I am sorry but I just CANNOT buy this theory that JJ would be a good fit here. He would fail in the same manner that Martin failed but the only difference would be that Johnson would be getting double the money that Martin is getting.
JJ needs the ball to be effective, to create for himself and others. That is exactly the type of player that you do NOT want next to Reke. It just cannot work if you have two guards that are 22+ppg players in the same back court.
I know JJ is a better fit than Martin in terms of being able to handle the ball, pass and rebound but he is a player who uses up a lot of possesion to get his stats and thats not a bad thing, but its a bad thing when your other guard is Evans.
The best fit next to Tyreke is precisely the type of players that we already have on the roster, namely Beno and Cisco. Both can shoot, pass and they don't need the ball in their hands to be effective, and neither is a 20ppg scorer on a regular basis.
Our backcourt does not need thinkering with. Its set. You might want to sign a 3rd PG in case Beno or Reke miss a game or few with injuries but in terms of main rotation guys, we are set.
Now front court is entirely other matter.
I watched Kentucky Vs Tennessee the other day. Obviously Wall is a potential HOF in the makings. Cousins is a beast on the boards but he just lacks something. Conditioning does seem to be of some concern. His lateral quickness and agility is not great. He does appear to have a great wingspan and knows how to crach the boards. Blocked a couple of shots but doesn't appear to be an intimidating presence in the pain defensively.
Despite having an "average" game, he still managed to have a great double-double and was instrumental in brining Kentucky within a whisker of sneaking out an unlikely victory.
