The arco ghost came and bit him in the jaw I guess, happened to bonzi now to SAR...great.(yes I know I already posted here, but I just remembered how this happened to our 2 new guys).

This bad bit of new inspired me to use the "Search" function of this board, but as far as I could tell, Bricklayer never actually used the term "glass jaw" to describe SAR during all of the offseason speculation.;)

Kidding aside, it was interesting to see everyone's concerns at that point; it was all about whether Bonzi adapt to the team chemistry (and not be a headache off the court) and if there would be enough shots to go around for everyone if SAR were part of the offense.

...fast forward to today, and Bonzi is the player all the fans love the most (and for good reason!) and SAR is a close second, for whom the biggest gripe is that he isn't involved enough in the offense.

Im not sure how a broken jaw translates into a month off court unless some one WANTS him off court and it's an excuse.

I've had a broken jaw. I heal fast and insisted on having the wires removed early because I had an oral argument competition coming up, and it still took a month (+ was not at 100% strength).

You cannot really play a contact sport with a broken jaw because there is no way to shield your whole face other than wearing a helmet and one blow to EITHER side of the face will rebreak it. Also, you have to be fitted with special braces top and bottom so that they have something to wrap the wire around when they wrap your jaw shut, and any blow to the face or cheeks would certainly slice up the inside of your mouth too.

4 weeks minimum really.

As an aside -- we've lost 5 in a row, are 10-17.

Kenny Thomas is not THAT much worse of a player than the Shareef we have seen this year (16pts 6.5rebs), and he will help us out with our rebounding if nothing else. I'm not sure there is that much downside to this news -- hard to get much worse really. I just think that what it begins to foreclose is the possibility of us recovering and actually improving to make the playoffs barring some mega move or moves.

Adbur-Rahim out with broken jaw

LOS ANGELES - Kings power forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim suffered a broken jaw against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night, X-rays revealed Tuesday.

There is no known timetable for Abdur-Rahim's absence. From Sacramento, Abdur-Rahim said he and trainer Pete Youngman will assess the situation Wednesday morning to decide on further measures.

Abdur-Rahim was hit in the jaw by Trail Blazers forward Zach Randolph but continued to play in the game. Abdur-Rahim said the X-ray was merely a precautionary measure, and he was surprised when the news came that his jaw was broken. He flew with the team to Los Angeles late Monday night and returned the next morning.

Abdur-Rahim was signed as a free agent this past off-season and was hoped to have given the team a star at power forward. He was averaging 16.5 points a game and 6.4 rebounds in 27 games.

Oh this sucks. Man, that hit didn't even look that bad. Looked more like a slap to me. Of course a slap from Zachs forearm. Damn.

He'll be out awhile guys. Broken jaws, as Brick said, are something you don't mess with.

SAR is about as level headed as they come. It says something if we was pissed enough to get a technical.
Uh, no. Actually that is not the SAR we have seen this year at all.

The SAR we have seen is really rivalling Brad for best bitter beer face, complains after nearly every call, has picked up technicals and is always after the refs. I was trying to recall whether it has always been like that, or he just caught Kingitis. But in any case, his demeanor on the court vis a vis the refs leaves a lot to be desired, and picking up a technical is no surprose at all for him this season.

One thing I will say is that the fact he played on and was still surprised it was that serious later that night tells me that maybe, just maybe, this was a relatively mild break.

I played the rest of the half when I broke mine, but I was also spitting up a ton of blood and looked like a chipmunk. Went off to my next two classes afterward with an icebag attached to my jaw but had to keep on going to the bathroom to spit up blood and finally decided to go to the hospital when I noticed that if I shoved on the opposite side of my lower jaw I could shift the broken side out of alignment.

Find it hard to believe that a professional athlete surrounded by professional trainers could go through all of that and have it go unnoticed until the middle of the night. So maybe, just maybe, its a hairline fracture or some such rather than a complete break and we can catch a little "break" ourselves here and get him back early.

No way his was as serious as yours. So maybe it is something like a hairline. Hopefully!

Get well REEF!!!

I'm hoping for the hairline fracture, no bone dislocation scenario.

I had upper and lower jaw surgery. Wired shut 6 weeks. Could not talk or breathe all that well. Had to suck nutrients thru holes so small banana seeds could get stuck!

I hope that Reef misses more than 6 weeks. I hope that Peja misses a good amount of time, as well as Bonzi.

I hope Rick resigns, and we get a young coach who does well with rebuilding.

I hope Petrie, if he still has a job, pulls off Peja and Bibby deals for young potential stars.

I hope we get lucky in the lottery.

I hope we're contenders again in 2008.

I'm only half joking

Edit: wow, I sound like Piksi :p

SacKid, edit that avatar pic and give Reef a brace. :D

Seriously, I hope that KT will do a good job. I said a couple days ago, "It doesn't get much worse than this". I've been completely proven wrong.

Go Kings

My point was not that SAR was a wuss for not playing with a broken jaw (had one my self) it was that what ever hapend last night I would doubt it is a true break since he palyed the game out and did not seem any worse for wear. I find it hard to belive this is a serious break that would take 6 weeks to heal, but I know just enough about medicine to teach rhetoric for a living.
