Terrence Williams Works out for Kings Again

Loved the way twill passed the ball last time he was here.

I still want Nik to get his minutes though so that's a worry.

Ben can sit at the end of the bench as far as I'm concerned.

It would be rather sad if at the end of the day we were better off signing a guy who's barely been able to stay in the league than drafting one or two of our top 10 picks.

People are seriously underestimating his off-the court issues and are acting like he's dwayne Wade talent and just needs a chance to prove himself. In reality, the guy was bad in his NBA stint with his only minor success coming with us for 20 games. Teams are willing to put up with ALOT if they think a guy is talented and might be able to help them win games (see: Beasley, Michael). It's extremely telling that no one's taken a flier in a few years on this "talented" player.\

We have the security blanket set in place if Nik and Ben both fail with Sessions small ball and Casspi big-ball having the ability to fill in at SG. T-Will isn't a needed piece.

I don't see anyone calling him Dwyane Wade, more that he has skills at the SG position we don't currently have.

I believe in Terrence Williams. He's an NBA player. I never really doubted that. Other things always seem to get in the way.

It's odd that we haven't just signed him already if that was the plan. I mean, the whole thing is strange. Why wasn't he in camp? why didn't he play in the summer? etc.

Maybe this is just trade insurance. That makes a lot of sense to me. The truth is, we could trade Ben tomorrow, pick up Williams, and probably be a better team for it. Sad but true.

T-Will can play, and he would immediately become our best defender. I think that's a piece we do need.
As for his head, if you can't tell me some BAD he's done in recent years, then all you're saying is that you don't want him because no one else wants him.

I agree, but thing is the dude is/was a knuckle-head and IF he can't leave that rap behind him and move FORWARD with the Kings we defiantly do NOT need the distraction, he just does does not bring that much to the table that you can let him negatively impact the team.

I'm guessing he wasn't in camp because they were looking to see if Ben made any improvements during preseason. Looks like Ben is still Ben. About every 8 games he gives you 20 points while the other 7 games he's absolutely useless. No rebounds, no assists, no defense, no shooting and no scoring.

If there's one thing we know TWill can do, that's fill up the stat sheet from start to finish. He's going to rebound, distribute the ball, play defense and score around the basket. There's only two knocks on the man. He still hasn't developed a consistent 3 point shot and the fact that he's crazy.

Maybe we need the distraction to jolt us in a positive direction. After all we have back ups and can bench him any time we want.

His shot from distance looked solid last year in the D-League. I think he's much improved with it

I agree that is true. Let Stauskas start and have a solid all around backup in T-Will. Immediate better team.

If he falls of the rails, get rid of him. Simple as that

Shows how desperate the Kings are at this point. (The reality of guarding the GSW guards and the Portland guards in their first two games might have entered their minds). They can get the sweats from playing the guards on their current roster, or a take a flyer on a nut case. Pick 'em.

ben has had plenty of mins. Sorry this ain't the semipro league gotta outplay journeymen.

I don't think that Stauskas has had plenty of time. And in the little time he has had, he's played well. Right this moment, Williams is the flavor of the week. A couple of weeks from now, someone else will be. Its the nature of fans, and don't get me wrong, I like Williams, but he has had problems. There's a reason that a player with his talent is still looking for a job. What amazes me the most, is how people are ready to bench, or ship out players, and we haven't played real game yet.

Um, I said Ben not Nik. I like Nik he will get min w or w/o Twill. And no Twill isn't my flavor of the week. I would have taken him the last two seasons.

Ben is no where near starting quality at this point. Would u argue otherwise?

Gonna Shock The World Very Soon...... Lol

I really hope we're signing this guy. He literally does everything better than Ben other than alley oops. Our D will be much improved, our ball handling will be improved, our assists will go up, our rebounding will get even better and our outside shooting should at least be somewhat more consistent even if he's not knocking on 40% from the arc.

He doesn't shoot the three ball better than Ben, which is pretty alarming, and his career FG% is only very slightly better than Bens.

I agree though he is a far more competent all around player.

We should really sign this guy, a cheap bandage before we consider trade options. Solid IQ, solid defender, good athlete, would probably be as good a shooter as Ben. Also a much better ball handler.

I can only imagine the internal conflicts the front office would have over signing Williams.if you're committed to developing your most recent first round draft picks, then Williams is only going to delay your progress. But if you're committed to winning this year, then Williams would give you a better chance. But it's not likely that Nick and Ben will both thrive with Williams getting most of the minutes at shooting guard.

I wonder if we'll sign him,...then immediately assign him to Reno to get some flow and feel going?

If we sign another player would we be able to bring Moreland back up from the D league? I wouldn't want to trap him there.

I think we should take another chance on TWill. He played good for us during the last stint and we could use some help at the SG position right now. Should be a low risk move. He'll come cheap and if he causes any problems we cut him, no big deal.

If we sign another player would we be able to bring Moreland back up from the D league? I wouldn't want to trap him there.

We currently have 14 players on the NBA roster, including Moreland, who has been assigned to the D-League. We have one open roster spot and thus can sign one additional player. Filling that roster spot has no effect on Moreland - he is not required to stay at the D-League level based on our roster size, or anything else. We can call him up to the pro bench at any time we like, and if experience serves as a guide we likely will shuffle him back and forth from Reno to Sacramento several times this year. Often in the past those shufflings seemed to correspond to times when the Kings have a lot of time to go through practices in Sacramento - as if they're telling the player that they're going to play with the D-League while we go on a long road trip, then when we come home for a homestand, come on back and practice with the big boys, get your feet wet.

We are only allowed to have 13 players on the Active List, which are the players who are eligible to play in each game, so signing another player would make it a bit less likely that Moreland would find his way onto the active list anytime soon - instead of one injury we'd have to suffer two to bring him onto the active list unless he jumps somebody on the depth chart.

I like Moreland's potential, but I suspect he's not anywhere near ready to contribute right now. I have doubts that he'll be ready to contribute by the end of this season, but we'll see. We signed him to a three-year deal because we saw the potential for him to grow into something, and we wanted to develop that potential, but this year may not be in the cards, especially if our games in April are meaningful.

I thought we could send only one off our payroll to Reno.

I haven't heard of that restriction, and on a cursory look I don't see anything that says we can only send one.

However, Williams has four seasons of NBA service, so we can't automatically send him down - we would need both player and player's union consent to do that. My guess is that Williams would not agree to being sent down - I think he's got enough confidence in his basketball abilities that he'd prefer to jump right back in at the NBA level (and I think he'd probably be fine, as long as he's in shape).

Exactly. But the other part of this is that besides Moreland (who will either be in Reno or with the Kings but inactive) there would have to be another player on the current roster designated as inactive each night. If Williams were signed he'd likely be that guy initially as he worked his way into the lineup but if he showed enough to be activated for games another player would have to be inactive each night. Barring injury that means somebody (McCallum? Stauskas? McLemore? Evans? Hollins?) would have to be made inactive.

I'm confused with the D-League coaching. If the D-League is for your players to hone their skills and to keep an eye on potential diamonds in the rough, wouldn't you want them running the exact same scheme as the Kings? That way if someone gets called up they already know all the basics and can hit the ground running.

loved him the 1st time around. wasn't sure why he wasn't kept.. could he have been the match that would detonate our already fragile locker room. who knows.

he'd definitely fit in the positionless crap the FO keeps spouting about. versatile, handle the rock, big enough to defend multiple positions and be a mismatch on the offensive end.

only issue is this will delay our development of the young 2's. i like stauskas but he's gonna go through growing pains.. ben, he's a long ways away from becoming a real starter.

if we do sign him, i can see them looking to ship out the new pizza guy by the deadline.
