The Kings turned attention toward Memphis' Bonzi Wells.

personally i still think jason kidd is better than either of them....he can run any team with his passing and decision-making....but more importantly he destroys Nash and Bibby defensively...it seems more and more people are forgetting Kidd in all the Nash mvp madness...although Nash has received the most attention this year, people shouldn't forget that Kidd was also an MVP candidate when he turned around the Nets a few years ago (he got robbed by Duncan)....plus is there a better rebounding point gaurd or a more consistent triple-double threat in the league today
This was a discussion about Nash and Bibby. I do agree that Kidd is better than either of the 2. Kidd is better defensively but the other 2 are more consistent offensively. Kidd still has a shaky jumper after so many years in the league.

People went to sleep on Kidd because he missed so much time at the start of the season. By April of '06, people will be back to realizing he's the best point guard in the NBA and one of the few who can get it done on both ends of the floor.

We'll see -- remember that Jason had the same knee surgery as Webber did, and even down the stretch was not himself defensively etc. May never be again at his age.

he would still be better than both nash and bibby defensively, the only pg worse on the defensive end than bibby and nash is derek fisher....

and honestly, if miller and peja could/would dunk the ball... im sure bibby would be better at running the team if he knew that tossing them the ball was a sure thing.... amare has no range but can dunk on just about anyone...

Since Mobley is walking out on us and we aren't likely to get anything for him, would we be using our trade exceptions as part of the deal to get Wells.

Around draft time there were plenty of reports about Memphis cutting back costs and salaries and were shopping their pick around the league. One of the articles in Memphis papers said that Grizzlies were prepared to sell the pick for around $3million. Since they are trying to cut salaries would those exceptions come in handy when ti comes to trade being struck??????

Had we used Mobley in sign and trade I don't think we would have used those trade exceptions but not that he is walking, I think those exceptions give us a bit more to work with.

I just don't see any way of getting Brand, without giving up two of our core players, even if Donal Sterling is a moron.

I don;t think Brand is a superstar of the two core guy level. Don't think he is a superstar at all. He's worth more than any one of our core players, but not worth two. 1 core guy and candy (players or picks) would be the fair offer. But not sure why the Clips would rather have any of our guys than Elton.

I agree. I think the jury is still out on whether Kidd will ever be the player he was. The surgery has slowed him down, but add the natural aging process and his chances of returning to his previous form are pretty slim. He may be an excellent PG, but just not what he was, especially on the defensive end of the floor.

Maybe I missed something in all these threads, but I saw nothing about Mobley "walking out on us." There is still time for a sign and trade to appear on the horizon. I am still counting on Geoff to work his magic. :)

Memphis radio is reporting that the Rockets are out of the running for Sto Swift. Whether that's true or not remains to be seen, but if it is then it may just open things up for a trade for Bonzi and Stro. However, the way things are going lately the Clippers will catch wind of this and make offers for them as well.

I think there is more chance of Swift ending up in NJ than here.

I read somewhere on the net (can't quite remember where  ) that NJ wants to trade their trade exception and 2nd round pick to Blazers for SAR but Portland wants 1st round pick which NJ doesn't want to give up. In that article it stated that NJ isn't overly keen on giving MLE for SAR because they want to use it to sign other free agents to address their needs.

IMHO, Nets are front runners for Swift and SAR is liekly to end up somewhere else. Just my opinion.

Swift and Wells for B Jackson, Williamson and O-tag

with the options quickly diminishing for the kings... i hope petrie is on the phone to memphis... this trade works out for everybody...

memphis has been looking to trade wells and get something back for swift... with earl watson a free agent and jwill on the trading block, they are looking for a veteran pg.... o-tag will fill the void left by swift in the center rotation and he only has one year left on his contract and williamson will help back up the Pf spot behind gasol....

the kings needs some physical/defnsive presence in the starting line up.. and swift gives the kings an athletic shot blocker and rebounder.. the kings also need a starting big gurad who can body up to the ray allens and kobe bryants of the west... plus he will be a free agent after this year, so the kings can cut him lose if and when garcia or martin is ready to start...

the kings will then need to sign a backup pg, such as eddie house or gary payton... resign songaila and move thomas to back up Peja and Swift

Kings lineup:

PF SWIFT / Songaila
SF STOJAKOVIC/ Thomas
C MILLER / Skinner
SG WELLS/ Martin / Garcia
PG BIBBY/ House (or Payton)

I am not overly sold on Swift. Yes he is atheltic and blocks shots (both of what we need) BUT he is ordinary defender, poor rebounder and is undersized for a PF and C positions. He has a game thats not overly polished, and his basketball IQ is almost non-existant. I just can't see GP being interested in him as our starting PF. He just wouldn't be a good overall fit for this team IMHO.

OTOH, I would do a trade for Bonzi. I would also do a trade for Swift but only as a back up. He is not someone I would rely on to be a starter on this team.
