any. So you don't need the so-called defensive players to have a very good defense, and the Adelman excuse is just that - an excuse.

Well I would argue that Garnett has always been a good defensive player, and I believe that Perkins is one of the leagues leading shotblockers. One could also argue that Rondo is a pretty good defender. However, I know what your point is and I agree with it.

I believe that the Kings with Vlade, Webber, Peja, Christie, and Bibby were one of the better defensive teams stat wise. I believe that they were second in the league in defense the year they almost won it all. When I look at that team. Other than Christie, I don't see any defensive juggernauts on that team. Team defense. Thats what the Celtic's play, and thats what makes a good defensive team

Yes, but a little chicken and the egg as the coaches have been bad choices and certainly made the team look worse.

I think Petrie needs to lead this coaching search and pick a coach that barring a major transgression we commit to for at least 3 years. We need reasonable expectation and to have some continuity for the players and to let a coach build an actual system here. I am not sure that Muss or Theus was capable of that. However, if Petrie picks Thib, Shaw, or even a Flip Saunders we need to give them time and realize we have another bad year or two ahead before we return to relevence.

I think I emphasized, "second team". That doesn't include the starters. That's what makes Boston impressive. They play great D with their bench. They outhustle, out-physical, and out-think the other team on the defensive end. And it's not just the Kings that they do it to. You have to give Thibodeau credit for that. I think Hawes, Thompson, Brown, and even Greene can be "defensive" players, but they really need some major coaching to get there. Thibodeau could be the guy.

Not arguing with you mi amigo. I'm on your side. Obviously Thibodeau is a very good defensive coach. How good a head coach he'll be is certainly debatable, but I would not be oppossed to having him as our head coach. Whoever they hire, they need to make a good decision and then commit to him for a minumum of three years. This going to be a little ugly for a while longer.

I kinda like the idea of Thibodeau and Carril combo...... Defense and one of the best offensive coaches..

For some reason, and this is completely unsubstantiated, gut-based, conjecture, I think Carill comes back, but only if we hire Eddie Jordan. The Jordan/Carril combo would be very compelling, but it'd be a close second behind Flip Saunders in my mind, as things shake up now.

The Rockets are a top 5 defensive squad. I don't think it's an "excuse".

Personally, I feel that Boston's second team D is good largely due to the leadership of the starting 5. Definitely there are players who are better defensively, just have a knack for predicting passes or simply being able to stay in front of their man. But I agree with Bajaden, it's usually team defense that is the most important, and you don't need to be a good defensive player to contribute to good team defense. What it does take is effort and hustle alongside good coaching. You've seen what KG does to the second unit when they screw up, and the only reason he can yell at them and make them listen is because the starting 5 do such a damn good job and kinda force-motivates the bench into playing hard as well.

I'd like to see Brad yell at Spence for playing bad D. We don't have a single unit that can play good team D, let alone a second team. And obviously our coaches haven't helped much either.
