Should the kings retire c-webb's number?

I would retire jerseys of all starters in 2002.year(Vlade,Chris,Peja,Christie,Mike).Those guys are really one big chapter in Kings story, and I think that would be very nice.

Why? At this point, arguing whether or not Peja Stojakovic should have his number retired with the Kings would be purely based on how you feel about Peja. If you're saying you don't think Webber is worthy of having his number retired, I cannot begin to imagine how you could justify Peja having his retired...

And here it comes...

Why VF21? Why VF21? You just opened pandora's box. ;) :D

Ah, but after that I made a point about sticking to the topic at hand and not spinning the thread off into another direction.

So, maybe I put the lid back on Pandora's Box???

;)

In short, absolutely. I don't see how any Kings fan could argue that Webber's or Vlade's jerseys should not be retired. These guys were the catalysts behind the most successful years of the Sacramento Kings.

since i posted the question that started this thread -- i feel the need to insert my 2 cents (okay) anyway i'm glad to hear that most of you recognize and respect the impact that chris has had on this franchise and sad that some of you question vlade's impact, but i guess you are entitled to your opinions( no matter how skewed they are) ;)

I agree...once Webb retires, he'll get his jersey retire. Like VF said, if Mitch Richmond can, so can Webb. I really hope to see Webb's number hanging in ARCO one day! :)

hopefully they'll hang it in the new arena, too. otherwise it would be kinda disrespectful to him, don't you thing? hanging it in an old abandoned shed?

Did I miss something? I didn't think this was about Vlade.

For the record, the whole Vlade jersey retirement discussion was held back when he first went to LA. The result was overwhelming IN FAVOR OF retiring his jersey.

I remember that and I suspect that Kings will honor Vlade too, for his intangibles if not for his stats and record. Webber is a no brainer either way you look at it.

I would love to see Kings retire #4 and #21 at the same time, even if that means Vlade waiting or #4 going up before Webber retires. Honoring them both would be a perfect celebration of the whole era.

Well said......................very well said, indeed!!!!!

#4 will absolutely be retired, and rightfully so. I'm pretty sure #21 will as well. Two jersey retirements aren't too many for 7 years of amazing success after decades of futility.

Peja and Bibby will be determined by their future accomplishments.

deffinetly makes sense, alacron, i think i agree

im still wondering why DC is out of this discussion, even if the discussion isnt supposed to be going on in this thread....i guess he was less instrumental than C-Webb and Vlade but still....

Okay, I've been doing pretty good all day. Only cried when I put the tape in the VCR to see what was on it and saw Vlade, Doug, Chris, Peja and Bibby playing the Clippers on Webb's first game back...

So what happens? I read this post and start blubbering like a baby.

EXCELLENT IDEA, BOZZWELL!!! And one I hope they seriously consider. Those guys did so much for us; it would be truly magical to put both their numbers up in the rafters at the same time.

...

Must go now. Need tissue...

No. No brainer.
It's perfectly alright if your answer is "no," but it's hardly a "no brainer." Webber put up numbers that hold up well in Kings/Royals franchise history, and hold up very well in the franchise's Sacramento-era history. They also hold up fairly well against other players who have had their numbers retired, considering the numbers of games he played. In fact, the relatively low 377 games that Webber played in a Kings uniform was good enough for 8846 pts (9th franchise history/2nd Sac-era*), 4007 reb (7th franchise history/1st Sac-era*) and 1791 ast (14th franchise history/5th Sac-era*).

* - At the time he left

By comparison, here are the numbers for the other players who've had their jerseys retired:

Code:
			gms	pts reb ast
Sam Lacey (44) 881	9895 9353 3563
N. Archibald (1)	433	10894 1207 3499
O. Robertson (14)	752	22009 6380 7731
Bob Davies (11) 462	6594 980 2250
M. Stokes (12) 202	3315 3492 1062
Jack Twyman (27)	823	15840 5424 1861
Mitch Richmond (2)	517	12070 1933 2128

this is like asking should the 49ers retire Jerry Rice's jersey...............

I LOVE Webb, but please, please....DON'T EVER COMPARE HIM JERRY RICE. EVER. Jerry Rice is the best player at his position (any position?) in NFL history. Webber was a great player before injuries and is still a good player. But he was NEVER, EVER even half as good in basketball as Jerry Rice was in football.

There is simply no comparison

Yes, they should.
I hope they're pretty generous with the number retiring for "the golden age" - Webber, Vlade, Peja, Bibby. Although it might suck to be a kings player 10 years from now and have to wear 82 cause all the good numbers are taken.

I wish they could retire the Jersey, but let players keep on using the number, especially if like we had a Power Forward in the Future that admired Webber and wanted to use #4, or a Shooter that admired Peja and used, #16 or something like that. That would be cool.

that kinda defeats the purpose of retiring the jersey, but whatever you say
