Post game thoughts 12/27

The Sixers have $28M in contracts that expire this year, and another $27-28M that expire the next year, plus multiple first round picks in each of those years. Unless their management totally wastes the opportunity, we are going to be very jealous of their roster a couple of years down the road.

They have a lot that I would trade for.
I'm not sure where you are getting your info, but from my count the Sixers have about $9 million coming off this year. The year after they have quite a large chunk coming off the cap - about $34M - but they also run into Iggy's contract year, which won't eat up all of their space, but will be substantial.

It is correct that Martin doesn't get as many minutes as you'd expect for someone with his stats. Makes no sense to me. Especially when the game is at a critical point and we take out Kevin and put in... whoever played well in practice.

I also wonder what happened to Ronnie Price since I don't see Douby doing a darn thing better.

If it's "getting young guards time on the court to develop" then why one and not the other? Or why not just start Price, Douby, and Garcia and hey, let them all develop while we lose every game.

I love the idea of projectile vomiting en masse at the Staples Center. Sign me up.

I don't get this either. He was the first guard off the bench for most of the early part of the season. The only thing I can come up with is that Salmons is playing so well that he has taken most of Price's minutes as our backup PG.

You could try: http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries/philadelphia.htm or any of the other usual places.

Gone in the summer --
The injured and forgotten Jamal Mashburn: $10.8M
Joe Smith: $6.8M
Todd MacCulloch: $6.8M
Greg Buckner: $3.4M
Alan Henderson: $1.2M
Steven Smith: $400K

That's not to say that Philly would trade any of them, I think Philly's owners are probably really happy with where things stand right now.

Yeah, Hoopshype isn't really the best choice to get that info from. Mashburn and MacCulloch are "injury retired" and don't count against the cap any longer. Buckner's contract runs through 2007-08 and Henderson's only counts for about $750k. You are better off going here (as posted in the Personnel Forum) for your info: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/basketball/nba/team.salaries/index.html

I'm not sure how much the owners care about the cap, it's still close to $18M a year they don't have to pay, and can reallocate as they see fit. This summer's FA market looks very weak anyway, so odds are it will just make the team a lot more financially sound. Maybe they can buy a competant coach while they're at it.

But the fact of the matter is, with a team which has been dismantled, they are going into the next draft with an excellent shot at Oden and a second first round pick besides. Even if they had no cap space at all this summer, they would still be looking extremely promising for the next several years (assuming no Sam Bowie/Olowokanki/Pervis type picks).

You kinda changed up there a bit, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the vast majority of owners keep a pretty close eye on the salary cap number and, by extension, the tax number.

Yeah, I know the have they have a lottery pick and (two actually) late first round picks coming their way. And maybe (with fingers crossed) that lottery pick will be a zinger, but late first round picks are always a crapshoot.

But, hey, if that is promising to you then great.

A shot at Oden plus additional first round picks looks a lot more promising to me than struggling for the bottom slot in the playoffs and a first round exit.

The coaching staff is taking a look at Douby.

Is there something wrong with being old school in regards to be at a game? I agree with him on everything.

What the heck does being old school have to do with anything? I've been attending games since the very beginning and, aside from the complaint about the lame music, I don't agree with anything thatguy has said.

If people want to get excited about some free stuff, so what? If you're not interested, don't stand up and try and get their attention... No harm, no foul IMHO.

As far as Slamson goes, that young man is very talented and works very hard every game. Kids love him and I happen to enjoy watching the kids... not to mention the acrobatic stunts the guy in the lion suit is able to perform on a regular basis. Face it, there have been times recently when the most entertaining thing on that court, sad to say, was Slamson.

Oh and out of curiosity? If this is all about being old school, where are the complaints about the dancers?

;)

Ok, Ok Slamsom is occasionly funny and lately, hes lessoned the torture of watching Kings games but I still reserve the right to dislike all the distractions. I go to the game to watch the Kings, act insane, and rest during the breaks. Not to oogle at the dancers.

< cough > Not that theres anything wrong with that < cough >
