Preseason Kings @ Blazers

Solid. I feel like they should make training camp longer so players have more time to familiarize themselves with their teams systems.

I too agree with this. I feel like training camp is way too condensed. Football starts way earlier, they have OTAs and then a month long camp it seems. Kings training camp felt like 10 days. Before camp they were playin in semi organized pickup games. I get that it helps them get into shape but they arent working with players they will play with.

Bad
Willie 5 boards in his last 40 mins played. Absolutely LOST on D. Lets slow players blow past him, today was Nurk over and over again.
Ben- I don't see how he is in the NBA, he has tiny hands, ver low bbiq, and bumbled the ball several times.
JJ- if its not a floater, he contributes next to nothing.
Okay
Giles had an off game. Looked flat on his shot, missed numerous point blank looks and got outmuscled down low. He contributes with his defense, rebounding nd passing.
Buddy- defense looked good (active), but his offense looked very un-buddy-like. Wild shots (one-hander) fading away on jump shots.
Good
Bagley is starting to gain confidence and it shows. He got swatted a few times but, hustles, is finishing better, letting the game come to him, grabbing boards nd trying to extend his range and use his right hand more often.
Yogi and mason did an admiral job. Mason hs had good assist numbers and is seeing the floor better. Hit some shots. Yogi is crafty and finds ways to score. He took a few bad shots but we needed offense at times.
Bjelly is a smart player grbbed 9 boards. Hit a real deep 3 and was active.

lots of one pass and shot going on, team needs a lot of work together to build that trust and chemistry. rotations need to be shortened in order to achieve that and I don't see Dave falling in line with that so there will be a lot of sporadic hoops that our eyes will behold

So I think until further notice the rotation with be this...

Fox/Ferrell
Buddy/Shumpert
Bogdan/Jackson
Bagley/Bjelica
WCS/Giles

The obvious thing right now is the dearth at SF. We've started Jackson there, or started two point guards and moved Buddy there in the meantime. Bogdan will eventually come back and I think we're looking at him taking that spot.

The question is, that pushes a guard out of the rotation. It won't be Fox or Buddy, and I doubt it will be Yogi, so that leaves Mason and Shumpert.

No matter what statlines he puts up, Mason just doesn't pass the eye test for me and I can't put my finger on why.

Shumpert? What makes you think he's going to be part of the rotation?

Because he played last night? He played backup wing minutes in a game that was sorta considered dress rehearsal, and was out again with something or other tonight.

Okay...let's just say I couldn't possibly disagree more. I do not see Shumpert getting much play and I strongly suspect he'll be gone before February. Let's see how it plays out.

It's not a question. Maybe you question it but I question you for that. Fox hit a lot of people for open shots that they missed last night. He just needs to have his coach put him in better spots like Tyreke was in his first year here, or Chris Paul is for his whole career. Screens need to be set to free Fox. He just needs to learn to be patient on those screens and to read a bit better. It's not a big thing that I see as a problem. He will get it. Not worried about him like you are.

Before you respond I will give you your response. Blah blah blah, historically bad rpm, inefficient mid range shooting, not a threat from range, didnt finish well last year at the rim, blah blah blah.

I prefer the eye test.

Well you keep your eye test and I will go with results to date this preseason

Mason 22.5 min
11.2 pts. 50.0 FG% 61.5 3P% 3.7 FTA
95.5 FT% 5.7AST 1.5 STL. 1.5 TO

Yogi 28.8 min
13.8 pts. 46.3 FG% 42.1 3P% 3.8 FTA
60.0 FT%. 2.5 AST 1.3 STL .3 TO

Fox 25.1 min
9.6 pts. 39.6 FG% 35.0 3P% 1.8 FTA
33.3 FT% 4.6 AST 1.0 STL 1.8 TO

Mason’s results are kicking the crap out of Fox’s results to-date. More points, way better percentages at all levels, more steals, better assist to turnover ratio. But go ahead and say there is no valid discussion.

Oh if you prefer to use advanced stats Mason is first on the team in PIE at 16.7, Yogi is 9th at 8.4 and Fox is 10th at 7.0

Sure we lost but we randomly gave Skal minutes instead of Giles/Bjeli/WCS so it's not like we were really trying to win out there.

Bagley has the quickest jump in the NBA since prime Shawn Marion, I would really love if they played Bjelly @ SF I know the guy looks slow (he is) and awkward but he contests on the perimeter with his length and his rebounding/IQ/shooting make up for it. The Timberwolves made the same mistake for 3 years playing him at PF (where he is useful) but the guy's full potential is at SF next to Bogi @ SG. This will also free up time from the back up PF position for Giles and Bagley to play more.

Love Yogi as well he will probably lead the team in charges drawn.

I really wish Vlade would get an actual serviceable wing player on the team instead of making the coaching staff play players out of position for poor roster construction.

I’m not a huge fan, but mason has played very well this preseason. Hard to imagine them rewarding him by taking him out of the rotation.

It would be a Kings thing to do to bench the guy who for preseason has the:
Highest PIE: 16.7
Highest TS%: 70.3%
Highest AST ratio: 37.4%
4th highest FTA: 3.8 (3.9 is 2nd)
