Season is over for Spencer

Spencer has been a real disappointed this year.
Here's hoping he hits the gym hard this off-season.

I will buy him a wagon full of these:

The knees are what concern me. I have high hopes for Hawes, but I gotta remember the knees.

A strong off-season plan will help his knees in the long run. He needs to be smart about it from that standpoint. Either way, looks like we'll be small-ballin' the rest of the season.

To be fair, he was kicked in the knee somehow. So the bone contusion is definitely from that.

Was the "irregular signal" caused by the kick, or the joint not holding up after the surgeries? That's the big question

Did a little research on what an "irregular signal" is. It seems to have to do with the meniscus. An abnormal signal can mean that the shape of the meniscus is disrupted which means a tear. However, if the abnormal signal is within the confines of the shape of th meniscus it may mean nothing.

Well we can hope, but I doubt it, because, "He can't make himself something he's not".

lol! well i had to get in on this thread right?

That quote from Spence is at the heart of what scares me about him... Ok everyone here knows he's not Brockman and he won't ever be just like him... but to dismiss rebounding and shot blocking all together as "not his style"... lame...

another quote was about "working hard in the offseason to earning a new contract" so again this worries me... cause apparently just being better isn't enough motivation for Spence... but earning that new contract is gonna push him this offseason.... hmm....

WELL ALL I CAN SAY IS... HE BETTER WORK HARD AND HIT THE WEIGHTS... cause if he has another year (ditching summerleague, basically suspended) like this one he will be officially a total let down...

i just wanna see effort... and him putting in the work... if he cant do that next year i'd be totally over him if i was Petrie...

Sometimes I wonder about Spence's knees and how they are going to hold up long-term. :(

He's gonna be fine... he was ok until he banged it... i think hes done for the year because its pointless to risk putting anyone out on the floor thats not 100%... this year is over...

plus he can be totally healthy to start that workout program for the offseason:rolleyes:

I have torn meniscus in both my knee's, which is not fun, but certainly not career ending. If its inside the knee, it will usually heal in time and is not that serious. However my doctor told me that if the tear is near the center of the knee, then sometime surgery is required. If it protrudes outside the knee, as mine do, its usually repairable with minor surgery. Not that any surgery on the knee is minor. Its the absence of meniscus in the knee thats serious, since thats the cushion that the knee rides on.

In my case its was severe hyperextension that tore my meniscus, which I'm told is a very common injury with hyperextension. I used to play wallyball every wednsday night. A great game by the way. I could play without pain for the entire night. However the next day my right knee would be swollen and very painful to bend. But by the next wednsday I was good to go again. It worked for me. But if I would have had to play again in a day or two, there's no way I could have done it.

Hawes bad luck might be Thompson's good luck. It will give the team a chance to get a good look at him playing center. But the best thing to come out of this might be the fact that he knows he has to stay out of foul trouble since there's really no one to back him up. So far he's been doing a pretty good job, and his overall play has been a lot better. He wasn't great last night as far as rebounding goes, but offensively he was fine. It looks like he's finally letting the game come to him and taking whats there.

Other than last night his defense has greatly improved. I still hold out hope for him. These last few games could be a good way to get him on the right track into the offseason. He still makes little mistakes, like taking the extra dribble when he doesn't need to. Or by trying to make up for a mistake by making a bigger one. I hope in the offseason he hires a good big man coach and really works on his post game. He has a career there for the taking, he just needs to put in the right work.

On his Radio show Grant Napear quoted Daniel Shapiro the Kings strength and conditioning coach. He said Hawes is the hardest working King in the weight room and also the strongest.

That said I think this is the year Petrie picks up a couple of Quality bigs. I expect to see 2 bigs and a shooting guard added to the Kings this summer. 2 draft picks, veteran signing and a trade.

If there is a steady veteran starting center available I would not be surprised to see Hawes packing his bags.

I think maybe it's about time this team moved in a different direction with it's team trainer.... This Daniel Shapiro guy must be terrible if Hawes is in the best shape...

We said the same thing about Beno last year. I am feeling optimistic.

Umm... It's not the same... See beno was coming off a good year... Then he had a bad year, which btw could be totally blamed on terrible coaching, and play calling. However hawes has yet to ever come off a good year under any coach, or in the NBA

Oh give me a freaking break. Now, you think Daniel Shapiro is the guy to blame.
