Program Alert - GP on 1140 right now

Ahhh....vintage Geoff then. :p

He said he's off to the Ukraine first, I think!

It is a bummer they had said yesterday GP would be on Sportsline and he was on much earlier. I hope they replay it all later in the show....

Hoping to watch Tautvydas Lydeka or something?

Oh, wait, no, he's too big.

Hard to think of what GP has in mind, unless it's picking up some cheap FAs. We seriously need some of those. They do have kids as young as 18 playing in the Ukranian leagues, though, so maybe there's some amazing kid nobody's heard of yet?

Sounds like a ridiculously long shot, but we can always hope. If nothing else, Petrie gets a nice little vacation out of it. And I'm really sure that he needs one by now.

Grant just said that GP is off to Spain after the Ukraine, then one other country (couldn't remember). Mike said Latvia, but I think he was cracking wise in the background and wasn't being serious.

Spain? I hope he has a nice, long talk with Vlade while he's there!

Yeah, I hope we do bring Vlade as our bigs coach, we definately need someone and Vlade has some ties to Sac still with his restaurant and doing donation drives for the kids.

I hope we are not thinking of drafting Pau Gasol's little brother! He toughted as a late 1st round to 2nd round pick and we should hopefully be picking in the top 10.

Thiago Splitter is from there so maybe him. Maybe it's someone not even on the map. I was hoping to see that Russian kid we had, but decided to go back home instead last offseason....you know the 6'8" kid we got in the Skinner trade that not only brought us the highly desireable Potapenko! ;-)

if we brought in vlade it would make me the happiest kings fan in the world.. he's been my favorite player since i started watching basketball, first as a joke... then i actually started paying attention to him and found out he was actually pretty nasty.. anyways, i wouldnt mind trading down/trading for another pick for a guy like gasol, i hear good things...

Petrie will like his smarts, but he's got none of his brother's athleticism. Fit right in in the Vlade/Brad tradition. ;)

Petrie used the term "aggressive" in characterizing the Kings style of off season acquisitions to address their needs. I thought for him that was unusual. Also, siad he has a preference to hire a head coach who has at least "some" NBA coaching experience. That touched off the Reggie Theus for head coach discussion. Basically Grant said that he would be surprised if Terry Porter was not on the short list but the Maloofs may be interested in Theus. However, STRONG indication that Petrie will make the decisions....

Outside the crappy tie breaker today has been a good news day. Let the captain steer the ship!!!

And he's a freak. I wouldn't mind him on the Kings.

So we could trade Kevin for a big?

those guys are truly duplicative (heck draftexpress even explictly plists Rudy's hihg end as Kevin Martin). Neither will ever be a PG ro SF, so you pretty much just can't have them both unless you are drafting one guy to play 12min.

Just acquire as much talent as you can and do what needs to be done when the dust settles.

I wouldn't think Kevin Martin, from what I've seen elsewhere.

Smart, skilled. Good ball handler, passer, shooter. Not very strong or athletic, not a big defender. So maybe not Kevin Martin per se, but very much what we have an awful lot of already. He sounds just like someone who Petrie might want, which creeps me out.

I think there's a pretty strong chance the Maloofs may just step back and let Geoff Petrie do his job, at least for now. And the "aggressive" approach to acquisitions just MIGHT mean a green light from the Maloofs to do what it takes to turn this around.

I am cautiously optimistic for the first time in quite a while.

:)

I am steping off the optimistic train for now. I am boarding the wait and see boat this off season. I will let you know which way I go at the end of TDOS.
