Sign and Trade Thompson

As the Jazz and the Nets look less likely to be in the running for Kirilenko, it gives us more of a shot to sign him. If we can sign him between 8-10 mil a year, I think it would be worth it. We would be right around the salary cap after signing him.

After we have signed Kirilenko, we should resign Thompson and include him in a sign and trade.

Thornton
Thompson

for

Iguodala

This would be a good deal for the Sixers who have been looking to move Iguodala. Their 3 guard rotation would be Holiday, Williams, and Thornton. Turner and Young can man the SF spot and depending on if they are able to resign Hawes, they will have a big man rotation of Brand, Thompson, and Hawes with Young being able to give them minutes at PF when needed.

This would be our lineup if we made these changes:

Evans/Thomas/Fredette
Iguodala/Salmons/Garcia
Kirilenko/Outlaw/Honeycutt
Robinson/Hayes
Cousins/Whiteside

The outside shooting from Iguodala and Kirilenko is a bit of a question mark for me, but if they both shoot like they did in the last season they played from three (39.4% and 36.7%), then we will be more than alright. The defense would be outstanding. We would have three tall, long, and athletic perimeter defenders. Two of them being recognized around the league for their defense in multiple seasons. Also having Thomas, Salmons, and Outlaw as our backup perimeter players should establish a good defensive presence even in our second unit. I wouldn't consider Robinson or Cousins below average defenders. I'm sure with Cousins' size and length and Robinson's athleticism they will be solid defenders as well. They both aren't known for shotblocking, but Kirilenko can fill that role for us now. Our backup bigs are mainly focused on defense as well and giving Whiteside 4th big minutes hopefully helps him develop a little quicker and become a very good shotblocker for us. Lastly, the rebounding would be outstanding. Everyone in the starting lineup are above averge rebounders for their position and none of them average less than five boards a game. All in all, I think this team would be extremely competitive right away. And we would be at 60 mil in salaries in case the Maloofs are reading. :)

That would officially make us, by far, the team with the most expensive lineup of SFs in the NBA. I think SFs alone would cost us 30+mil (Iggy, AK, Salmons, Outlaw, Garcia, Honeycutt)

A more interesting sign and trade possibility might be Chicago and Noah if they decided to match the bizarre Asik contract -- they would absolutely need to retreat on one of their other contracts then, and being able to pick up a serviceable big on a reasonable long term deal for half the price of Noah might make sense. Don't think they'll be matching that offer though, so probably moot.

I wouldn't do that trade. If we decide to play Evans at PG (and I doubt it), I'd rather have Thornton than Iggy. We need a shooter out there, and someone in the backcourt who can score in the 4th quarter. I still don't know if Evans can be that guy. Right now MT is the best we have who can do those things, and I'm sure it would be ok on D if he's out there with Evans and AK47. Then, I definitely don't like Hayes and Hassan as our backup bigs. We would be much better with JT as our 3rd big, and Hayes and Hassan with limited minutes.

If we can sign AK47, we don't need to be creative. I'd be more than happy to start the season with IT-Reke-AK-Robinson-Cuz and Jimmer-MT-Outlaw-JT-Hayes form the bench.

They would be ridiculously stupid if they matched Asik's offer. Noah at $12 million is a lot better player than Asik $8 million. If our owners were not broke, its certainly a question that at least needs to be asked.

I'm not sure why this matters especially since 3 of them are at SG in the depth chart. Bottom line is we would be one of the best defensive teams in the league and possibly the best rebounding team in the league. Finally we would be a physical, tough, defensive oriented team.

If you sign JT he can't be traded till the middle of december.

If your actually talking about a sign and trade he and the other team would have to agree to the deal. Normally it's the other team and the player coming to the team with rights asking them for the sign and trade.

Evans is more than capable of being that 4th quarter scorer. You want that guy to be someone who can easily beat people off the dribble. Thornton is not even close to Evans in that regard. By the way, we still have Cousins. I think we're going to see a big improvement from both Evans and Cousins this next season.

As I mentioned in my post, 3pt shooting did concern me with this lineup. I would like to find a site that can show me spot-up shooting percentages so I can look into this a little more. Like I said though, Iguodala shot 39.4% last season from three and Kirilenko shot 36.7% from three two seasons ago. In Russia last year he shot 38.8% from three. I know their line is closer, but it is a promising sign that he shot better from a couple feet closer. It makes the 36.7% seem like it wasn't a fluke.

I understand your worries about having Hayes and Whiteside as our 3rd and 4th bigs and that we would be much better with Thompson as our 3rd big, but hopefully this will comfort you a little bit. In a sense you can think of Kirilenko as our 3rd big. Say we trot out that starting lineup of Evans - Iguodala - Kirilenko - Robinson - Cousins. I would like our first substitution to be Thomas, our sixth man, for Robinson. The lineup then goes to Thomas - Evans - Iguodala - Kirilenko - Cousins. All of a sudden we possibly might have three good 3pt shooters on the floor for Evans and Cousins. What I'm trying to get at is yes on the depth chart it looks like we have Hayes and Whiteside as our 3rd and 4th bigs, but Kirilenko would be able to eat some of those minutes up to help out with our lack of depth in the frontcourt.

In summary, I really, really get excited about defensive lineups. It might just be me because every sport I play I love the feeling of shutting down your opponent. I got more pleasure out of it than scoring on my opponent so it might be my biasness coming out when I post these defensive ideas. I would absolutely love to see this lineup in action. Size, Length, Strength, Athleticism, Defense, and Rebounding. Not to mention having two players on the team who can become elite players (Evans and Cousins). Lastly, I think we'll see some great ball movement. Evans, Iguodala, Kirilenko, and Cousins are all good passers. It could be an exciting team to watch.
