S&T Andre Igoudala for Jason Thompson and Marcus Thornton

But if we clear enough cap space (amnestying Salmons would do it) we could absorb $15M in a sign-and-trade but only send Thornton back. The question on a S&T sending only Thornton is not whether we can give Iggy a big enough contract, it's whether we can convince Denver that they'd rather have Thornton than just let Iguodala walk (obviously somewhere else, because we couldn't offer $15M without the S&T).

Anyway, I can't speak for how much kingwin would be willing to pay Iguodala, but it's logically consistent to not want to give up more than Thornton in the S&T and still to give Iguodala a full-sized contract.
It would appear as though I stand corrected.

With apologies to kingwin, however, you'll forgive me if I decline to give him credit for having put that much thought into it.

I assumed Iggy gave up the final year of his contract to get one more big contract before he started declining. I think he would rather get 10mil for 4 years as opposed to 15mil for one year with a question mark after that. Having a top three of Cuz/Reke/Iggy is a playoff contender. If BMac is as good as we hope and we add a shotblocker, in 3 years you are contending for a championship. Iggy has been pretty durable over his career so I would not hesitate to give him a 4 year contract even if he is on the older side. You have to be willing to approach the cap if you want to contend and Iggy is the type of complimentary piece you put some money out for.

With Mclemore, it makes sense Thornton should be traded. But JT is too valuable to this team. He is a great team first guy that can rebound and has improved his offensive game last year. He is a good role player on an eventual contender that we are building towards. His salary is extremely reasonable considering what some teams are paying bigs. I would not include JT in such a deal for a B level player like Iggy.

Literally. No. Chance.

Don't worry, I've been called a jerk and a blowhard (and other less nice names), but I've never not owned it when I was proven wrong. And I'm hardly going anywhere.
While I haven't yet seen any official numbers regarding Speights' contract, if what's floating around is legit, I'm prepared to say that I was, at least, half-wrong. I say half because I said a guy like that would only opt out to either take less money or play for a contender. Now, Speights' sense of a contender may be different from mine, so if Golden State ends up being second-round-and-out for the second straight year, then I'll definitely be all the way wrong. But, I still have a chance to save face, if they get to the WCF.

I know, don't hold my breath, right?

You know, considering the manner in which Golden State exploded onto the playoff scene this year taking the Spurs to 6 games in the semifinals without David Lee and generally looking pretty impressive doing it, and their addition of Andre Igoudala already this off-season, it's probably fair to call the Warriors a contender at this point. I'll give you partial credit anyway. :) Though I find it particularly ironic (in a not fun kindof way) that they went out and added the exact two guys I wanted us to sign while we traded Tyreke for Vasquez, signed Landry, and flirted with Monta Ellis. They also drafted the guy I wanted last year (Harrison Barnes). Almost makes me wonder why I waste any energy at all trying to think of ways to make our team better. The sit back and watch what happens crowd have got the right idea I'd say.
