Congratulations to the Spurs for the incredible choke job. And, while I'm at it, props to Tony Parker for the acting job of the century AND to the officials for letting both teams mug the crap out of each other in the last 7.3 seconds.

I was watching this game with a buddy of mine and he made a comment that Kobe wasn't showing up in the first half. I said, "Watch, Kobe is going to score 25 in the second half."
I actually feel kinda sick to my stomach for predicting that. Or the fact that I made a beneficial prediction for the Lakers at all.

Congratulations to the Spurs for the incredible choke job.
44-20 was the total run. They went on a 45-19 run to close out their last game vs SA at Staples in the reg season.
Honestly, LA played like **** too in the first half, but I guess that means it's better to play like **** in the first half.

No "love of the NBA" = "love of what is best for the NBA" which you yourself admit that ratingwise and accordingly interestwise would be a Lakers/Celtics series. Drums up interest, drums up ratings. Drums up new fans. May not be your cup of tea, but if you like the league, and the league benefits, then thinking Celtics/Lakers would be a good thing on that basis makes perfect sense.

Don't feel badly. How many long-time Kobe bashers didn't really see this coming? He plays like cow poop in the first half so he, and he alone, can step up and -- TA DA! - lead his team to victory. I'm pretty sure the script-writer was there in Staples somewhere, watching as the Lakers played their parts to perfection.

This was one of the strangest games to watch for me ever.
When the Lakers were sucking earlier....i wasn't sure whether to be happy or not. When they went into colossal suck mode and were down 20, i was still very unsure.
Then they started coming back and I was like "Yay?" And then I remembered it was the Lakers, and fell back into my rampant confusion
Finally in the final sequence, when Tony Parker flopped and the game ended my confusion came to a head.
The refs hadn't called a flop call for the Spurs. Finally, they didn't do it. They didn't fall for it. They didn't allow the Spurs "craftiness" (ie "cheatyness") to prevail. After 12 playoff games of doing the opposite they finally learned.
But really, this is just the hilarity of the universe because they finally figured it out against the Lakers. Not in game 6 vs the Hornets, not in game 5 vs the Suns. But in Game 1 vs the Lakers.
Finally, when we could rejoice on a flop not called, a cheat not rewarded, it turns around and makes a Laker win. The universe can go......screw itself

Meh, lakers were expected to win the first home game of the series. The fact that they had to work that hard and come from behind is a problem for them. This maybe Spurs in 6 but I will stick with 7.

Coming back from 20 points down is amazing especially vs. the defending champs. The Spurs would have blown any other team away tonight except the Lakers. It was a mental blow. The Spurs have to wonder what they have to do to win in L.A. I wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers blow the Spurs out in Game 2.

I would just like to see some consistent, correct officiating. In my eyes that "push" in the back (if that even was a push) by Timmy on Pau, going for the rebound late in the game was as much a foul as Pau "pushing" Okur in the back. This incident wasn't at an extremely pivotal moment or didn’t affect the outcome of the game but should have been a no call as well. Also the basket by Odom over Finley in the 4th should not have counted as he traveled. It was clear his right foot was his pivot foot and he picked it up as he spun before he bounced the ball, and this was at a pivotal moment of the game. Oh well. Regardless the Spurs lost a winnable game.

Refs are going to make mistake, bad judgement and bias call here and there. Sound like human? I think so.
We all know bad call exists so no more excuses. Too many excuses to lose IMO..win or go home.

Okay, I'm normally fine with you singling out my posts, if you interpret them correctly. However, that wasn't one of my normal so-called 'conspiracy' posts. It was just a funny realization that the only flop I've ever seen go uncalled for the Spurs helped the Lakers win.
While I'll admit I do believe there were some EXTREMELY sketchy calls for the Spurs and Lakers in their respective series, the point of my last post was not to bring that out. It was to point out a glaring irony of last night's game.

What's best for the NBA is a great rivalry and great ratings. If it happens, there's bound to be more NBA fans. You have to remember the NBA was on tape delay before the Lakers/Celtics rivalry of the 80's; we've come a long way since then. I’m not saying a Celtics/Lakers matchup would change the face of the NBA, but it would certainly help.
This doesn't answer my question: why can't Spurs/Celtics be a great rivalry? Or Spurs/Pistons? Or, for that matter, Lakers/Pistons?

Did anybody check out what happened to the Spurs plane after they beat New Orleans and tried to leave town right after game 7? It broke down and they were stuck aboard it for 11 hours at Louis Armstrong Int'l Airport during repairs and then long flight to LA. They wanted to go back to their hotel, but a convention in town had already booked it. So instead they just slept on their luxury private jet and eventually got to LA Tuesday morning 9am PST. No excuses, since they had Lakers down by 20 midway in the 3rd quarter. Kobe took over and the rest is history. Maybe better luck Friday night, but I really don't care who wins WCF or ECF for that matter.

The Lakers know they can beat the Spurs especially after that game. The Spurs have to wonder what they have to do to win... go up by 30 points? But yes, the Lakers will be foolish to think that they will walk all over the Spurs tomorrow. Any other team than the Lakers though, the Spurs would have won by 25.

Who says they can't? The fact, and the obvious point, is they aren't.
It's hard to argue that Lakers/Celtics wouldn't be best for the NBA in the short term. You can argue that it wouldn't be best for your enjoyment of the NBA, but that doesn't negate Ryan's original comment.
Obvious to whom? I think that the Lakers/Pistons rivalry is much better than the Lakers/Celtics rivalry... Plus it has the added bonus of the Lakers only being 5-11 against the Pistons all-time in the playoffs. You can't go wrong with that.
