VF21 said:Why? At this point, arguing whether or not Peja Stojakovic should have his number retired with the Kings would be purely based on how you feel about Peja. If you're saying you don't think Webber is worthy of having his number retired, I cannot begin to imagine how you could justify Peja having his retired...
And here it comes...

Twix said:I agree...once Webb retires, he'll get his jersey retire. Like VF said, if Mitch Richmond can, so can Webb. I really hope to see Webb's number hanging in ARCO one day!![]()
Haha good one.quick dog said:No. No brainer.

VF21 said:Did I miss something? I didn't think this was about Vlade.
For the record, the whole Vlade jersey retirement discussion was held back when he first went to LA. The result was overwhelming IN FAVOR OF retiring his jersey.
bozzwell said:I remember that and I suspect that Kings will honor Vlade too, for his intangibles if not for his stats and record. Webber is a no brainer either way you look at it.
I would love to see Kings retire #4 and #21 at the same time, even if that means Vlade waiting or #4 going up before Webber retires. Honoring them both would be a perfect celebration of the whole era.

It's perfectly alright if your answer is "no," but it's hardly a "no brainer." Webber put up numbers that hold up well in Kings/Royals franchise history, and hold up very well in the franchise's Sacramento-era history. They also hold up fairly well against other players who have had their numbers retired, considering the numbers of games he played. In fact, the relatively low 377 games that Webber played in a Kings uniform was good enough for 8846 pts (9th franchise history/2nd Sac-era*), 4007 reb (7th franchise history/1st Sac-era*) and 1791 ast (14th franchise history/5th Sac-era*).quick dog said:No. No brainer.

So what happens? I read this post and start blubbering like a baby.
EXCELLENT IDEA, BOZZWELL!!! And one I hope they seriously consider. Those guys did so much for us; it would be truly magical to put both their numbers up in the rafters at the same time.

Must go now. Need tissue...

bbb said:I LOVE Webb, but please, please....DON'T EVER COMPARE HIM JERRY RICE. EVER. Jerry Rice is the best player at his position (any position?) in NFL history. Webber was a great player before injuries and is still a good player. But he was NEVER, EVER even half as good in basketball as Jerry Rice was in football.
There is simply no comparison
kperica said:Yes, they should.
I hope they're pretty generous with the number retiring for "the golden age" - Webber, Vlade, Peja, Bibby. Although it might suck to be a kings player 10 years from now and have to wear 82 cause all the good numbers are taken.
Gregorius said:I wish they could retire the Jersey, but let players keep on using the number, especially if like we had a Power Forward in the Future that admired Webber and wanted to use #4, or a Shooter that admired Peja and used, #16 or something like that. That would be cool.
