Sac/Indiana/Philadelphia

It's been a while since I've posted any trade threads in the personnel forum, and I'm liking this team so much it might behoove them to stay pat until their whole team is healthy, but I just can't help myself.

I was looking at the Philadelphia situation and wondering where a good fit for Elton Brand would be. The 76ers are trying to be a run and gun uptempo/athletic team and he's more of a plodding low post scorer at the moment for them. I still feel that Brand has a ton of talent, and salary aside there would be several teams very interested in him. Could the Kings get in on that deal as part of a three team trade?

Kings Out

Kenny Thomas - Expiring
Andres Nocioni

Kings In

Troy Murphy
Roy Hibbert

76ers Out

Elton Brand

76ers In

Kenny Thomas - Expiring Contract
Andres Nocioni

Pacers Out

Troy Murphy
Roy Hibbert

Pacers In

Elton Brand

Why The Kings Do This: This trade would give the Kings a solid 4 big rotation, 3 of which are young and play defense, and all of which rebound well and score. While they'd take on the salary of Troy Murphy through 2010/2011, they would also get the rookie contract of Hibbert and shave off 2 years of Nocioni's contract. + Shot blocking, + rebounding, + depth at the PF and C positions, and opens up time at the SF spot for Donte, Omri, and Francisco when he returns from injury.

Why The Kings Don't Do This: Perhaps they could get something better with Kenny Thomas's expiring contract given the arctic economic climate (Pau Gasol 2.0 :D). Andres is also playing really well and bringing the team a swagger and toughness that might be hard to maintain if he is traded.

Why The 76ers Do This: They are falling over themselves to unload Brand's albatross contract. He isn't fitting the playing style of the team, and his numbers have declined the past few seasons. They would be getting financial flexibility with KT, as well as another scrappy defensive player to pair with Iverson (Nocioni is only averaging 2 rebound less than Brand currently ). It also helps that Nocioni's contract actually goes down each year, salary relief would be Philadelphia's first priority here.

Why the 76ers Don't Do This: Perhaps they think they can get more for a 30 year old ex all-star undersized power forward and hope to get youth, draft picks, and/or more athletic than Nocioni and K9.

Why the Pacers Do This: The Pacers have a solid, deep team, but they really lack another star to help out Danny Granger. They have plenty of depth up front to give up a couple pieces, and a slow tempo that Brand would excell at during this stage of his career (see Jermaine O'Neal...). Perhaps Brand can teach some of his tricks to Indiana's young bigs too :).

Why the Pacers Don't Do This: Roy Hibbert looks to be a keeper, and having a 7'2" young, skilled center is a commodity rarely wasted in the NBA. They might think the asking price is too high, which is why they'd want to throw in Troy Murphy's large deal to decrease the salary hit.

Kings New Line-up:

PG Tyreke Evans/Beno Udrih/Sergio Rodriguez
SG Kevin Martin/Francisco Garcia/Ime Udoka
SF Donte Greene/Omri Casspi/Francisco Garcia/Ime Udoka
PF Jason Thompson/Troy Murphy/Jon Brockman/Sean May
C Spencer Hawes/Roy Hibbert/Jason Thompson

I don't think the Pacers are unhappy with either of those guys, and cosiderably like Hibbert. Adn one of the things Brand has not been able to do in Philly is play in a running system, whch the Pacers use.

I would considerably like Hibbert as a third big, but I don't think the ghost of Elton Brand is going to pry a good young big away from much of anybody at this point. He's become one of those nearly unmoveable old vets with a huge contract. Think of the deal we finally accepted for Webb, who was better than Brand ever was and was avergaing 20-10-5 and coming off player of the month honors for a playoff team. Then you have Elton Brand, averaging 12 and 7 for one of the most disappointing teams in the league.

And to think he was such a hot commodity in free agency just 2 years ago. My how quickly opinions change...

Instead of getting too complicated with three teams and god knows how many players, why not just trade Nocioni for Jeff Foster. Foster is a career backup center for the most part. His rebounds per minute are good. He's relatively cheap and his contract runs shorter than Nocioni's.

That's not an impact move though. I don't truly beleive in Thomas, but the point has been made in the past that we don't really need a low level patch that adds 2-3 wins or some such. If we make a move for frontcourt help, it should be a BIG move. We're not 2-3 wins from anything. But get me a guy who can add 5-8 and maybe we could threaten something. Get me one who could add 10 games and I KNOW we can threaten one. But in any case, we're a stud short up front.

I hope the early season rumors of talks were accurate, not so muc for the talks themselves, but jsut because it would indicate an excitement in the front office and realization that something biggish getting done could really make this a quick and huge turnaround.

I tend to agree but the only problem is that I don't think there is a stud up front that would be available to get.

If Bosh is up for trade by all means go all guns blazing to try and pair him up with Tyreke but I am not sure that a stud is available. A good defensive tall like Okafor maybe but a stud (as in all-star) big, I am not so sure about.

If we can add Bosh now and pair him with Tyreke we make the play off easy this year and with a massive potential to grow further.

I don't disagree with your point. I'm all for making a big splash move. I just didn't think this one was realistic, and the more teams you get involved the harder it is to get a deal done. My thought was simply a short term move to give us a little insurance right now. But I'd rather go for a more permanent move..
