Great to finally have a face to associate with the name, Elise. You look familiar somehow. Did you ever live in Sacramento and ... okay I know this sounds unlikely - attend Kings games? I just get the feeling I've seen/met you.
:D

Never lived in Sacramento or attended a home Kings game. Been to MSG and the (now) Izod Center for Kings road games though

I get that a lot, usually it's "aren't you related to ______________"

Indian Girls Plow Fields Naked in Attempt to Bring Rain

Indian Girls Plow Fields Naked in Attempt to Bring Rain
Indian farmers -- desperate for rain -- have asked their unmarried daughters to plow dry fields naked, in a bid to spark interest from the weather gods, and bring some badly needed monsoon rain.

The nude girls in the eastern India state of Bihar chanted hymns as they plowed the fields, asking for rain, witnesses told Reuters.

"They (villagers) believe their acts would get the weather gods badly embarrassed, who in turn would ensure bumper crops by sending rains," Upendra Kumar, a village council official, told Reuters.

"This is the most trusted social custom in the area and the villagers have vowed to continue this practice until it rains very heavily," she told Reuters.

So, I went camping up near Caples Lake (Carson Pass) last night. This morning we did a hike up to the ridge top (~9,500 feet) and saw a bald eagle soaring through the valley below us. It was very cool.

I think I may have broken my right big toe - but won't have time to have it looked at until maybe Thursday. We'll see how it feels after tomorrow.....

Is there a doctor in the house than can tell from a photo? My heel slipped on a carpeted stairway and I jammed my toe into the step below it earlier today.

I'm not a doctor but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn. :p

Seriously? It looks a lot like my toe looked when there was a mutiny one night and four toes went on the left side of a chair leg while the big toe decided to go on the right side. It hurt like hell for a couple of days but wasn't broken. The worst part was trying to wear shoes...

Watch for red streaks going up your foot, a lack of circulation in the toe and ... well, your toe falling off.

Just got home from the ER - and I have to drive to Fresno in about 4 hours.

Went in and had it looked at because I was getting some numbness and tingling in it. Sat for 2 hours in the waiting room at the ER. Another hour sitting on a bed (why do they have you sit on a bed? Give me a flipping chair and free up the beds for the really "sick") waiting for the X-rays. Take X-rays. Wait another hour for them to look at it and tell me what they see. Which is a slight fracture of the toe, but nothing they can really do (or need to do) - take ibuprofin for swelling. Luckily, it doesn't really hurt much.

4 hours to get an X-ray? Is this really necessary?

Portland is expected to hit 106 or 107 today  Seattle may break 100 for the first time ever if I heard the news right. I'm not really a big fan of the expression "But its a dry heat!" but I think I'd take that right now. This is getting old in a hurry.

why does suzie sell sea shells by the seashore?
Not Suzie. Actually, that little rhyme is believed to have been written about Mary Anning. I learned about her and her rather amazing life not too long ago. There's quite a bit of info about her online. Here's one site http://www.answers.com/topic/mary-anning

There's a museum on the site where she was born http://www.lymeregismuseum.co.uk/fossils.htm

Other people were credited with her fossil finds, like people who bought the fossils she sold for a living.

I'm sure you're glad you asked. ;)

I just found out that I known the guy who created House Party Live for years now. Poor guy, he knew the show wasn't good at all that's why it is canceled. Now he is in charge of the Sacramento film festival.

I had to work on a Sunday, for the first time in over a year. And I didn't get to see my son this weekend because I only get custody on weekends and, guess what, I worked this weekend. And then, to add insult to injury, I only have a half hour for lunch on this cycle. A ****ing half-hour. Thirty minutes is not enough time for a grown adult to enjoy a meal, even at ****ing Chili's; hell, you have to discount almost fifteen minutes just for the round trip travel time. Thirty minutes is barely even enough time to decompress from the **** you have to put up with in the first four hours...

Anyway, ranting aside, customer calls in and asks about ordering the service. Only I don't work in sales, I work in tech support. And sales is closed on Sundays. So I gotta answer all these damned questions, and then tell her that she has to call back on Monday. I felt like I was in this scene (the part from 0:30-1:40):

Drink whiskey to stay healthy?

Russian Soccer Fans Urged to Drink Whiskey to Ward Off Swine Flu Virus
Tuesday, August 04, 2009
Russian soccer fans have been told to drink whiskey on their trip to Wales for next month's World Cup qualifier to ward off the H1N1 swine flu virus, the head of the country's supporter association (VOB) said Monday.

"We urge our fans to drink a lot of Welsh whiskey as a form of disinfection," VOB head Alexander Shprygin told Reuters.

"That should cure all symptoms of the disease."

So it appears that I have hit the eight-thousand post mark. Again. Last time I had the fourth-most posts, behind VF, Brick and NME :)eek:). I don't know if I'm still even in the top-ten or not, but I know there's at least four people with 10K+. The only thing I find interesting about this is the fact that it took me a hair over five years to do the second time what took me a a hair under two years to do the first time.

Reminds me of a one-liner (two-liner?) by Redd Foxx: Define "frustration:" frustration is finding out for the first time that you can't do it the second time.

And "panic:" panic is finding out for the second time that you can't do it the first time.

I feel your pain, Slim. I was a 5k guy before the crash of '04 (was a mod, too... wonder what happened)...
Don't you remember that time you forgot the donuts? Our Admin is a vengeful Admin... ;)

But, I know a couple mods who'd love to have you back in the "Big Boy Chair," if you were amenable to it; one of them likes to post in teal...

You know, I just want to say that I really get a kick out of talking to my Pops about the WNBA... Parents tend to be hard to buy for in general, but I really hit it out when I got him season tickets to the Atlanta Dream's inaugural season last year; he renewed on his own this season, and really enjoys going to every game.

Can't wait until I go back home later this month for the Monarchs game; much trash talking will be had... :D
