Realistic "wish" list?

sadly, i agree ...

I think it may well be a three-team race out west (between LA, Seattle and Phoenix).
yeah, i don't think we will be competing for championship this year, or the next really, i mean we will compete, but we won't be winning it ... i hope i'm wrong, but i just see other teams being stronger, and us being less strong than we were ... ; (

Courtney Paris, and Maya Moore will be out there for someone to draft someday ... let's get both of them, oh, and Devanei Hampton too ... ; )

More Draft picks in 2009

You know what I would really like to get, that realistically we should be able to get.

More draft Picks for 2009. I am resigned that we are a hot mess for this year. But once we bring people in for camp, we can start to unload non useful pieces for draft picks.

Then Next year we have bargaining tools. We can either draft someone, bundle picks and move up, or trade those picks in 2009 for picks in 2010.

Wash rinse repeat.

I think we're definitely at some sort of transitional moment right now. I may be in the minority on what Seattle looks like when that team actually hits the floor, I'm not convinced they are all that better than they were last year and have a question mark in much the same way in Swoopes as we have in DeMya. And if it's a three team race between those three and San Antonio isn't even mentioned, then by definition we technically aren't even in the picture on paper. I know I don't believe that, especially if they get somebody of veteran quality to fill the Yo void.

I also think we're constructed right now a little bit better than other teams in transitional moments. Make that a lot better. I also agree tho, whether that is championship material in 08, I don't think so, but I'm cool with being competitive until we return to championship worthy.

We'll see soon I suppose what we have left in 09 to work with, because if they are intent on possibly making a move to get somebody to replace Yo this year, it may cost us something either in this year's draft or next year's. Which will definitely play into how we use the picks we have if we want to get a pg. There will be more early-mid first round pgs next year along with another good crop of posts.

Have We Conceded to Reality?

It sounds like this group has conceded to reality. I'm not quite sure I am ready to "not" contend this season. Maybe circumstances say other wise. In reality the core of this group (Ticha, Bekkah, Walker, Powell, Lawson, Newton) is different than in year's past. NO FRANCHISE PLAYER! But to me the real true difference is the teams around them. I am ready to concede that Phoenix will be in championship contention and that Los Angeles will be the most improved team in the conference and will make the playoffs.

That leaves San Antonio (sometimes I forget about them:rolleyes:), Seattle (I am not ready to anoint them anything until they show they can defend) and.......the Sacramento Monarchs fighting it out for two playoff spots. Just that alone will keep my attention for 2008. I have come to grips that there is a strong realistic possibility that the Monarchs may not even make the playoffs this season, unless, unless there is some miraculous move between now and Opening tip in late May.

Key Point Missed

Hey to all -

I have been following this thread. First would like to say that I am glad to see women's b-ball discussed on this level. Second ya'll are true fans!!

But I think that there is something missed in this discussion. Yea we can agree that Yo is in no way coming back... but we do have a wild card returning and that is Coach Jenny. How is she going to do this season? She took a team that went from Conf. finals in 2004 to champs in 2005 to fifth game of finals in 2006 to (with Coach Jenny) not making it passed the first round in 2007. Mind you that was with Yo, the leader of team. Now lets fast-forward to 2008.
You don't have Yo and now Coach Jenny has to try to coach DeMaya and transition her back into a team. Does she have the skills to do this???
Personally I do not think she has the gusto!!!

On a different point, Seattle as a contender has been questioned due to their lack of defense. Well hold on to your seats. And I'll check back with you all on this point in April :p...
