The Kings are showing Interest in?

I thought Weaver would be a fine pickup this summer, and would still be on board. Has the right skills to fit in here, especially next to Evans, but of course he's only a role player and adding him would be simply rearranging a deck chair on our sinking ship.

Well he is a good perimeter defender and a good offensive weapon. So the role he would be filling is pretty big. considering Head is our defensive role player and Beno our offensive role player. Problem is both can't play at the same position at the same time. Weaver seems to be both rolled into 1 only bigger. I'd like to see how he creates for others before totally jumping on the bandwagon. But then again Beno isn't really a jugernaut at setting others up.

If this 6'-6 guy can defend, rebound, dribble, pass, shoot and on top of that is unselfish and a team player as he's described, he's NOT a scrub and the Kings need to sigh him yesterday. Holly molly, there are less then ten guys in the entire world who fit those descriptions.

Watched this guy all through college, and a good amount when he was on the Thunder. He can play very good defense, his main shortfall was his shooting, but if he really has improved his shot (scoring with numbers like the article states tells me that he has improved shooting), then I think there probably isn't a better available player to fill out our extra roster spot with.

I have been a fan of K. Weaver since the year he was drafted. I thought he would be a guy who needed some time to develop, but could eventually become a very good combo guard. I beleive he played PG in college. I wanted the Kings to sign him when he was cut from OKC. He rebounds and defends well for his position and his 3pt. and ft%'s are pretty decent.

ok and why haven't we signed him yet??

Almost habe to wonder that myself -- wouldn't cost us anythig, and we already cleared the roster spot wiht Wright. I guess on the other hand as of right now there are no minutes for him, and he'd probably be practice squadded, so why waste a 10 day on that?

Wondered the same as you. I think we should roll the dice. We have an extra roster spot. Worst case we grab him, get a look for the rest of the season and let him go this summer. But in this league, you need to be a week too early and not a week too late. Really don't see the downside to giving him a chance.

with the way PW juggles the lineup this guy might be starting after a few games lol. we have nothing to lose. it isn't like theres any consistency with our roster anyway.

I don't think teams are allowed to sign D-League players yet. Not until sometime around the new year I think. That's what happened a few years ago with Kelenna Azubuike and Justin Williams at least.

You could be right. I'll have to go look that up, unless the Capt beats me to it. I liked Weaver in college, and as stated earlier, his only real downside was his outside shot. He seems to have improved that. He's a good athlete, and has very good size for the position. I don't see how picking him up would hurt.

You know what bugs me about the D-league? When NBA teams pick up players the team suffers. Imagine if the NBA were a development league to something bigger, and one day the ... Heavenly Honchos call up Kobe and Gasol for 10 day contracts and then sign them. Bye bye Lakers!

I know -- same thing as MLB's minors. If you do get lucky enough to have a star in town, and he is carrying the team to victories, chances are he's going to get stolen from you midseason. After Sacramento gets done chasing the Kings from town maybe they'll be lucky enough to get awarded a D-League team so they can watch that dynamic themselves.

Ha, tell that to teams like Cleveland & Toronto. The NBA is already 1/2 way there. Wait? This players a star, time for a big market. Thanks for grooming him though.

Good point. Only they have yet to do it midseason. Like the article said Weaver's team was number 1 or something? I was thinking once they take him out their record is probably gonna be affected

Well if you're also an A's fan that's not a problem, they just get promoted to the big leagues. It's all the same "team". Of course if you're a Giants fan that's something else entirely.

I really liked Weaver in college -- that was the period when I followed college basketball the closest and being in the Pac 10 I got to see Weaver play a lot. He's a good team player first of all. Does a little bit of everything but contributes best with his court awareness and basketball IQ. He looked pretty good on OKC last year but I guess with Sefalosha already covering basically the same role and then Harden coming in he was expendable. He'd be a nice addition for us I think, although he's somewhat redundant with Garcia and Head.

Im about 90% sure you cant give out 10 day contracts yet. There is a date I cant remember. If we sign him now it would have to be for the whole season.

That being said, Im not sure we have room for him. And I like him, but he would be eating up minutes from players with long term deals we cant afford to have rot on the bench. Cisco and Beno are two of our only long term deals. It wouldnt make sense on the business side to have Weaver come here and play big minutes, even though I cant say for sure that he isnt better than both players.

Well I think the point would be, that we pretty much know what we have with both Beno and Cisco. I don't see a huge improvement coming our way with either player. Thats not a knock on either of them. But its possible that he could end up being better than both of them. And with Beno being a PG, it would mostly be Cisco's minutes that would affected. He's definitely a better athlete than Cisco. Someone is going to snatch him up. So it might as well be us..
