The Party is Set!!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the salad recipie................... thank you Kennadog!!

I missed the championship gumbo recipie too, leospassn could you post that?

Wanted to share this, meant to get to it yesterday but things were crazy. They had sent out an email offering a group ticket sale for Monarch STHs to attend Tues preseason Kings game against the Nuggets. They had a little reception an hour before the game and had indicated that they'd try to get someone from the Monarchs to come as well. Well, that someone happened to be Ruthie. It was a small group so you actually could have a conversation with Ruthie while she was there. She walked in and happened to stand near the table where I was sitting so I definitely took the opportunity to conversate. They also had the lounge big screen going and it was playing, of all things, game 4 with the local video and radio broadcast feeds....imagine that...and when Ruthie walked in her eyes became glued to the screen as well.

But a couple of things...we were chatting at the viewing party on Sunday about what must have happened in the lockerroom to get the Monarchs to wake up and/or loosen up. So I asked Ruthie what she told them when she went into the lockerroom at halftime. She said she told them to settle down and relax. They were too close, and they had come too far to let this opportunity slip away because of nervousness. She said she later went to each of the younger players and talked with them individually. She said she didn't say anything special, just that. I told her, well...it sure worked, they came out for the 2nd half and lit it up. The replay of the 2nd half started and when Nicole hit the 3 that started their run, Ruthie got excited all over again.

The house video feed FINALLY allowed me to see what the heck happened between Ticha and Lindsay Whalen when that foul was called. The audio also was entertaining because it picked up the off-air conversations between Koz and Krista during the commercials. Those two were very much into the enormity of the game and were struggling as much as we were getting through that 1st half. "Candid" would make it sound racey, but they were having conversations that had to be similar to the conversations we all had in our seats.

I also had the opportunity to chat with my rep as well, re: what they are working on to celebrate the championship. If they pull off a 5th of the things he said they've been tossing around as ideas - next year is going to be very very fun and the memorabilia pretty special. They are considering among other things a DVD. He also pointed out that they've put up the first banner over the entrance we usually use to head through the security gate. "Welcome to ARCO Arena Home of the 2005 World Champion Sacramento Monarchs" I can't remember if he said those are going up over all of the entrance arches. But I remember exiting the gate and seeing it in my rear-view mirror and thinking .... "wow...they ARE going to town on this". They are also considering ways to get Monarchs fans involved with the House Party Live during the Kings season. So they are working on that.

Ruthie also talked about finishing up coaching a local girls AAU team and getting ready for her college coaching season, and that her home opener at Jessup was 11/19. She's really excited about her team this year, so I think that's another prime opportunity for us to make a trek to bring the ARCO thunder on the road. She's going to some how pass along her team's home schedule so it gets distributed to fans through MS&E....but I'm sure we can locate it and post it here as well if that doesn't happen.

She's also still working on putting together that women's fitness day she had talked about in one of her addresses to fans over the summer.

And finally, I can attest to the fact that Chantelle Anderson is indeed currently in Sacramento. I was wandering around the concourse at halftime Tuesday night, and ended up standing next to LaSalle Thompson as had come down the stairs from whereever he had been so he could dial someone up on his cell phone. He later crossed to the opposite side of the concourse from where I was standing and some REALLY tall woman came walking by in front of him and I thought geewhiz she's tall. It took me a minute to realize who she was because she was not on the list of people I expected to see milling around the concourse.

STH offers

You mintioned that you knew of the offer to STH. How come I never get those? Yes, I put my email on everything, yes I told my rep, several times, but I never hear of those special events...

Thanks for the recipe!

For the chocolate brownies, I used the Hershey'sTripple Chocolate mix from Sam's Club, but baked them in the miniature muffin pans (use papers - makes it much easier to get them out) for 20 to 25 minutes. Pop in a toasted almond.

Monarchs Championship Jambalaya

Sure I'll share this simple recipe...well, it's not really a recipe, it's a an easy boxed mix, just add your own meat. We discovered this is a hearty, one-pot camping meal last summer; it smells so good cooking outside!! With a little hot sauce, it warms you right up around the campfire.

Buy an 8 oz. box of "Zatarain's New Orleans Style Jambalaya Mix" (red & white box) in the rice section at the supermarket. Buy one pound of uncooked, cleaned and peeled shrimp, (or clean and peel them yourself) and one 14 oz. Hillshire Smoked Sausage. Slice up the sausage into 1/4" rounds. Other meat options are pre-cooked chicken or ham, cut into bite sized cubes. The directions call for 1 pound of meat, but it's better if you have more, especially if you plan to stretch the recipe with additional rice.

Here are directions straight off the box:

1. In a 2-1/2 quart saucepan, combine 2-1/2 cups water, 2 tablespoons vegetable oil and bring to a boil.
2. Add Zatarain's Jambalaya Mix and meat (sausage--wait on the shrimp because they cook quickly), return mixture to a boil.
3. Reduce heat, stir, cover and simmer over low heat for 25 minutes (add shrimp during the final 10 minutes of cooking).
4. Remove from heat, let stand 5 minutes, fluff and serve (or transfer to crockpot for transport).

Additional notes:
5. To easily stretch the recipe (as for a large group of hungry Monarchs fans), add one 2-cup bag of Uncle Ben's boil in a bag rice and stir in well.
6. Add 3 dashes of Tobasco to spice it up (more or less as you prefer).

That's it, easy and quick!

Hey kennadog!

Thanks for the bean salad recipe, but I do have a question.

I'd swear that you used a balsamic italian dressing, did you?

I make a similiar salad using italian dressing and actually make it from a package of zesty italian mixed with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, not to mention a couple cloves of fresh minced garlic.

Needless to say, your salad was incredible! Thanks again.

Angela

(still stunned that the brownies were from a box!)

"They are also considering ways to get Monarchs fans involved with the House Party Live during the Kings season. So they are working on that. "

I got an invitation to join the house party last Saturday, problem was, I didn't actually receive the invitation in time to attend. (I've contacted my STH rep, hopefully that will be resolved)

Anyway......when you DO receive an invitation, you're able to bring guests....how many, I don't know. But I'll put a shout out to everyone here to post when you receive an invitation, so we can all at least get a shot to represent.

If you haven't received an invite email, just give it time. They can't invite everyone to each and every event. I think they go throught the mailing list starting with the A's (And I happen to be "B")

By the way, I've asked to be "put back in the hopper" for another time

Good idea about returning to the hopper, I received my email about a day after the event had happened because I was out of town late last week. I'da been there in a minute if I had known about it.

I too am stunned that the brownies came from a box ANNNNNNNNNNNNNND....there's gonna be some jambalaya going on in my house this weekend or sooner and that salad.

Well, where is my invite? :p

I did make to the House Party Live show. You can invite 1 guest. Yo came to the event & was interviewed by LaSall Thompson & Scott Marsh. They also put on a post up clinic. They served pizza & soda. Yo posed for photo's & signed autographs for fans. The event takes place untill tip off. Then they let you watch the taped telecast. It was fun. They will be doing more throughout the season. A Monarchs event would be great!

Did the Jambalaya this weekend...primo....you're right...the smell when it's cooking is awesome.

Will attempt the salad next weekend and make the brownies to take to where I'm heading for Thanksg'vng.

No, I don't think it was balsamic based, but at the moment, honestly can't remember which bottled brand I used. Sorry.:o

My bad.....it couldn't be balsamic, that would clash with the chili powder!

I made it a couple weeks ago with a zesty italian and it was awesome!
