Quincy Acy

All-Star
I was watching the Summer League scrimmage highlights and Acy caught my eye. Apparently he's working hard on that jumpshot(hit 1 in the vid), do you guys see this guy in the PF rotation this year? He does bring that defensive energy that we need from the PF spot, and has some length. If he can hit that spot up shot I could see him as a darkhorse to get big minutes at PF this season. He is only 23 and has a way to go as far as growth and seems to be well liked by all his teammates. Also being around Reggie Evans probably taught/will teach him a ton.

Yeah the jump shot would be a nice addition. Obviously whether or not he's in the rotation will probably have more to do with whether JT/Landry remain on the team. Other than that I think its also how defense that will be important. While he's a hustle energy guy his defense last season wasn't very good

He'll have a hard time finding minutes with Landry healthy. Landry can already shoot, and he's getting paid a lot to do that.

This PF thing is extremely hard to predict right now. If the season started today, who'd be the starter? Reggie Evans held on to that role at the end of last season. JT and Landry is a nice, yet overprices backup combo. Doesn't leave a lot of room for Acy. Still, not an ideal crop of players.

If Acy has a good summer league I could see him being dealt as a nice little sweetener type piece in a salary dump. JT still has some value around the league. Acy as a throw in could push a deal to completion.

I like Acy, but the things he's best at the Kings already have covered with other players.

I like Quincy's intensity and work rate but in reality he is a 5th big on a solid team. Energy and intensity guy!

While we are mentioning Landry, does anyone else get the feeling that they are not even looking to trade him and want to keep him as a 6th man with IT gone. Big gamble especially given the last season but I think the front office is taking it!

my concern is if JT is indeed the one they want to ship out. we then have no option at Backup Center

You are preaching to the converted! I have always seen and continue to see JT as just about an ideal 3rd big man (1st big off the bench). We were kicking ass and taking names against some of the toughest front courts in the league when we were rolling out the front court of rookie Cousins and Dalembert and having JT come off the bench and play 25 minutes per game. That front court had all sorts of potential then we pissed it into the wind. I would absolutely LOVE to recreate that in a similar form.

Unfortunately, they may have no choice. At present, I don't know what market there could be for him. Take a risk on a Sander's exchange if available? (I'd probably do it)

PDA has stated they may/will make mistakes. The making mistakes isn't the big thing, it's the ability to regroup from them that's important. The good ones seem to hardly miss a beat. We'll see, for me the jury is still out.

Also my concern. Last season JT was the primary defender of the other teams best Big most games. Reggie Evans does help with that. But with Gray gone currently there is not a experienced backup center on the roster besides JT. JT's contract is not out of like for a number 3 Big. JT can back up the 4 or 5 when foul trouble happens. Landry and JT can play together.

At this point unless a starter quality Big can be traded for I prefer to go with what the Kings have. The Elite shot blocker/defensive oriented Big may have to wait until the trade dead line or next off season.

I do not want to see a trade for trades sake. Also I don't want Cousins to be forced to defend the other teams best full size offensive player.

He's a solid team guy who brings it everywhere, at all times. He also fits right in with our young developing players, so I hope we can keep him and move someone else. Acy playing with Williams is interesting, in that you have a potential stretch 4 in Quincy and a power 3 in Derrick. Can certainly create some different looks and plays with matchups, if the offense is creative enough to allow for it.

His shot has always been underrated. I believe he can shoot the ball better than JT has in his best seasons. Acy has a nice touch, but isn't encouraged to shoot much in games, which doesn't allow anyone to get a flow and rhythm going.

He will make shots in Summer League and Preseason, where he will get some attempts. Maybe that will earn him the right to get some more consistent shots in the regular season,....but there's only so many shots to go around..and it makes it tough when there's higher paid veterans who are demanding to get theirs

Not to mention an actual semblance of plays being designed and executed well and on a consistent basis. Sometimes I wonder where we'd be if not for the stupid lockout and Westphal going to a "read and react" offense as a result of no proper training camp and preparation time. Assuming there was no clash between him and Cousins of course.

I was laughing at the notion of Acy taking jump shots...sure he can hit the occasional shot but we don't need that from him. He will only see spot minutes anyway I think, which is his role.
