"Hey guys, just wanted to call this conference to let you know I got a new Podium :)"

In all seriousness though it seemed as though he had something else he was originally going to talk about but decided to hold off last minute. It felt a bit rushed. Now I dont think this is a bad thing but Im curious what the big announcement would have been.

I'm thinking Friday might reveal something more, as far as 'whales' are concerned. Not sure if he has an agenda for tomorrow or not, possibly a reschedule of what was supposed to be announced today...I'll keep everyone posted if I hear anything.

We took a heavy punch to the stomach on Sunday.

Maybe the purpose of these conferences is to get us out of the dumps and back on the "Sacramento has a chance" track.

good sign

Yeah but I'd like there to be less hints at fair/competitive/close, though I understand the reason for the non-committal language. I just hope they realize they need to go in with a deal that is as good or better (depending on how all the Seattle details work) than Hansen/Ballmer. There is no way the BOG denies a deal for a worse offer.

I will say this much, from what I heard...today's presser was SUPPOSED to be something more.

The whale is a KF.com forum member. Don't know what else could be more important.

Let's not overthink, folks.

I hope this ISN'T the case, and if the NBA wants the team to remain it will overlook the fact if we can't match Seattle's numbers exactly - although hopefully we can

I just can't picture desirable owners in a desirable city with a better offer being denied a team (unless there was an expansion team coming but that doesn't seem likely).

There is a way to avoid the court drama and reach a situation where everybody is somewhat happy... League approves the sale of the franchise to Seattle to honor the existing agreement, while immediately granting Sacramento an expansion franchise to the Burkle group (cheaper than 525M!), contingent on the arena deal being signed and with a stipulation that the city loan is repaid in full and the Kings are allowed to lease STA for the next 3 years wihle the new arena is build. Sacramento keeps the Kings name and history; Seattle reinstates the Sonics, NBA pumps up the value of the franchises (via Kings sale and higher expansion franchise fee), Maloofs are banned from the NBA.

Sure, it sucks loosing DMC and some of the other fan favorites, but we get a clean slate, lottery pick(s?), plenty of cap space and some experienced players via an expansion draft. And, to be honest, a clean slate wouldn't hurt, seeing what a mess this team is in at the moment.

This may be the most feasible ending to all this.

Oh, h*** no. We just need new ownership and a new coach. Our owners have no money and have been living cheap for way too long. Maybe GM too? A new arena in a couple years, too? Sign me up. But I do not want to lose this team and get an expansion.

No. Sacramento shall have its cake and eat it to. The league isnt going to fold under the pressure of lawsuits from former scumbag owners or potential buyers.

Indeed, that would be wonderful. Essentially the forced trading of the best center of his generation, followed by the "reward" of a brand new expansion franchise sure ot not reach for the playoffs for another 5 years, making it a good dozen at least until you get back.

I'll allow you to ferret out the asterisks, but how about **** THAT!

THESE are the Kings. THIs is our team. Seatttle already lost theirs. The damage is done there. Let them get the expansion.

ya i think its all going to depend on how his phone call with David Stern goes tomorrow

exactly. the fact that people are even mentioning Seattle taking our team and we will just hope to build an Arena and get an expansion team, is pissing me off

Let Seattle get a stinky expansion team.

Lets keep the squad with Reke and Cousins thank you very much.

All I'm saying is... it may come to this. It sure beats losing the Kings forever...

I agree with you, but one of the problems is they probably don't know all the details of the Hansen/Maloof deal. So about all he can do now is make somewhat vague statements about what our offer might be

this kind of talk is annoying me. almost like people are beginning to plan on the BOG allowing the Seattle move

Carmichael Dave ‏@CarmichaelDave
Way way WAY ahead, but for the record: if they told me now I could walk away with an expansion team downtown in 2 years, I'd take the deal.

It would seem weird to approve the sale then give Sac an expansion team. We have turn out and a history/connection. Why not save Hanson some money and promises THEM the expansion team? Gives them time to build the new arena, save him money and saves Sac's team. The only bad part is watching the Maloofs pocket 30 mill on top of the inflated sale price but hell I gave my ex-wife several thousand above what she was entitled to just to get her out of my life faster, with no hassle
.

He just read my post and thinks it makes sense ;-) ....

But seriously, if this is the "worse" outcome, I think we come out of it in a really good situation... Great owners with a lower investment in a team that is NOT in debt (which makes them even more willing to spend), new arena, re-energized fanbase... Sure, lots of growing pains but it beats losing the team forever!

If we match Hansen's offer, then there's simply no logic to what you suggested. If there's to be an expansion team, it would make more sense all the way around to give that expansion team to Seattle. Hansen gets a team for less money, and doesn't have to pay any relocation costs. Sacramento gets to keep its team and gets a new arena. David Stern gets to retire happy, knowing that he's righted a couple of wrongs, and that he's gotten rid of a few cockroachs that could possibly carry a desease that might infect other owners.

Why not save Hanson some money and promises THEM the expansion team? .

Because they already have a binding, signed sale and purchase agreement and have put down a non-refundable $30 million dollars deposit. Very risky of them to do, but a great way to pin down the Maloofs and come to the BOG with a very solid stance.

Between two entities offering the same thing (new arena, new ownership, great city and fanbase), the ones holding the binding contract have a huge advantage.

My ferret came up with ****. Am I correct?

Getting an expansion franchise is no dream scenario. Besides losing Boogie, I believe the money cap is lower on expansion franchises and they start out deep in a hole with little chance of making the playoffs even with the best of FOs and ownership. A scenario that I think people would hope for is that an expansion franchise would get the first draft pick but that's not what happens. Anyway, this is working out far better than I thought would happen and to settle for anything less than maintaining the Kings right here in River City sans the parties that have held us back for years. If I can be so bold as to mention the name Burkle, his Penguins won the Stanley Cup. That's pretty good.

Sure, if Hansen is cool with that, then that's the way to go. His willingness to overpay AND put down a non-refundable $30M deposit would indicate otherwise.
