Point Guard

which would be...a patch basically. Collison has been found wanting by every team he's been brought in as a starter for. He's just a low level "at least we have a starter" patch. I am brought back to watching Reke abuse him as a rookie, then we give away Reke, and now are courting the guy he abused. Pathetic.

On the other hand, our interest in IT seems lukewarm, and you do Collison, you might have one of the cheaper starting PGs in the league, try to win games with Cousins/Gay, and might have enough money left to spend to take a stab at helping the frontcourt.

reke abused many PG's in the league as a rookie. majority cannot handle his size.

If we lose IT, Collison is OK as a stop-gap. If it's a reasonable contract, I'm OK with it. No he's not ideal, but looks as if there's few other options at the minute. At least he will stay out of the way for the most part, or at least I'm hoping he can be roped in. I know he likes to shoot but I don't think he has the same ego as IT, wanting to prove himself better than everybody. The Rondo trade looks impossible to make happen at this point and there's very few realistic PG FAs around, so may have to make do with Collison. We don't have many assets for trading. IT in a S+T, and Ben. Couple of expirings but really, we don't have a lot.

Seems like a Collison signing and an IT sign and trade would address two issues at once. In the short term at least.

If the Pistions rumors are true (3 years, $24 M offer waiting for IT) one would imagine a S&T with IT plus one from the Landry/Thompson/Terry group could get a return of Josh Smith.

They would either imrpove defensively or implode and kill each other.

Hmm. i don't think it's too steep. He's a good player, and seemed improved in all facets last year. I like watching Isaiah play, but no way is he worth twice as much as Collison. I also think the team is better with Collison running the show whether or not they can pull off a sign and trade. Don't get me wrong, I'd like another addition but Collison is a solid player.

Collison is fine with me. Cheaper, doesn't penetrate quite as well, but essentially the same age as IT yet has a wider range of experience. He can be a bridge player, good enough to start while the team finds/develops an upgrade, and can be a great 6th man when/if the team contends.

If the FO can add any kind of front court D with an IT sign and trade, this could be a very good move.

Yeah, I think that's where I am at. Could do as a patch as long as a) we don't lose IT for nothing, he's a talent, and we can't give anymore of that away; and b) we use the freed up financial resources elsewhere.

I actually think things could run smoother under Collison, there won't be that same incredible pressure seizing everything up as three high usage guys all compete and completey dominate things. But he's not consistently an impact guy, so if he's it you need to recover that impact elsewhere.

paying a career backup 5.3 annually shows you what they think of IT when they could have just kept IT for a little more who even with all of his faults is a better asset, this is giving me flashbacks of the landry signing and to a lesser degree the aaron brooks signing.

As a starter last season,

33.8 MPG, 14.8 PPG, 5.3 AST, .481 FG%, .417 3P%, 18.8 USG%, 110 DRTG

Thomas as starter last season,

37 MPG, 21.2 PPG, 6.8 AST, .451 FG%, .337 3P%, 25.7 USG%, 111 DRTG

Sometimes less really is more. Especially if we get actual production from the SG spot. I hated the Landry signing, absolutely hated it. This one is OK.

Hardly a career backup. Collison has started 254 of his 376 games in the league. He's just borderline. He's a guy that you are always looking to upgrade if he's it. On the other hand, as was pointed out, he can also be a good backup PG, and if we start him it means we get a low level starter at half the price everybody else is using for their starters, so we could theoretically use that extra money to for instance get some help up front.

The team has a little more flexibility. Now there are the 2 scorers, and the 3 others don't have to be zero's on offense to fit. You can see how Ben/Nik can add to the offense.
While those 2, plus JT (if he returns)/Landry/ Dwill may not be offensive juggernauts, they are not good enough on D/rebounding to contribute as purely hustle players. The team can squeeze a little more value out of them as 2 way players.

Still, not a step forward until we see how they handle the rest of the offseason.

in my opinion i see him as a backup as he hasnt started consistantly in the past 2 years, he lost his starting job in both indy and dallas but did a solid job last year. if a sign n trade for rondo is in the works then this is a good signing.

The kings owe 55 million to JT/Landry/Collison over the next 3 years.

Also a defensive upgrade.

If Thomas' offer sheet comes in too high, Kings have a replacement. If they decide to match, they can keep both by stretching Jason Terry.
