Obvious to whom? I think that the Lakers/Pistons rivalry is much better than the Lakers/Celtics rivalry... Plus it has the added bonus of the Lakers only being 5-11 against the Pistons all-time in the playoffs. You can't go wrong with that.

Besides which, midwest >>>>>>> east coast

Yeah I agree actually. The Pistons have won 2 of their championships vs LA so... maybe they can get their 4th vs LA?:D

So for you personally a Lakers/Pistons rivalry is more exciting than the Lakers/Celtics rivalry. I think the one most obvious point that your're missing (and I mean obvious to me, at least) is that your choice is not shared by an apparent majority of people. Are you the only one? Of course not but I think it's fairly clear that more people would like the aforementioned Los Angeles/Boston matchup. But, since it's TDOS, I'll start a poll to see...

:p

Watching the Spurs whine and make faces after every call is simply delightful. With any luck at all, this series will go the full seven games with equal heartbreak in San Antonio for the Lakers.

With any luck, Kobe Bryant will fall down a rabbit hole and end up in Wonderland.

I'm glad that we have so many "real NBA fans" who are so concerned with the league's ratings. I hope that when the gd lakers raise #15, you'll all be happy, because at least the Spurs got their comeuppance.

Yeah and since when did Kings fans hate the Spurs? Why? We atleast have reason to hate the flipping lakers, I have no reason to hate SA. Do they annoy me at times? Yeah but they're definitely better than the lucking fakers.

Excuse me?

Look again at my comment. I stated quite clearly that I hope the Lakers face heartbreak on the Spurs home court, just as the Spurs have faced a lot of hardship on the Lakers home court.

I am, first and foremost, a Kings fan. I do not truly have a horse in this race. I have stated quite openly that I would like to see a Lakers-Celtics finals. That doesn't make me a Laker fan and I think you're making way too much of it.

I only want ONE team to win the WC title. Since that's obviously not going to happen this year (I'm not positive but I'm fairly sure you have to actually BE in the playoffs to WIN the playoffs) I'm amusing myself by watching these two teams - both of whom I hate - play.

This Kings fan has hated the Spurs almost as long as I've hated the Lakers. The Spurs hate is not genetic, however. It's simply a dislike of them, their style of play (especially lately) and their fans. If that's not how you feel, fine. No problem. But the idea that Kings fans are going to start going after each other over this whole thing is pretty pathetic IMHO.

That's all well and to the good, and it doesn't address anything I said, either.

Yeah, I get it, you want to see the renewal of the rivalry. I even get that you want to see the lakers get beat in the Finals by the Celtics because the Celtics were your first team, and because you, unlike me, liked the lakers/Celtics rivalry. I grok your point of view and respect your opinion, but I utterly reject your premise. In the first place, what makes you think, if the Spurs can't beat the Lakers, that the Celtics have a chance? The Celtics can't beat the lakers, never mind destroy and humiliate them. Hell, the Celtics have shown that they are the most flawed team of the four still in the playoffs. They're more likely to get swept than they are to humiliate the lakers. And, in the second place, the concept of hoping the lakers to get to the Finals just to lose makes no sense at all to me: why would it be better for the lakers to get to the Finals than for them to lose before they get there? The very idea seems bass-ackwards.

1. Kevin Garnett
2. Ray Allen
3. Paul Pierce

I think the matchup of the Celtics-Lakers will be much more interesting than what we've seen so far. I'm not trying to say I KNOW the Celtics will win but I cannot help but think they'll step up - provided they get past the Pistons - and make it a very interesting finals. I think there's a real chance the "Big Three" will settle down to business and get the job done when they need to get the job done.

The Celtics can't beat the lakers, never mind destroy and humiliate them. Hell, the Celtics have shown that they are the most flawed team of the four still in the playoffs. They're more likely to get swept than they are to humiliate the lakers.
And "more likely" is just as much up in the air as any possible reason I've posited so far.

And, in the second place, the concept of hoping the lakers to get to the Finals and lose makes no sense at all to me: why would it be better for the lakers to get to the Finals than for them to lose before they get there? The very idea seems bass-ackwards.
If the Lakers lose before the Finals, then my wish to see the Celtics defeat them has no possibility of success. If, however, the Spurs lose then the Lakers have to go into the finals facing either their long-time rivals the Celtics or the always-dangerous Pistons.

The higher you climb, the further you may fall. And watching the Lakers lose in the finals to either the Celtics or the Pistons would make me smile. Not start planning a parade or shifting allegiance or anything else. Just a smile. And at this point in the post-season, just a smile is about the most I would expect.

And see, I happen to be of the opinion that you are asking too much for a smile. To me, what you said suggests that you're not happy seeing the lakers lose unless certain teams are the ones to cause it to happen, and I don't have that hangup. There's not a single team in the NBA, past, present or future, that could beat the gd lakers and it not make me smile, and there never will be.

Let me put it to you like this: I would rather see FSM win the championship than see the gd lakers win a playoff series against anybody.

Then I apologize for "asking too much for a smile." Silly me. I thought I was simply voicing a personal preference. I didn't realize I'd have to justify it to someone else's standards.

I would appreciate it, however, if you didn't make it sound as though I'm a Laker fan because I've made it very clear that I'm only really interested in the Finals.

I was a Celtics fan for over 20 years. Had the Kings not come to Sacramento I would still be a Celtics fan. So, for me, the chance to root for them is like wishing a former boyfriend the best.

I'll keep my hopes, feelings, etc. about the rest of the playoffs to myself.

Why do the lakers have to get to the Finals for the Celtics to win?
...sigh...

Because, for me, it would be nice to see the Celtics beat the Lakers in the finals again. Which I think I've stated about seventy-eleven times already.

This finals means very little to me otherwise because I don't really like three of the four teams who are left.

FOR ME. Not necessarily for anyone else on the entire planet - or in the galaxy. Just for me.

You're still trying to argue about whether or not my personal feeling/preference is right or not. Well, right or wrong isn't relevant. It's my personal feeling/preference in watching a sporting event. I'm not trying to convert you - or anyone else - to my way of thinking.

I also happen to like frozen yogurt better than ice cream. Also a personal preference/feeling. Does that mean frozen yogurt IS better than ice cream? Nope. It just means what it means. I happen to like frozen yogurt. And I happen to like the idea of the Celtics beating the Lakers in the finals.

Of course, there is always the reasoning that some people may want the Lakers to go as far as they can without winning the championship. I think that such as loss can be a lot more crushing than losing for example in the conference finals.

For example, what hurts more, the Kings loss in WC finals agains the Lakers or the year before when we got swept (in an earlier round if I remember correctly) ?
