Roy Hibbert\Thabeet

Rumors are saying that Indiana or Houston is gonna offer something to Marc Gasol that Memphis could not match. If either team gets Gasol, do you think it's worth to go hard to trade for Hibbert\Thabeet? I think JT would be a good trade piece for either. Both players are young and could provide the length we need to pair with Demarcus.

The Thabeet project has failed. He is never going to be worth anything as he is far too limited to even get on the floor. He may be a good shotblocker but he's a terrible defender.

Hibbert on the other hand would be a decent fit, don't see any chance of it happening though.

I doubt Houston gives up on Thabeet regardless of whether they do or do not sign anybody. They just traded for him at the deadline, and I think one of the conflicts between Rick and the front office was that he was trying to win, and they wanted him to give time to the kids (we know that one first hand). I also think that one of the reasons they hired McHale was so that he could mentor the young bigs like Thabeet, Patterson and Hill, mildly talented as that bunch may seem to us. If he were available under your scenario, sure, I have a longstanding interest there. But at this point you would have to look at his acquisition as sort of a second Whiteside longshot rather than anything guaranteed as a Daly replacement. And as such we might just opt for Whiteside getting his shot.

Hibbert would probably cost quite a bit. The other thing with him is that he's not mobile, so you might not be able to put him next to Cousins because neither could guard the mobile PFs. But if you could, he's a skilled guy as well as a shotblocker, and I would be up for the experiment. Just a question of how much he would cost that would be the problem. We wouldn't be the only team competing for his services if he were available.

I want no part of thabeet. I thought he would be a bust before he was drafted and haven't seen anything to change my mind about him. Hibbert is more interesting though. I thought his lack of mobility coming into the NBA would keep him from ever being more than a solid back up center. However, he lost some weight between his 1st and 2nd season and gained enough quickness to be a viable starting center in the NBA. I still wouldn't want to give up too much for him though.

I stated prior to the draft that Thabeet wasn't ready to play in the NBA, and that I didn't know if he would ever be ready. He came to basketball late, with little basketball knowledge. At UCONN they were able hide his deficiences by just letting him stand in the paint and play goalie. You can't get away with that in the NBA. Apparently he has a very slow learning curve, and at this point, I'm very sceptical he'll ever be anything more than a part time bench player, if that!. I wouldn't trade JT for two Thabeets at this time. JT at minumun is a solid bench player, and possible starter.

Hibbert is a nice player, but not the type of player we need at this time. He's not very mobile, slow to rotate, and suffers in isolation defensively away from the basket. He is however a decent post defender. I wouldn't mind having him on the team, but the price would be too high for what we would get in return.

Yep JT has worked hard and found his niche here off the bench. Him and JJ are going to a solid combo backing our starters
