Raja Bell

It's been discussed in other threads, let's give it one if it's own. This guy seems like he would be a good fit, depending on how cheap he comes. Defense, 3pt. shooting, ball handling, playoff experience, character, clutch performer. Am I missing anything? Oh yeah, he clotheslined Kobe.

I say if we can get him for something like 2yrs at 3 million a year, second year team option, we do it. Would he come that cheap?

Or-- maybe our rotation is set, and Brockman completely takes on that character/leadership/setting the tone role. I do think he could accomplish that. He's actually older than most guys on the team, and he's not a "rookie" anymore. Or, do we need to have one of our rotation players play that role? Or, is Raja too much of a SG when all we really need to add is a 3rd string point guard for the league minimum?

That way you might just find your SG of the future. But Bell would be a good fit on a temporary basis until find the right guy long term.

He wasn't all that impressive in the Summer League last year. I remember watching him in hopes that the Kings might get lucky with an undrafted player, but came away disappointed. When he went on to play well for Utah, I just had to scratch my head in wonder.

The main thing that bothers me about Bell is that he only played in 6 games last season. Does anyone know why?

He started the season on charlotte and had a wrist injury he was going to play through. He was then traded in the sjax deal and opted for surgery i have no idea why either. If he comes cheap im all for it but I really dont see the sudden infatuation with him around these parts. I also dont remember seeing him hit many clutch shots in his career either. I personally think its best if we avoid spending all together and look on these summer league rosters for a hidden gem.

His age doesn't bother me if all were thinking of is a year or two. He's a decent shooter and a good defender. He also handles the ball pretty well and is a decent to good passer. As I said, I wouldn't get too excited about him, but I wouldn't be disappointed either.

Thought Brewer might be returning to Utah, but probably not after this. If Orlando matches Redick, maybe Chicago goes after him, but I wouldn't mind if we were interested as well.

I like Brewer, but unfortunately the one thing he can't do is shoot wih range. Wonder if that would color us uninterested?

Probably, and I understand. Ideally you can find someone who can play defense, handle the ball, and shoot. Brewer can only really do the first two, and the guys we have (Beno and Cisco) are more apt at the latter two. Wouldn't be bad to maybe cover a little more on D. Luckily, this is really the only major hole we have at this point. A lot easier to find the next Aaron McKie than the next CWebb.

Jazz bring back Raja Bell

SALT LAKE CITY (AP)—The Utah Jazz are bringing back Raja Bell(notes).
Agent Herb Rudoy said Bell and the Jazz agreed to a three-year deal worth around $10 million. The 33-year-old shooting guard just needs to pass a physical, which probably won’t happen until next week.

Rudoy said Bell is thrilled to be coming back to Utah, where his career took off during two seasons with the Jazz between 2003 and 2005. He was a favorite with both the fans and coach Jerry Sloan because of his defense.

“He loved playing for Jerry. He loved living in Salt Lake,” Rudoy said Thursday. “It was an easy decision for him to come back.”

The Jazz would not confirm the details on Thursday, but CEO Greg Miller told reporters Wednesday he was excited to have Bell on his way back. Miller was speaking at the Salt Lake City International Airport, where he was greeting new forward/center Al Jefferson(notes), picked up in a trade with Minnesota this week.

Jefferson was scheduled to appear at a news conference Thursday afternoon.

The return of Bell indicates the Jazz won’t be matching Portland’s front-loaded offer for restricted free agent Wesley Matthews(notes), who made Utah’s roster in training camp as an undrafted free agent and was a starter before the end of his rookie season.

Bell is a career 41 percent 3-point shooter who has averaged more than 10 points per game while playing for six different teams. He spent last season with Charlotte and Golden State, but played in just six games because of left wrist surgery.

The Jazz needed a shooter after free agent Kyle Korver(notes) signed last week with the Chicago Bulls, who had also just signed power forward Carlos Boozer(notes). Utah replaced Boozer with the bigger, younger Jefferson and the Jazz will have shooters in Bell, first-round draft pick Gordon Hayward(notes) and C.J. Miles(notes).
