Makes sense in view of the Chad Ford comments in the "Artest to Houston and Adelman" post.

This trade gets the Kings a biggie (Skinner) behind Miller who can also run and defend. The greek kid is hard to know but might be a Ginobli type who can play point. But the biggies are the #6 and #26 in the draft which could be great for Kings/Petrie

I'm liking it more and more. Wonder if MKE or HOU has any views on this?

Hmmm.....talent going out is much less then talent coming in...but no headcase. I guess so.

Can we just fastforward this organization 3 years? We dont look good for awhile.

Not too shabby. Between this deal, and your three-way Bibby to Clippers trade, you've been on fire lately, nbrans. Where do I sign up?

Can someone explain to me why Milwaukee is willing to give up an expiring contract and the #6 to get Shane Battier and a lower pick just so Houston can get Artest?

Oh, okay... I thought it might have something to do with beer.

:p

The Bucks has a team option on Brian Skinner, which mean a 99.9% chance they'll just let him walk this summer. For the Bucks to do this deal, they'll likely try to dump Dan Gadzuric or even Bobby Simmons on us instead.

From the Bucks' perspective, they can just let Skinner walk and use the freed-up cap on a Shane Battier type player and still keep the #6 pick.

Now that I think about it, once they let go of Skinner, they'll be about $24 millions under the cap. That's enough $$ to re-sign Mo Williams and make a run for Rashard Lewis/Gerald Wallace. If they sign a big-name SF, they pick a big man with the #6; and suddenly they're one of the best teams in the east.

You're right, I'd forgotten about the team option -- I was thinking it wouldn't impact their free agency because Skinner and Battier make the same amount, but this changes things. Still though, I really think Battier would be a perfect fit with their roster since they so badly need a defensive presence at the SF spot. And also, their cap space wouldn't be attractive to Houston, who is far over the cap and aren't looking to cut salary, so something like this might be the only way of getting him. And it's only moving down four spots in the draft, which, since they don't really need a big, is not that big of a deal for them anyway with the small forwards availalbe.

They'd be giving up less than what we gave up to get Battier. We gave up a lottery pick (#8) and Stromile Swift (filler contract) for Battier.

They give up Skinner and only have to slide down 4 spots in the draft. All in all, that's really pretty good for them. Although, I'm not sure why they need Shane Battier.

The question is why the Rockets do this. What's the point in replacing Battier with Artest right now unless you can get Artest on the cheap. As it stands, this deal isn't worth it from the Rockets side. Battier should fit Adelman's offense very well, plays great defense, and isn't a nutcase.

No we don't. I hope people remember this in the future. Rebuilding (true rebuilding) takes time. Look at the Bulls.

Perfectly reasonable looking multi-team deal -- and more than reasonable for us.

Still wonder why Houston is interested in Artest -- Battier seems like a guy that Rick would very much like and rely on. Then again, talentwise a Yao/Artest/TMac trio is just frightening given a coach who will unleash them.

In any case, would still leave them with Sura's ender, the two worthless young off guards, and the MLE to try to fill that PF hole. That turns into Webber and you suddenly have Houston having the best man from the old Kings, the Artest/Bonzi tandem from last year's Kings, our old coach. Oh, and two superstars/near superstars. Heck they even brought back the man we were talking about as a possible 6th man here (James) to be their 6th man/Bobby over there.
