Rock Band Draft - Round 6 (Wrap Up)

#1
The concept is a Rock Band Draft Thread in which each participant gets five picks. The band members can be drafted in any order. Each member needs to be assigned all duties upon pick. Members can only play one instrument with the exception of percussionists (can have range of typical and exotic percussive instruments) and keyboards (can play both piano and synthesizers). Any and all members can be assigned back-up vocals. The lead singer can play any instrument as well. Complex synthesizers that can duplicate any instrument count as one instrument. The member actually has to able to perform assigned duties. All members will be considered in their prime, unless stated otherwise in your wrap-up. If you wish to choose 5 tuba players, so be it.

The overall concept is how the band will sound in a live concert, no studio type editing/production will be considered as voting criteria. Song writing capabilities will not be a factor, however some voters may take it into consideration as a personal preference.

After the draft, each participant will post a full description/wrap-up of their band and explain how it all works together, what the set will sound like and any special features that they would like to be considered by voters. They will also name the band at this point. This will be in order of the second round of the draft to avoid duplicate names. Then voting will commence similar to the other draft threads we have had.

I will be commisioner. The rules will be pretty lax as this is meant to be more fun than competition. The "Rock" band title is about as loose as "Classic" is in the car draft. Any musical style will be permitted.

Wow, was not expecting this. I was actually hoping for a lower pick in this draft, as I most likely will not get my first 2 picks I hoped for anymore. Anyway, my first pick is:

Jimi Hendrix - Lead Guitarist + Backup Vocals (From The Jimi Hendrix Experience)

What can I say? The best guitar player EVER, and he's a decent singer as well. Almost picked someone else, but that person was replaceable in my band, and Jimi really wasn't.

EDIT: Jimi will be assigned Backup vocals, but will sing lead occasionally with my lead singer occasionally singing backup, just to switch things up a bit

I see that, based on popularity alone, but backup vocals? I do not see it.
I never really explained that one yet. It's not so much backup vocals as it is alternate vocals. I was gonna pick a lead singer at some point to sing most of the songs, and occasionally Jimi would sing lead to switch things up a bit. He can, after all, sing. But make no mistake, I picked him because of his awesomeness at playing guitar

Guitar and image... who doesn't know what Hendrix looked and dressed like?

#11
What does that have to do with this draft?
I am sure some voters will take that as criteria. After all, it is a major factor in the real music industry. Remember, this is about a live show, so image, stage presence and charisma will have influence on the voters. Jimi had all that and then some.

I see. I think I may have misinterpreted NoBonus's point. In any case, I hope all the band members don't have to dress the same, because that might be a problem :D

Wow, I've never been in the early part of a draft. Glad to be here. This pick is fairly easy for me.

Eric Clapton - Lead Guitar / Back-up Vocals (From solo years)

Here's one reason why...just watch this solo

"McCartney is listed in Guinness World Records as the most successful musician and composer in popular music history, with 60 gold discs and sales of 100 million singles." (wiki)

Paul McCartney: Bass and backup vocal (Beatles, Wings, solo artist)

dammit, there goes my bass #1. I was contemplating taking it too, but that wouldve been 3/3 first pick Beatles in all these music drafts. I don't want to be too predictable.

I was untainted by the Beatles monopoly from past drafts as this is my first go at it. Sir Paul was the very top of my draft board so I'm psyched.

Nice line-up. I recognize Eric, Paul and Ringo, some of the other cats look familiar. Who is the young dude on acoustic? He must have been stoked to play with those guys no matter who he is.

Ever check the Ringo Star and his All-Star Band gigs? I caught a show on one tour and it was saweet.

That's George Harrison's son (can't you see the resemblance?). It was at the show for George a year after he died.

Dang, not a good spot! I guess I'll sit back and see how things unfold before deciding what direction to take the band with my two straight picks. Hendrix going first isn't surprising, but interesting to see we're keeping it classic so far.

You know, because of the need for band members to interact, I think being on the end of the snake here could have more value than in the lists drafts. You will have to be lucky to get one of your favorite people to start, but you can make sure that your picks match in tone. Harder when you're in the middle where the guy/gal you need to complement your first pick may not be there for the second.

MY band is absolutely doomed to toil in obscurity because Im assuming my musical tastes are slightly different from most people here...

Actually my first pick...Might appeal to the masses...I think for a successful band you need to have an over the top, charismatic wonder at the helm.

With that...The frontman of my beautiful rock/harmony/ska/punk band is going to be...

FREDDIE MERCURY!
Lead vocals + occasional piano.
---Queen---

As I said...Charisma = sales...But charisma + talent = uuber sales.

On vocals...!

fantastic - perhaps the best rock frontman ever

I have to disagree about Freddie Mercury being one of the best front man ever. I know my opinion doesn't go along with the popular vote, but Queen never really proved to me that they can sing anything more than rock anthems and funky butt jingles......

The heart of any band is the rhythm section, and I may be the only one who plans on filling mine first.

First pick:
Keith Moon - Drums, backing vocals (Associated act: The Who)

Keith innovated "lead drums", often eschewing basic rhythms for grandiose fills throughout the song. His name frequently comes up in the discussions of rock's best and most distinctive drummers.

Additionally despite his limited vocal ability he was bound and determined to sing on The Who's tracks - the rest of the band would famously banish him from the studio but he would always find a way to sneak in the studio somehow and get heard somewhere or another. Keith will get his shot to sing to his heart's content in this new band.

Keith was also a notorious partier and his destructive personality also manifested itself on stage where he was known to smash his drumset at the end of a set.
