Because I don’t think Perry is trying to do a Sixers style “Become embarrassingly bad as fast and long as possible” style process rebuild and is aiming more for an OKC style slow burn that keeps a winning culture intact.

Signing old vets is not a sign of blowing it up. Trading your assets for young talent and/or picks is how you properly blow it up. Giving away assets is not the right way.

I don't see OKC as a model. They had Shai right off the jump. Then they added prime CP3 for a year. Then they realized they couldn't tank with Cp3 and moved him. How do we get our Shai without tearing it down? We've established that our guys don't have trade value anywhere close to commanding top picks.

I'm thinking its along what @Tetsujin is saying where we don't want to do a Process so much as a soft reset. If we acquire picks as we move players no longer necessary (and maybe picks or other compensation is what is holding up this deal?) we can rebuild without having to tank, especially since the lottery has not been kind to teams trying to blatantly Hinkie lately.
I don't think Scott would rather have LaVine based on things he has said in the past but I think the money on that one is even harder than the money on DeMar and Monk. All of these guys will eventually be expirings in short order though.

I think there’s a little bit of “swap meet”-ology going on right now from the Kings front office where Perry might feel like he can get more assets by flipping Malik for a couple of older on-ball guards on cheaper, short deals who teams might want for a stretch run in February than by holding onto Monk and waiting for the right opportunity to fleece someone like Ainge tried doing with Clarkson and Sexton only for nothing to show up and for him to ultimately just get a return of Nurkic and a second round pick.
I mentioned something earlier, if the deals are appropriately sized (and I have never bought this full MLE for Dennis talk, I'll take everything back if that's his final number and it's guaranteed more than one year) and the team is sitting 11-15 where I think we will be, we ship those guys at the deadline. For that matter I imagine Deebo will be more attractive at that time too if he is only partially guaranteed next year.
