SL Kings vs. Lakers Game Thread

I dont think it would be that stupid. what has he done for us in the last 2 years.... might as well get somebody who will create an impact

He was always going to take 2-3 years without injuries. He was never going to be an instant success. One more year at some $750K is not going to be a huge hit for us. Give him one more year where you lock him up in the gym for a year with Clifford Ray and see what comes out of it. If he does not improve significantly by the end of the season, let him go then but a bit premature to cut him after 2 injury and lockout interrupted season.

I think it would be different on a different team and a different situation thought. if we were say the Lakers and we were already a playoff team we could afford to wait a few years for him to get good. but with us being such a lousy team and rumors or Petries job on the line or whatever I think the Kings are thinking we need someone who can be good now and help the team.

Lets put it this way, Whiteside's spot is not a problem here. He is clearly the 5th big on the depth charts and that is exactly where you stash away your project. Cousins, Robinson, JT and Hayes are all clearly in front of him and if we need to bring in shot blocking and rebounding big, it would have to be at the expense of one of those guys (except Cousins) and not your 5th big who generally don't get an the floor for any team in the league regardless of whether they are contending or rebuilding.

Our issues with the bigs is not with the 5th big but with the 2nd to 4th big that are likely to get most of the minutes and none of those guys bring what we need defensively. Your 5th big is not going to impact your results at all because he is not going to play much, if at all.

Most teams don't have the minutes to develop a project most teams need all the wins they can get and most don't have a quarter of garbage time a night. However the teams that are good year after year after year even with turnover will find a way to take their young guys that need work and get them the help and minutes they need to be successful. If you look at us we don't do that. Either you already have it or you fail here there are no successful projects.

If we cut him loose its a failure on him of course but its a failure of our organization. With a body like that the timing to block like that and we couldn't get him to they point he is worth min salary? He looks slower and heavier then he did before he isn't blocking like he used to (remember 5 in his first summer league game and the rest of that summer league no one went inside on him really). How much of that is us just saying bulk up and not giving him the direction he needs. if we need to higher a motivation speaker or buy him a case of energy shots before each game why aren't we doing it?

Its just a symptom of poor state of our management.

I don't even like Gavin anymore. What a fool. Didn't say anything smart that entire interview. 3 mins I'll never get back.

I made use of the three minutes to scoop the crap out of the cat box. Somehow, it just seemed like the appropriate thing to do at the time, you know?

how can you say Akognan[sic] is better than jimmer based off one summer league game. ridiculous...
First of all, not for nothing, but it's two games. Second, at least we know that Akognon can get his shot off against pro level defense. Not NBA-level, of course, but I'm willing to bet it's a cut above anything the WCC has to offer. He also does not appear to have the confidence issues that Fredette is dealing with right now.

That said, I doubt that Akognon is the next Bobby Jackson, and it wouldn't hurt my feelings if I never heard his name again but, seriously? Akognon being a more polished pro, and better guard than Fredette, at least, in the short term, is not nearly the "ridiculous" stretch that you want to think it is.

I agree. The simple fact that we're having our supposed shooting guard bring the ball up and then give it to our PG Jimmer kinda says something doesn't it? Jimmer better get his act together or he's not going to have a very long career in the league. Small guys who can't dribble or defend aren't exactly in high demand, no matter how good their shooting is (which so far in SL has been terrible, but I know better than to say Jimmer can't shoot).

Disregarding what your eyeballs are telling you is more ridiculous. It doesn't take the #1 scout in the world to see that Akognan is a better player.
