Thank you, Chris Webber...

I've had to edit a couple of posts. As a reminder, please keep your comments about the topic. We don't need nor do we condone personal sniping at or between members.

Thank you.

He did a little shake n bake and got the defender out of position then stepped back and took the shot. He left the arm in the air without any doubt that it was going in. It was beautiful.
The show-boating I was reffering to

Chris has had a somewhat awkward looking gait since his days at Michigan.
According to Eric Neel, ESPN.com 10/28/03, Twenty Reasons the NBA is Fan-tastic:

"16. The awkward grace of Paul Pierce and the graceful awkwardness of Chris Webber."

It's his trademark.

allrightythen - So now Webber isn't even allowed to show expression over a good shot?

apparently not..

Its called ''goose neck'' its when you let your hand hang after you shoot. I've seen almost every player who shoots a jumper do it at least once.

could you remind me what he did to show boat.. did he happen to dance like a crab ;)
Now I have an image in my head of Webb doing the Bibby dance.

That's just wrong. Very, very wrong.

Oh he can, it just doesn't make me like him or respect him anymore, nor, IMO, does it bring others to do the same. Thats pretty much part of the game at this point, its just not something to get up or down about.

Please. I even hold my hand up like that when I'm just practicing jumpers at home. It's natural to do that, you're trying to will the ball into the hoop. Golfers keep their drivers up after the swing, bowlers hold that ice skating position.

There are plenty of genuine reasons to not be a Webb fan, dissing him for following through on a game-clinching shot is... OK, I don't want to get edited... it don't make no sense. ;)

Other players doing it doesn't mean its not show-boating, it simply means its accepted. I'll admit that when I call it show-boating I'm nit-picking, but I still don't think its something to applaud the guy for.

Look, I said it doesn't make me like him any more. That is definitely not the beef I have with the guy and I would have to be quite anal if that was a real reason I didn't like the guy. again, I just read it as a reason he was being defended and thought it was silly.

ouch.. apparently, if you're webb, you can't follow through on your shots cause it's showboating when you do it, and not when bibby, peja, doug, etc. does it..

webb, don't follow through on your shots! it's better to miss it than to follow through! ;)

What are you talking about? Would you be making the comment if it was Tim Duncan? Or Mark Madsen? Or any player NOT named Chris Webber?

There are things, of course, that people can find to criticize about Chris Webber but saying he shouldn't be able to follow through on a shot is about the furthest stretch I've ever seen...

We don't care about why you don't like Chris Webber. That's completely up to you. What we do care about is when Webber pretty much saves a game for us and someone - in this case, you - tries to make it sound as if it's a bad thing.

Dude, he just had his arm in the air.

This is a game, and its these players lives we must remember that. There are emotions that are put in to this so its only natural to expect players to display them. Celebrating when things go well, getting upset when there is a bad call. There is however, a fine line between celebrating and show boating. Hit a game winning shot, then its usually ok to celebrate, hitting a shot when you are up by 30 or in a meaningless game or time in the game is usually show boating and not well accepted.

Webber did have a great game, and as someone who doesn't like Webber its very easy to admit that. That doesn't make me like him any more. I never thought he was afraid of the big shot, I don't think that has ever been a knock on him. Show-boating after making a shot especially doesn't make me like him either.

thats 1, where are all the other boo birds? come out and chirp!!!

Yes, Webber saved the game and had every right to have his hand in the air, but why do I have to like him for having his hand in the air. Thats what I read in the original post and that is what I was questioning. Everybody does it, whether I want them to or not, I already said that its nit-picking to call it show-boating, but If you are going to address the group called "webber haterz" and the continue to give reasons to give him credit, raising his hand in the air because he made a shot is not a reason to give him credit. So I won't. He had a great game and was our MVP by far, and has played pretty darn good so far in the rest of the games as well, but I am not going to get excited about him raising his hand in the air as was stated in that earlier post.

It doesn't matter who does it, I don't think its any reason to like a person
When did I say he couldn't do it?

(The term "webber haterz" isn't acceptable around here and has, in fact, been deleted. AND I wasn't the one who used it, BTW.)

I started this thread to say thanks to a Kings player for a job well done. If you want to focus on one nano-second of action, feel free to do so.

Sorry, I lost focus and sabotaged your whole thread. My bad. Webber was the biggest reason we won tonight. Amen

On Jordan's game winner VS the Jazz in the NBS Finals he held his arm up as well. Who cares? Webb played big tonight. It just shows that a player knows he hit his shot. Sheesh!

Actually, you're quite wrong, you're encourage to hang your hand like that when you shoot. My basketball coach used to tell me to do the same thing. It's follow through as Slim has said earlier. It has nothing to do with showboating.

Oh come on now -- while you are of course correct that its proper form, when you leave it hanging for a couple of seconds of course its showboating. Not as if anybody does that on every shot. Think Larry Bird pioneered that one, and he DEFINITELY wanted you to know it was going in and there was nothing you could do about it.

But its just about the least of all showboating moves, and probably a good sign when you see it hanging -- shooter has to have confidence in himself and his shot.
