Tonight I think we saw a great example of how a coach's decision at the end of the game can really go either way. Either it's a great call, or everyone is calling for his job. I'm sure there were a lot of people on this forum waiting to blast Adelman for not fouling tonight to try to salvage some more time...Adelman decides to play it straight up and look how it turned out. Great call tonight by Adelman.

Just to add a little more perspective to this kind of discussion, right now on spurstalk.com, they have a thread titled "This loss in on POP".

Adelman's reaction at the end of the game really shows how much he loves this team. I for one, hope he decides to stay. And this is not because we just won.

^^ lol

seriously there was a lot of things adelman could've been criticized for on the last play.

why didn't he foul? why didn't he take a timeout? etc. etc.

but kevin made the shot so it's all good :D

i've always been FOR adelman staying. i really hope he comes back :)

and yes, this has been said many times, but his reaction was just FANTASTIC! :D

Can you say "Blame game"?

Grant Napear and others like him have made it an artform to find a scapegoat and crucify him...

Grant was warming up tonight to call for Bonzi's head.

It makes me ill sometimes that people have to microanalyze every single moment and figure out which ONE thing caused a win or a loss. I can play the "blame game," too. I blame too much time spent in front of a computer screen or X-Box and not enough time spent on an actual basketball court.

:D

He bares some of the responsibility just like Manu. Parker should have been the ball handler(especially if Bibby was on him) or shouldn't have been in the game(Horry in giving them another shooter). They would have then had, Barry, Finley, Horry on the perimeter, with Duncan inside and the ball handler. Then they could have spaced the floor a lot better. And since Duncan was so hot, he could have gotten the ball in the post with max room to move.

Tonight was won by Mike Bibby, Ron Artest, Bonzi, and of course KEvin. (it was pretty well rounded) I didnt have an opinion on the last play. I didn't imediately call for a foul, I was perplexed. It was a very differnt situation than Game 2. And I am really glad Bibby responded to the mass of criticism that he recieved for his defensive brain fart... he won the game his his defense tonight

and you know what? You still might have lost!

Of course. Nothing is a sure thing. But the odds are better with that. It's just like the odds are better of you winning a series if you have home court. Or winning the first two games of a series. The odds are better, but it doesn't guarantee anything.

I'm getting a fuzzy image in my head...

Possibly a peek into the future...

There's... I dunno, it's cloudy... a stick (?) somehow involved...

No... it's a lance. Definitely a lance...

Does it also involve a creature indigenous to a small island state in SE Australia?

Possibly, but it's hard to tell.

I see a lance, and a sudden purple flash, then it all goes blank.

Not to agree with Grant or anything, but getting technicals is dumb, dumb, dumb. Every point counts - every one. This is 2 games decided on last second shots by one point or less in regulation.

Please stop getting technicals. I want the players to give us every chance to win the series. Giving away points isn't helpful in pursuing that goal.

haha, i love this thread title. i'm really happy for rick tonight, they got the stop that he believed the team was capable of getting.

it was really good to see him excited at the win.

I didn't blame the last loss on Adelman and I don't give him credit tonight.

If anyone was to "blame" for the loss the other night, it was Bibby. He played awful defense the entire game and was not contributing. If I "blame" anyone for the win tonight, the honor would also go to Bibby. He stepped up defensively and really helped out.

I'm not and hav e never been a fan of the style of basetball Adelman brings. I don't like the free-reign he gives to players.

It was a risky, gutsy way to approach the end of the game- if the Spurs get a shot off and miss, we have to call a quick TO and get a two or three of an inbounds with a few seconds left. If they score, we have to get a three. If they hit a three, we're screwed. Of course, if we get a turnover....

Adelman can only set the stage, it's up to the players to remember their lines. Tonight, it worked. Tuesday, it didn't.

I was calling for a substitution every time Miller or Garcia was out there, and he adjusted the lineup and went with the best thing going. I've said it before, and I'll say it again- Adelman deserves a new contract. He's done a great job.

Sorry folks but this team won lost night in spite of Adelman. Why Miller played basically the entire 4th and Shareef sat while Duncan brought them back is beyond me.

Because everyone deserves a chance to wake up, and that he did. Just as Shareef woke up in game 2, game 3 Brad got to ride it out.
