Now I know why this last weekend after responding to the rantings of Grant Napear, that Sam said he would never respond to such things again, and he's quite certain he'll never have to again...details coming soon. That was from this last weekend.

The Bee is going through Kings beat writers almost as quick as the Kings have gone through coaches the last couple of years.

From what I remembered, Grant was commenting on Sam's article because Sam wrote something critical of Evans triple double, or doesn't believe it should be a triple double.

oh this absolutely sucks. Sam does a very good job of covering the Kings. Now we get more of Voison, Jason Jones or Bradley. Just wonderful

This sucks for Kings fans. Sam was very much a Kings insider.. We got a ton of info through him, and he's been awesome for trade deadline/ draft workout stuff. I hope to God we bring in someone new for his job. Jones is aweful. He's so dull and of course he rather be in LA. I hope it was Amicks choice to leave, because if he was fired then wow.. The Bee is stupid.

This sounds like this was very much Sams choice. Probably, because he knew that newspapers aren't the way things are headed. Fanhouse online based, is popular, well known, and online is where it's at..and Sam knows it.

And Sam didn't say anything to make Grant leave, and Grant didn't say anything to make Sam leave. I think it just happened that Sam had this fanhouse thing in the works when this went down, and so he said he was sure that he wouldn't have to respond, or deal with this again...with more news coming shortly. This was the news.

I think the last straw for Sam may have been that article he wrote about Kevin Martin's agent and his editors deleted some of his text that made the story have a different meaning.

Why don't we e-mail Bradley and let him know that we don't want Jason Jones, (not that it will do any good), as I agree with the others, he is horrible.

I am glad Sam escaped the Bee, and I am looking forward to reading him on Fanhouse. I will miss his Kings coverage.

poor Sam took over the beat just as the Kings went in decline, and is leaving now just as they have started their ascent.

One nice thing about Jones though -- you know his agenda right up front and as far as one Kings player vs. another, or liking the GM but not the owners, or vice versa, or wanting this draft pick or that, all that kinds of stuff I don't think he cares. Useful sometimes to have a non-fan doing the matter of fact writing. However having him start off wiht a Lakers game is a bit much.

What'd Sam say to Grant that got him to leave?
I doubt Sam's leaving had anything to do with his little spat with Grant. The Bee is probably going broke and can't afford a good beat writer (just my opinion) but Sam probably just got a better offer. Remember Sam had a run in with Reggie Theus too. So I think its apples and oranges.

Sam was just on Koz's show and Jason Jones is in fact takin over full Tim responsibility of reporting on the Kings.

And no need to feel sorry for Sam. This is a great opportunity or him.

This is an upgrade in job for Amick. The Bee has been in a down spiral for many years. When your the only daily newspaper in town and your readership has been falling off year after year, then working online is an upgrade. The Bee has been bleeding talent for a long time.

Amick said today is his last day at the Bee. He's taking a little breather, then starting up in April. He'll prob have articles about 3 times a week. It sounded like he'd be specializing in Northern California sports. I may have understood him wrong. But, it sounds like he'll be covering a lot of Kings, Warriors, 49ers, Raiders, maybe Sharks etc. If that's the case we should get the same objective reporting.

That's the great part about Sam, he sounds like he's for the guys, but not a homer. he still is critical, and analytical, not just positive, positive, rah, rah stuff.

I messaged Sam in Twitter yesterday about his role at Fanhouse. He will be reporting specifically on the NBA, and Nor-Cal teams mainly (Warriors and Kings).

So, we can still get teh reporting on the Kings that we like through fanhouse.

Or just follow him on twitter, since he seems to put everything he's going to include in his articles in tweets as it happens.

Well not EVERYTHING. Breaking news, or random retweets from Brandon Jennigs, or other people. But you don't get full articles on there.

Oops. I sure wish we had a "facetious" emoticon. ;)

Amick tweets more than just about any other professionally-employed print journalist I've ever seen.
