Sam Mitchell Fired

Was wondering if this was coming -- that team has no depth, but it just seems like that starting five + 6th man should be getting better results, and I know they were looking at taking a step forward, not one back this year.

Raptors fans have been calling for this just as intensely as Kings fans have. Apparently his coaching has been inexcuseable this season.

Hrm...

"This is a difficult but necessary step the franchise must take," Kings owner Joe Maloof said. "We appreciate all that Reggie has done for the organization, applaud him for his successes and wish him nothing but the best with his future in basketball."

Yup. I think that will work just fine.

:p

I read this and thought this was an actual quote from the Maloofs
I know many people want Reggie fired, but I don't and you scared me! lol

People were treating Bryan Colangelo like a demi-god a couple of years ago. Now.... not so much. Paying Jason Kapono so much money, Bargnani not really panning out in a big way, betting the farm on Jermaine O'Neal, not convincing John Salmons that God wanted him in Toronto.... I think they're going to have to face facts in Toronto that they're just not that good.

Anthony Parker is 33 years old -- it was inevitable he was going to decline at some point, even if he doesn't have he mileage of most NBA players. They've got nothing -- nada -- on the wings. Calderon/Bosh and a washed up O'Neal just aren't going to get it done.

It is unfortunate that God told Salmons not to go to Toronto a couple of years ago, because they would be precisely the sort of team that we could trade him to otherwise -- desperate to win now in order to keep Bosh interested, emaciated on the wings, and in need of another scorer.

This is a sign of things to come. Bryan Colangelo isn't the "savior" (or "saviour") he was made out to be and I'm sure he'll be feeling the heat all season. Their roster, outside of Bosh, is not of high quality. Calderon is an "offense only" player. O'Neal is decent but not against strong competition. Bargnani is soft. Parker guards no one and can't generate enough offense to make up for that. Their bench consists of a bunch of players I can't readily identify. It's a mess, and Sam was the scapegoat.

I'm from Canada and I've seen a lot of Raptors games, and let me say this: Mitchell is not a good coach. I agree with your post for the most part, but I think Parker is actually under-rated defensively. I'm not a fan of his but he has a decent jump shot as well. Bargnani is soft, but he's learning to drive to the basket hard instead of settling for 3's all the time (he still does this occasionally though). Calderon is mostly all offense, though he does pressure the ball up the court sometimes. And honestly, I don't think I've seen the guy miss any open jumpers.
