SacBee --- Kings Crumble Against Nets; Salmons Grumbles

SLAB

Hall of Famer
Upset by his falling production, swingman John Salmons points the finger at the Kings coaching staff and the plays they have called since the return of Kevin Martin, whose scoring is soaring as Salmons' dwindles.

John Salmons said:
"They call the plays, so it's up to them,"

"It's drastic," Salmons said when asked about the difference in the number of plays being called for him. "It's just ridiculous."

It's been four games...
Give me a break.

Problem is salmons can't play team basketball. Kevin gets his points in the flow of the game, doesn't force too much, and is getting better at creating for other. Salmons generally scores in iso situations and far too often dribbles into trouble.... and can't create for others. Salmons kills our offense, even when he has it going.

I can't blame the guy, hes carryed us all season then all of a sudden he gets half as many shots as hes used to. Hes been efficient scoring all year so he should still get his 15 shots a game. I also think he needs to look to set other people up more. John can drive the lane any times he wants, he needs to kick it out to Brad more often and other wing players.I would like to see Salmons asts go up.

Carried us to 8 wins? He was getting more shots because he DOESN'T PASS THE BALL. Now some of his shots are going to kevin, but I would rather see kevin shooting an open 3 off dribble penatration or a 15 footer coming off a screen than salmons pounding the ball 80 times before forcing up some garbage with 3 players all over him.

Heheheheheh...

This is the ultimate textbook example of someone literally cutting off their nose to spite their face. It exposes Salmons' mind set for everyone to see and it's not a pretty sight for the majority of the fan base actually relieved to see part of our future (Martin, just to clarify for those who - like JS - must have missed the memo) out there contributing. I'd just as soon see Salmons' posterior on the bench the rest of the year if this is going to be his attitude. Let Garcia have his minutes and give the bench time to Donte. Let the kids get to know how to play with each other now.

Get well soon, Spencer, and bring the kids back. Shame on John Salmons...for making the comment to begin with but double-shame on him for making it to the media. If he has a legitimate gripe he needs to take it up with the coaches. If he just wants to whine and make excuses, he needs to take it up with a representative of the clergy. Either way, airing out something like this to the press is generally pretty much as useful as actually buying the one-way ticket out of town. I hope he's renting his house and not buying it...

I don't think Salmons is a bad guy, I just think he has a black and white view of the world. He is either the center of the Kings universe or he is an outcast. Either he's getting the ball every possession or he's not getting his number called. You even see it possession to possession! Either he is driving to pass or driving to shoot. He doesn't ever adjust on the fly. He needs to calm down and be happy with middle ground.

And that's your armchair psychology for the day.

:mad::rolleyes:

No surprise. You could see it yesterday. Martin was on fire, hitting EVERYTHING. And 2nd half begins, John panics because he's not the focus. He forces it, and misses. Twice.

Here's the problem with John: He is not a team guy. Never has been, and who know's if he ever will. He thinks he is in Lebron/Kobe category and thinks that we all should believe that too.

The reason he sucked last year off the bench and now is wallowing in his self-pity is simply this..

The reality of it is, is that if John has to come off the bench, or be the 2nd or 3rd option, or even pass in a clutch situation.. -- He's basically worthless.

Yah and without John we prolly wouldnt have any wins right now. Id rather see Martin shoot too but Salmons is an effective scorer aswell. He needs to get his shots. Plus we need to keep his trade value up.

I actually agree with the last part of this. Seems to me it would be better to make him look like a great player and solid citizen instead of killing his production and making him look like a cancer in what is already a lost season.

Uh, I think the quotations to the media by John himself is making him look like a cancer. Da** him.

Ugh, Salmons...

There are ZERO teams in the NBA that should be giving him the role he had in the offense. ABSOLUTE ZERO. Not here. Not the Timberwolves. Not even the Thunder. If he had hit anything last night, maybe he would have gotten more shot attempts, but if he expects that just because he was putting up nice numbers for the worst team in the NBA (without Kevin) then he can expect that to continue once we actually get talent on the squad? Hell no.

Oh please, please I hope he gets traded before the deadline and I’m crossing my fingers that somehow John keeps getting his points up, so he’d be much easier to trade. Geoff, you really need to work your magic this year.

I hope other gms don’t realize that Salmons has to be “the man” in order to produce. I can’t stand “me” guys. And I don’t want this type of attitude to be contagious to the other younger guys. This isn’t how they should be acting.

I don’t want to make anything big out of this quote, but Martin also added…

It's not tough (to keep everybody involved in the offense)," Martin said. "It's just like with any team. Somebody has the hot hand, and it shouldn't be hard for any guy to go off because it's not like the guy is being selfish or anything.

btw: I don’t hate John cause he seems nice off the court, I just don’t like him as a player for our team. He doesn’t get the team concept, has no understanding that he still can play well and contribute to this team without being the center of attention. And he publicly gets frustrated.

Not shocked, John seems to have been sulking since Kev came back. Shame really, since the two COULD be quite effective together.

the anger is in the wrong place. im not seeing enough anger over losing and lack of defense.

this is a problem salmons will run into on any other team. he's not a #1 option. and if his touches are limited because of martin they'll definately be cut in half on a team thats chasing the playoffs or not far from it. what is wrong with the personalities coming through sacramento. artest, then thomas, now salmons. its not all about them. i dont care if salmons was scoring 20 a game. i got news for ya guy, i'd rather pick up an important role player from a championship team than to pick up a 20ppg scorer on an 8-29 team.

"He has to learn how to be with the other guys out there on the floor," Natt said.

I just wish Natt would have stayed quiet on this comment. This whole thing should have been kept indoors in-between coach and player.

In the end, they agreed on one key point: Salmons and Martin have the potential to be a dangerous duo.

"I see and envision a great opportunity for having a double punch now that we have Kevin back and doing his thing," Natt said.

I’d rather see Kevin and Cisco on the floor at the same time. I love their chemistry and I don’t think Salmons and Kevin have the same effect.

I love our Bash Brothers.
