Sim update

#31
I nor anyone else is suggesting he's ready for the NBA right now. Simply, this thread was to point out some improvements to Sim's game, particularly with the fact that he's able to play close to 30 MPG now and looks like he's dropped some weight. And considering the last time we saw him with summer league and he couldn't make it up the floor 4 times without looking winded, that's significant progress.

Give him another 5 months to continue working on his body and depending on how he looks in SL, I think he has a chance to make the team next season.

And yes D-League stats don't mean squat most of the time, but:

13.8 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 4 BPG, 75% FG, 28.8 MPG

Can't just disregard that imo

Jamal, no one said you are saying he is NBA ready. I gave a honest take on what I think he needs to do and it's not a knock on his progress in the D-League. Its just the reality of the situation. And basically you are agree that he needs to work on his weight more in order to get to the point where he can see if he is NBA material. I hope he can get to that shape so he can give it a real shot.

I can tell by the way he moves the kid has decent talent and looks like he's got more basketball IQ than a JT or Javalle McGee. The kid thinks fast, but sad to say he cannot move yet as fast as he thinks. Just look at those passes (from video highlights).

Let's hope he plays in the NBA before he even gets injured. This kid is SO BIG and HEAVY you wonder how long it will take for his knees or ankles to give-up.

Well you can tell by the way I move on court
I'm a hefty man: my breath gets short
Big Horns fast and basket high, ran wind sprints 'til I thought I'd die
But now it's all right, it's OK
I'll swat another shot away
We can try to understand
If marketing can make a man

Whether I'm a Bhullar or whether I'm a Mueller
I'll be stayin' in Reno, stayin' in Reno
Watch my team fast breakin' I'll hang back, my lungs achin'
I'll be stayin' in Reno, stayin' in Reno
Ah, ah, ah, ah, stayin' in Reno, stayin' in Reno
Ah, ah, ah, ah, stayin' in REEEEE-EEEEEEE-EEEEEEE-NOOOOO!

We all hope you are wrong and Bhullar come beasting. I, for one Have noticed improvement and am genuinely optimistic. Hey, if nothing else, he gives us a shot at Tanveer Bhullar, his 7'3" younger brother who I heard is much better than Sim already.

  1. I thought that it was fairly obvious that Capt. Factorial was taking advantage of an easy opportunity to parody a song, even though I'm not personally familiar with the song he's parodying, and was not directly taking a shot at Bhullar.
  2. What's all this "we" business?

I'd have recognized it if the music was playing; I'm not familiar with the lyrics in any Bee-Gees song. In fact, most Bee-Gees songs are just beats and high pitched screeching to my ears, even the ones I like, like "You Should be Dancing".

I remember Tony Kornheiser , who lived through seventies, actually joked on his radio show how he used to think that line went, "The New York Times don't take no ads."

I actually do believe that every one of true Kings fan be very happy if Sim comes beasting some day thus including myself "we"
  1. I am, at best, ambivalent to Bhullar, the same way that I'm ambivalent towards every other player in the D-League, despite the fact that I am generally pro D-League, in principal.
  2. If you want to try to reduce this to a "No True Scotsman" fallacy, it is not going to end well.

Yeah, he has a chance. It all depends on getting into big man NBA shape. If I remember, the last 7-5 guy was Yao Ming and he played in Chinese league, probably equal at the time to our D-League now. But he was never 360+ lb either. And it took him a year or 2 to get into NBA playing shape and ability. So if Sim can get the weight down and get his endurance up, would expect to see him in training camp at least but likely another year in D-league or getting down to Sactown for several stretches.

Read here or somewhere the arguments about losing weight during the season especially big weight, like 40+ lb, may not be best or practical for an NBA/D-league player. On the late night TV show he did look a whole lot lighter that before and his minutes are up into the mid-20's+ in the 4,000 ft Reno atmosphere. Guess we'll all need to watch more Reno games to see his on-court progress.

It's not like he is eating up our salary cap or loosing a lot of games for us. I will give kid at least two more years before writing biased songs about him. Even then, I will be proud of young man if he tried his hardest.

It was not meant in a cruel way. That's not who Capt. Factorial is. It was kidding, and the song is a parody of an old BeeGee's song. Don't take things quite so literally.

Well you have to understand for a man of Capt's advancing years those were prime songs he used to perform his hypnotic mating dances to beneath the disco balls.

Here's an actual shot of that funky calculator from back in the day:

He will need to really embrace his inner Mr. Slim :D to have any shot at being an NBA player. D-League season ends very soon, so it will be almost 3 months to Summer League. Let's see if he's lost some weight by then to judge, what direction he's headed to. Also with Ben, Nik and Mac all looking to work on their driving game in the summer he'll get plenty jumpers to shoot in Las Vegas, while spreading the floor for guards, since he's obviously 5-6 years away from being a roll man off of screen action.

Well this years summer league will be a great venue for him to show if he is NBA ready. Personally I'd get him out fitted for a 3 week back packing trip with only the play book and The Art of War to read and 10-15 miles a day to cover. THEN camp out in Vegas at the gym until Summer League starts....

Put the kid on a vegetarian diet! :) Seriously, he needs to lose another 40 lbs or so to be able to play in the NBA. I'm rooting for him. He'd make a nice backup center to Demarcus if he is able to lose the weight.

Or maybe Ranadive can arrange him some personal Himalayan yogi from India to loose weight.

LOL, he should've dropped of exhaustion within 30 seconds of playing. He would obviously need to drop 60-70, including some muscle, to get to 255, and losing even 25-30 is rather dangerous in such a short time. Bhullar should aim for 290 at first - Sim's still a huge man, and if he's getting weight training, he should still weigh a lot.
