Strong indications Kings may be in Sacramento next year

How can you predict how a team will perform when you don't know who is on the team?

Well, I looking at the players they have, the draft class, and the odds of the Kings getting an impact freeagents ... but that didn't have anything to do with my point.

Unless they are a clear title favorite, I can predict how a fanbase would respond to owners with money issues keeping the payroll low with the prospect of a billionare wanting to take over. That's a problem anywhere, but when you slash payroll and promise to spend ... that's a problem. A big one.

Sorry if you missed the point.

You are saying this despite the fact that the Maloofs have said they would spend money on free agents. They would be fools if they didn't make a major upgrade at the SF spot. If they don't, they can go to Anaheim with my blessings.
Screw that. If they don't, then get rid of their sorry butts and get some real owners up in this mofo!

They also said they wanted to make Sacramento work long term.

You can't spend money you don't have.

... with the Hornets.

No, you missed my point. You are assuming the Maloofs will spend no money on free agents. That's an incredible assumption. There once was a time when the Maloofs weren't hated and in that time, about 4 months ago, they promised to spend major money this summer. What has changed other than YOUR opinion of the Maloofs assuming there has ever been a change, of course?

They slashed payroll to get great draft picks and amazingly got great draft picks. Now in the rebuild it is time to make a major upgrade at one position.

How do you know the odds of getting a free agent? The team now has major money available to sign anyone they want. That's partly the effect of slashing pay roll. Now they have money. There are 4 SFs available. Why do you think none will sign? You are making a major case based on assumptions of the worst case scenario while at the same time, people who have continued to discuss basketball on this forum are seeing this year as the great turn around year. Look at how the team played at the end of the year and compare it with the beginning of the year.

I'm sorry but I think you are giving to much credit to the integrity of the maloofs. They obviously planned to be in Anaheim this summer. With that possiblity out of the picture, I would not be suprised if they sit on their hands.

"Cap space" and "money" are not the same thing.

The once was a time the Maloofs spent, because there once was a time when the Maloofs had money.

Even if they spent some "money" but were in the lower 1/2 of the league for payroll, my point holds.

From the Bee.

Earlier, Johnson and the NBA representatives met at the state Capitol in Sen. President Darrell Steinberg's office in a meeting that included City Councilman Rob Fong, West Sacramento Mayor Chris Cabaldon, Sacramento County Supervisor Phil Serna and Yolo County Supervisor Don Saylor.

The writing is on the wall here. KJ wants everybody to help, but Sacramento is looking to partner up with West Sacramento and their respective counties. Considering the rail yards arena would drive development in the rail yards and West Sacramento’s river front, it’s a good deal for all four. I’m pretty sure Cabaldon wants the intermodal transit station to have a street car into his town.

Of course the downside is that you need 4 government entities to finish a sprint to the end, where no single entity has made any headway.

However, this appears to be the framework of where they go from here. It hasn't been attempted before, so its new. And that would matter to the NBA.
I am guessing you mean it hasn't been done here? There are other arenas and stadia around the country that have been built by different jurisdications joining together.

Yeah on the news last night they asked a couple of the politicos from other areas about this and they gave pretty non-commital answer. Sounded sort of sounded like, "We want the Kings here, but we may not provide any money." We'll see, though. The latest developments and so many regional/state representatives showing up for the meetings is great news. Congrats KJ!

As recently as this winter they promised to not only spend money, but to spend "all of it" (referring to their cap room). Now I actually am not sure that is entirely wise given the eventual need to reup the kids, but our salary structure is very strong right now. The year Reke comes up for extension, Cisco and Beno expire. We have a good chance to get Thornton on a Peja-like caught you before you were big contract.

And when I go car or house shopping I tell the sellers that I have the money and will be back. Doesn't mean I intend on making a purchase. They were just saying that to look good. They thought they would be in Anaheim right now where nobody would know or care what they said in December.
