Raiders @ S.F.

Well it was a fairly ugly game tonight, but the Niners managed to pull it out... didn't pay real close attention but...

- Alex Smith looked like a rookie out there. :)
- Niners o-line sucks... as usual (of course the real starters weren't all there)
- Rattay was by far the most polished of the QB's tonight and the reason the Niners were able to win (awesome throw to Lloyd to put the Niners up 7-6).
- The Raiders 3rd string QB showed some pretty impressive poise and made some pretty good throws.

So awesome that football season is back! I saw the game on the NFL Network. First half the Niners announcers were used, second half the Raiders announcers (Napear & Co.). Kind of strange getting annoyed at Grant for being biased. I'm usually used to hearing it in the Kings favor ;)

the boy Derrick Johnson and Mike Adams tore it up! Barlow.... stunk! Hicks.... IMPRESSIVE! Lloyd/Battle did good.... Saleem did good..... the Oline was pretty crappy..... our defense was not too bad but they definetely need some work......

Considering some of our offensive line still hasn't reported to camp, I was just glad to see some effort out there.

Hey, it's a win...it's better than we did in last year's pre-season!

NINERS!~!~!~!

We actually used to have some pretty good Niner gameday threads around here. Kind if peetered out a bit last year. Although I'm sure there was some high excitement over our two nail-biter wins over the Cards ;)

Rattay is a good, efficient quarterback.

However, if the O-Line can't improve its protection, it won't matter who is back there. When Rat is given time to throw (and kept off the injured list), he puts up good numbers. I'd be perfectly happy with him starting the season and easing Smith into the role.

lets not forget we were missing baas, smiley and newberry on the O Line.... it will be a little bit better when we get all the pieces back

And most importantly Jonas Jennings. I still can't believe that with their 50 million dollar man taking snaps, the 49ers started a seventh round pick tight end with a broken hand at LEFT TACKLE.

I sure hope Newberry is able to play this season and that his knee holds up. This team needs it's young offensive line players to stay healthy and gel. Harris, Smiley, Heitmann (who may have to start at center all season), Baas and Snyder can form a decent line if they can become a cohesive unit.

Rattay is good for stretches, and likes to trick you into believing that he is a real QB. Take the Arizona game last year at home- for most of the game he just sucks, completely. Crowd is even chanting for Dorsey. Then he comes out late and leads some great drives to grab the win. Next week, he's flat again and continues to suck for a while. Until I see him play an entire game well, I will not want him to be our primary starter.

We are still missing Newberry, if he can come back(50/50 they say) it will help a lot. Our Defense is nice, they were on the field nearly the entire first half and the "Explosive"(lol) Randy Moss and Co could not get it in.It was our defense that kept us in the game, as they will have to all season. Obviously Smith isn't ready yet, but that Rattay-Loyd connection looks pretty good. I agree Barlow looks unmotivated/weak still, and Hicks looked like the better back(at least for last night). We get some O-lineman back and our bad-*** tight end... and along with our Defense we should win more games this year and build towards something. Go Niners!

A Niner win is so rare these days. I'll take it even if it is the preseason. And I agreed with your guys' assessments of the game. Our o-line needs the starters back to be effective. It was very porous last night. Rat was solid and Smith was green (as expected). It'll be interesting to see the 3-4 defense develope through the pre-season.

I'm just happy we won, I have a feeling it's going to be a good year for us.
We're already on a roll:D
The fact that the Cowboys lost is an added bonus.
