ok,then......anyone like Brooks?
if we don't draft point guard, how many people recommend him?
I mentioned this before, but I DO like Nolan Smith alot, and if we can get him in the second round along with a SF or Kanter in the first .. I prefer that then getting Jimmer in the first and someone else in the second.
There are a lot of good young PGs to be had in the second round .. especially when whatever guard we draft wont be seeing a lot of playing time for a few years.
I've been doing a lot of thinking about this, and just trying to apply logic to what the Kings might do, and why. If we don't draft a big man, and this is assuming we resign Dalembert, or if not, we sign another freeagent as his replacement, our center/PF rotation is just fine with Thompson, Dalembert, and Cousins getting the bulk of the minutes. Same could be said for our guard rotation with Evans, Thornton, and Beno. That rotation has only one weakness. High percentage 3 pt shooting. So there's a need there.
SF is the weakest position on the team. You have Cisco, whose not a starter on a playoff team, and two guys that are still operating on potential. I just don't see the Kings adding another rookie with potential into that mix. Not if they want to jump up in the rankings this next season. I think they go with a veteran player through freeagency. So for those reasons, I think the Kings go with Knight first, and Fredette second. I do think that if Kanter were to drop down to them, then they'd have to consider taking him, because of his high value.
Yea, truth be told, we arent in the best position to be adding another high draft pick young player. We are roughly set when it comes to our bigs and guards ( again assuming Dally and Thornton are back ) .. and on a team that needs vets, the easiest slot to fill one in is at SF.
Which is why is just make so much sense to package the pick along with Omri for Iggy or make some sort of deal for Granger.
I will say this though, I think our guard core is slightly better then our big man core, which is why I have been hammering home the idea of drafting Kanter if he is there over the likes of Knight/Jimmer/Kemba.
First, I think Dally is more likely to walk then Marcus. Second, Dally/Jt/Cousins are all pretty prone to foul trouble. I just see more minutes for a fourth big then a 5th guard (5th if your calling Cisco a guard)
But in all likelyhood Kanter will be gone. Do we like vesely or Valaciunas? hard to tell because they wont workout for us. Vesely would be an interesting pickup because he could play 4th big and help out as a SF if need be.
My gut tells me that whomever the Kings draft isn't going to be a 19 year old, unless its a no brainer. I consider Kanter a no brainer. Other than that, I think they would lean toward guys like Fredette and Walker who are older, and more ready to play. I just think the Kings are done with projects for a while, and are looking for maturity as well as skill in the draft. And, I don't look at Cisco as a guard. To me he's a SF and always has been a SF. Cisco isn't athletic, nor quick enough to guard the better SG's in the league.
But the bottom line is, and I'm not telling you what I want, but I'm going on what those inside the Kings orginazition have said, is that Petrie said he wants to add a guard that can handle the ball, and is a good shooter. So thats what I've narrowed it down to. So to my mind, as I said, it comes down to Jimmer or Kemba..
Now they could just be blowing smoke for all I know. But if you look at the players they've brought in, I think its fairly clear thats what they're looking for. And none of this has anything to do with who I like at other positions. I like Hamilton and Singleton, but I just don't think the Kings are looking in that direction. I could be wrong. I know they're also bringing in Leonard. But I think they have to cover all their bases just in case. By that, I mean one of those three is likely to be there at seven.
He did get on a little run at the end, but there were a lot of bricks. He seemed pretty lackadaisical too, not much hustle running to his spots.
Thanks for the insight Baja, im more than happy to take what you've said as gospel. Jimmer or Walker doesnt both me at all and id be happy with either. For the sake of wanting to see some high percentage shooting im gunning for GP to take Jimmer but what Kemba offers is by no means 2nd rate and you could argue would service us better then what Jimmer offers.
We've already talked about this somewhere. He was clearly gassed, and it appears that it was an exhaustion workout, where they had him shoot his jumpshot after tiring him out in some way. He wasn't lackadaisical, he just had nothing left.
Ok guys, what's up next for Kings workouts!? Draft is only 10 days away
We should also start hearing about guys being asked back for a second workout too.
Kawhi Leonard is scheduled to come in on this friday, june 17th. So far, I know on no one else joining him.
Today they announced that the workout will be Leonard, Hopson, Liggins, Kalin Lucas, Mickey McConnell and Jamine Peterson.

I like that we're bringing in Liggins - I think he has the chance to be a very good defensive player and wouldn't be a bad risk at #35.
A less athletic John Stockton?
There are many, many positive attributes to John Stockton. Among them, the gravitas to wear those shorty-shorts when 99% of the NBA stopped doing it. Athletic, however, is not how I remember him. Unless of course, that is precisely what you meant to say, in which I get the description of McConnell perfectly.
