For the third year, Carl’s Jr. has teamed with the Sacramento Kings to offer Kings bobbleheads. Thanks to the strong fan response in the Sacramento area, the two previous bobblehead offers were recognized as the top “Out of Arena” promotions in the NBA.
The limited-edition bobbleheads have been so popular with fans that lines have often formed outside Carl’s Jr. restaurants awaiting each week’s new release. This year, what was expected to simply be another popular bobbleheads offer may now turn into a collectors’ frenzy. Two of the 2005 season bobbleheads feature commerative versions of Matt Barnes and Chris Webber, along with current Kings Brad Miller, Darius Songaila, and Greg Ostertag.
“This could be the fans’ only chance to get a Barnes or Webber Kings bobblehead,” said Renae Scott, vice president of field marketing and media for Carl’s Jr.
“There is already buzz about these sought-after, one-of-a-kind items, and we haven’t even begun offering them in the restaurants yet.”
Each week, participating Carl’s Jr. restaurants will offer one new bobblehead. The featured players, in order of the date of their release, are:
March 23 - Brad Miller
March 30 - Darius Songaila
April 6 - Matt Barnes
April 13 - Greg Ostertag
<li> April 20 - Chris Webber
Carl’s Jr. guests may order the featured bobblehead for $4.99, with a select purchase. Bobbleheads will be sold in the Sacramento area – including Stockton, Modesto, Williams, Auburn, Placerville and Suisun City.
This is the Kings’ 20th season in Sacramento. To celebrate, the players are featured in uniforms that the team used in their first (1985-86) season: light blue in color, with "Kings" written in script on the front and the player’s name positioned beneath the number on the back – a rarity in sports history.
Carl's Jr. has successfully sold bobbleheads in previous years with promotions tied to the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Lakers, St. Louis Rams and the Colorado Avalanche. Bobbleheads were first produced in the early 1900s and were popularized with figures of well-known political and pop icons. During the past few years, the sports-figure bobbleheads have gained value as collectibles, attracting bids of more than $150 on Internet auction sites.
