Stan Van Gundy

Starter
His name has appeared in the media as a possible coach right now (whatever that means ) and I think he could do a great job.

Defensive minded - that's what the Maloofs want.

I would hire him. He's on my top list. He turned the Heat into a championship playoff team last season.

I wouldn't mind him. However, any coach with Shaq in the line up would turn them into instant success stories.....that would include Adelman. Im sure with a guy like Shaq 3 or 4 years ago we would be instant champions.

Yeah, last year wasn't really as impresive as the year before. Although looking back on it, Wade, Odom, and Butler really were a nice core.

You could at least bring Stan in and be able to point to soem success he's had. Not at all sure how much of it was really him, but at least he coached a winner for a couple of years.

I think/hope we will get stan. He did a great job with the heat. I know he had a good "team" there but i think he would be good for the kings.

I would be willing to bet the maloofs already know who they are going to hire as a coach. You do not "let go" of a coach like rick with out knowing who you are going to sign. If the maloofs did not know who they were going to sign, they would not release rick. I bet the maloofs already talked to the future kings coach and agreed on something. I feel the kings will name a new coach within the next week or two.

I wouldn't mind Stan Van Gundy actually. He's much better than all of the other candidates that were brought up in all of the previous threads.

Stan Van Gundy would be my pick for the new coach. He is the best available candidate IMHO.

He is defensively oriented, and appears to be able to handle big personalities. I was pretty impressed with what he did with Miami in pre-Shaq days.

Yea! SVG has been my first choice since the beginning. My only concern with him, though, is that he seems to be a bit of a hot-head. That could turn ugly with Ron and Bonzi.

I like him also but that won't happen. He resigned because HE WANTS TO HAVE MORE TIME FOR HIS FAMILY. So, I can't see him coaching the Kings next season. But he would be great.

Not necessarily true. He resigned under extreme pressure from Pat Riley. The "more time for his family" line was quite possibly just the rationale used to keep from airing the Heat dirty linen.

Yep. That's the classic save-face resignation excuse. Didn't Ainge retire from the Suns for the same reason, only to show up as a TV commentator, then GM, mere months later?

I would love to see SVG on the sidelines. He is a good coach that Artest and Bonzi would probably like. Defense is a must with him because he stresses it a lot--thats what the Maloofs want, so go get him already. His family would like it in SacTown at least so no pressure on that particular subject.

Er...minor point of course, but do we know that? Van Gundy's are New York based I think, and then Miami...Stan doesn't exactly impress me as living the Miami Vice lifestyle, but people living in those cities sometimes get very used to the fast pace and bright lights big city.

I think they'd probably like the "dry heat" a lot better in Sacramento than the humidity-filled summers of Miami.

;)

Yeah! And we don't have Hurricanes come roaring through either.

:p

Well he could go to SF and talk to a former Hurricane...

Oh wait. No he can't. Ken Dorsey got traded.

;)

I head on KHTK in the all-star game a a few years back he was miced up and he was yelling at his team for not attacking the glass.

Wonder how he would act to Brad Miller and Brad Miller to defend.

Well it's not like JVG had any reason to STAY in Miami for the summer ;)

i like SVG; i think he got a bum deal in miami this year. in wade's rookie year when they went to the semis with odom and butler, i was really impressed with the way SVG stood up for his team after round one, blasting the media for thinking they couldn't make it. he seems to have a good rapport with his players.

and i think i would like him over brown. brown is very talented, but i can do without all the media games and condescension to the players, thanks.

only problem is (posted by someone here): "he looks like a body odor."

Rumor has it league sources say the Heat will not grant him permission to talk with Sacramento - in fact the Heat declined Stan’s invitation to be an analyst during the playoff broadcasts.

One Heat source said Stan asked for time to spend with his family and left the team – they intend to have Stan honor their agreement.

thats pretty messed up if true

All of a sudden, I just got a lot more interested in Stan Van Gundy... If what ARco ARena has said is true, that's pretty messed up of the Heat.
