Random opening night observations

the NBA has also added two female refs (Lauren Holtkamp and Brenda Pantoja) on assignment for this season: link.
well if they are quality officials then right on. its not a sexism thing, Violet Palmer just flat out sucks. i don't care if she were male, female, giraffe, alien, etc. she's horrible and shouldn't be officiating anywhere near the NBA level

Agreed. Why is it so difficult to go out and simply evaluate, then hire the best talent for the job? What's rediculous is that I've seen many many high school refs, who are better than some current NBA refs

What a great experience last night! I haven't had that much fun at a kings game in a long long time. I was giving high fives to everyone around me. My voice is not doing so well today though lol.

Let's not make this a one time experience guys, let's keep STA rockin all year.

Heck even the atmosphere in the parking lot after the game was electric. I'm still fired up!

yeah, I just thought it worth mentioning because female refs might now be getting better representation in the NBA. as the article mentions, they are D-League refs the league felt were worth promoting and there wasn't even any press conference to announce it, suggesting that this is not an affirmative action thing, but that those two were actually the most qualified in the field.

To set the scene, Mike (of CrownDowntown fame) was sitting on the end of the row, I was next to him, the Captain was next to me, then a little girl and her mom, then drunk guy's better half, then drunk guy.

It could have been much worse for me. Initially I was four seats down from Warhawk (and much closer to Tetsujin). It turned out that Drunk Guy (on my left) was friends with the guy on my right. So I offered to move down two seats, then moved down again when girl and mom showed up so I didn't try to talk over them to Warhawk. Unknowingly, I removed myself four seats from the guy who ended up throwing up, instead of sitting next to him.

Knowing what I know, I probably would not have done the second move, though, because staying between the two groups would have eliminated the "cowbell drama" which took up a significant part of the second half. Things got pretty ugly even before the vomiting.

Yeah that was awful to smell down the stretch I was several rows behind him in row T
I don't know how you get that smashed on $10 beers, he probably was tailgating in parking lot all afternoon

Reminds me of a similar story in Chicago in 1975. Led Zeppelin, 6 rows from the stage. Guy behind me blows chunks all over the back of my seat. Stunk to high heaven. Oh well, could have been worse. I can still say I was there. Just like last night....which was AWESOME!!!!

Last night was great! I had no problems and everything was good.

Have to agree that: Big Cuz is the real deal. Best move of the offseason to sign him to the extension
I have a good feeling about Mclemore long term
Scoreboard was a issue. Found that frustrating.
The concessions were slow, but not as bad as others experiences
Loved our new seats and the fellow STH's around us. No Losers
Slowly.....Im beginning to accept Shaq into the family
Cracked up when the dancers came out dressed in Hindie fashion. I get it. It wasnt overdone so whatever...
Ranadive is brilliant
Katie Christensen is my future ex wife. RED is definitely her color.

Tomorrow beckons...

Ok, but how does having a single woman official in the NBA help women and/or the association in any way? I don't get the concept. What is the point?

Didn't say I agreed with the concept or the argument. I'm just saying it's the ONLY thing I could think of that would justify her still being around. OF course, I guess she could have incredibly incriminating pictures of high-ranking NBA officials...

in regards to the sound last night:
my tweet to @SacramentoKings bass in sound system obscuring voices. Hard to hear what's being siad.
response:
Sacramento Kings ‏@SacramentoKings30 Oct So sorry for the inconvenience. We will pass it along to the appropriate parties and try to remedy the issue ASAP.

  1. AND it did get a little better after that.

  1. Could you imagine that happening before? I was completely shocked.

Great dialog guys and gals!! Keep it up. Us 500 mile KingsFans need all the feedback we can get. Through a really dumb mistake failed to record game when I was out-of-town last night so you all are my game replay for the atmosphere there. thanks.

I thought this might be a good way for all of us who were there last night to share our thoughts with our fellow Kings fans who couldn't be there.

Here are my random observations:

*Violet Palmer still sucks
*David Stern is cool
*Shaq is bigger in street clothes than he is in uniform
*Ushers couldn't stop smiling and were all TOTALLY excellent
*Jumo JUMBOTRON great but it had lots of trouble keeping the score display accurate
*Around the league scores kept locking up
*Crowd was quiet at times, partially because it was totally overwhelming for a lot of us...I never really knew what "dream come true" meant until last night
*Kings fans are COOL!
*The place looked CLEAN and SHINY and LOVED
*DFC is TFA (totally f***ing awesome)
*GV has excellent court vision
*GV/IT are an incredible tag-team duo
*Marcus Thornton just looked tired and uninvolved for the most part. I would have rather seen Jimmer, since his lack of defense wouldn't have been an improvement over what MT was and wasn't doing.
*ENTIRE experience, including dinner before we even got to STA, was a sea of Kings fans...purple everywhere.
*As awesome as DFC looked (based on reading the game thread), he was infinitely more awesomer in person. HOLY CRAP! (In the good way.)
*Stomping on the wooden floors still rocks the old barn to the foundations.
*Mike Malone is an honest-to-God real NBA head coach.
*All the activities outside the arena before the game were also a sea of purple and great to start out the night.
*Our illustrious board owner even got his face painted. Unfortunately, I neglected to get a picture.
*Finally got to meet Rockmeister after all these years. :)
*One News10 cameraman kept coming back to my son-in-law and granddaughter. I haven't watched the game yet, but I'll be curious to see how much of the footage made it to the screen.
*It was a great night to be Kings fan. :)
Another observation, and I am surprised I actually missed this originally, is that the cell phone/wireless coverage was not working well inside the arena. I had issues connecting to the wireless network, as well as my mobile network...Never was an issue during previous seasons. Hopefully will be fixed soon...

ive had that problem over the last few seasons. was the same last night

You might want to let them know where you were sitting and what your problem was. We were in 106 and had no problem with wireless service.

I may just do that....it may have been our location (we were actually in the very last row of the arena, to be honest with you, in section 213...
