Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest

Gonna go see it? If you do, don't spoil it for the rest of us!! ;)

It's not getting good ratings, but I don't care. Johnny Depp as a hot Scallywag is just plain irresistible.

Post your reaction here. I'll be back tomorrow night to give my two cents.

Yes, I saw it today. And I have to say it was awesome! Those so people who write so called "professional" movie reviews just need to relax and take it all in.

I loved it and I know I'm going to end up seeing it again. Ignore the reviews, you won't be sorry.

Sorry. It was a fun film, but it was less developed than the first. The storyline was also really familiar, almost same movie different bad guys.

i saw it this morning

i liked it, but not as much as the first one. it didn't have the same charm as the first one, which is to be expected since it's a sequel

i vehemently DISPISE! elizabeth swann!

the name of the 3rd movie has been release per imdb.com, pirates of the carribbean 3, the end of the world. i can't wait for it to come out, they left us with such a cliffhanger ending in dead mans chest.

Well then you will be hapy to know the 3rd film was shot at the same time as the seocnd and is in post production allready.

That's still entirely too long!

Definitely a go see on the big screen movie! Loved every minute of it and couldn't believe it was over when it was.

I feel ya, Evenstar.;)

I wanna see it!!!!

Thanks to Kingsgurl, however, I did get to experience (via cell phone) the pre-show excitement from the lobby of the theater and the post-game revelry in Kingsgurl's car.

Thank you for sharing, KG, but somehow it's still not quite the same as actually seeing the movie.

:D

just saw this movie last night, and i must say, it was pretty awesome. y'all should go see it if you didn't make opening day. i thought it was well done, for the most part. it suffered slightly from middle child syndrome (2nd film in a trilogy), as it lagged in places and moved too swiftly in others, all the while without fully establishing the plot, but it still receives my recommendation. honestly, it's hard to screw up a film starring a character as rich, quirky, and interesting as cpt. jack sparrow. johnny depp gets major kudos for this role. he has finally grasped how to preserve a sense of artistic integrity while at the same time penetrating into the very mainstream he used to abhor. jack sparrow is a character for the ages, ladies and gentleman. he's an enigma, and is extremely hard to read. depp refines his role from the first film, rather than playing a parody of it (though there are a few satirical moments that draw directly from events in the first film). the third 'Pirates' will blow the first two out of the water, i have a feeling.

So how long have you nursed this secret desire to be a film critic, Padrino?

;)

OMG !!!...and i thought this thread was just about the film !! ;)

Well, i just hope she wasnt driving at the time - although that might infer the 'revelry' was on the back seat ! :D

Wooohoo KG - go girl !!

All that and then some.

Those movie critics can - well you fill in the blanks, this is a family site after all.

We went and the movie theater was CROWDED and it was the first show of the day! We went and requested to see the next showing, which by the way I am not sorry at all about. It was the biggie screen and the super blow your eardrums out stereo.

From beginning to end you are cast away as you join strange lands and hideous creatures and death defying adventures. This one does stand up to the first in my most humblest of opinions. Oh, yes and the cliffhanger made you want to pee in your pants... how could they???

Almost as good as Lord of the Rings, and I am saying this as someone who loves the thrilling adventure type flicks.

If you have a spare two and a half hours sometime this weekend - GO SEE THIS MOVIE!! Ah, yes and make sure it is the giant theater and sit at the end of the row. Lots of people making pit stops to the lavatory might disrupt your love affair with the awesome Capt. Jack Sparrow...

Now about Ms. Swann... shame one you! Though, I do not blame you either.

When you come out, don't be shocked to see the snake like line waiting with bated breath to get in and take a seat behind you.

Oops!

:o

I should have said "post-film" revelry, of course. And I was actually referring to the sound of people who were excited about a great film they had just seen.

:D

next year is going to be a great movie year: pirates, harry potter, spiderman, fantastic 4, i think narnia at the end of the year. i can't wait :D

'Pirates' Sets 1-Day Box Office Record
Saturday July 8 11:56 PM ET

Move over Darth Vader. Captain Jack Sparrow is king for a day. Preliminary estimates released by Disney show that "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" earned $55.5 million on Friday, which would set the record for the largest one-day take at the box office.

The previous record was set last year by "Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith," which grossed about $50 million.

The movie was shown on 4,133 screens, beginning at midnight Friday. Only 2004's "Shrek 2" and "Spider-Man 2" debuted on more screens.

Disney also received reports of continuous sellouts and requests to add more screens at multiplexes.

"We're obviously thrilled beyond belief. Anytime you break an industry record ... the word ecstatic comes to mind," said Chuck Viane, head of distribution at Disney.

The swashbuckling sequel is on pace to eclipse the three-day, box-office record held by "Spider-Man" in 2002 with $114.8 million.

"This goes a long way of dispelling the notion that people don't want to go to movies anymore," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-officer tracker Exhibitor Relations. "People aren't waiting for the DVD on this one. They are going out to see it."

Hollywood has been mired in a filmmaking slump. Last year audiences stayed away from such offerings as the action bombs "Stealth" and "The Island" and the remakes "House of Wax" and "The Bad News Bears"

Revenues this year to date are at $4.6 billion, 5 percent ahead of last year's disappointing take, though factoring in higher ticket prices, attendance is up just 1.7 percent.

At the current pace, 2006 ticket sales would come in slightly below Hollywood's average of 1.46 billion a year over the last decade.

But Dergarabedian said those fortunes could change with "Pirates."

"It's on track to make $120 million or more this weekend," he said. "It's a monumental number. It's a great place for the industry to be right now."

Preliminary three-day box-office estimates were to be released Sunday, with final figures expected Monday.

I saw it on Thursday at the 12 am showing, long line and movie started at 12:30 so everyone could get in their seats and situated, was in 4 screens and all sold out, people applauded as it started, it was fun and an exellent movie, loved the ending and can't wait for more. ^_^

those that saw it, did anyone stay after the very long credits to see the clip after?
Yup! not the bigest treat in the world for those of us diahards who stay to the very end of every film but a nice pay off for reading an extreemly long list of credits.

Agreed.

X-Men 3 set the bar pretty high this summer with its little post-credit teaser.

I've always sat through the credits to watch for little "Treats" since Animal House....GGG is right, X3 set the bar high, I'm sorry I had to run to work yesterday and missed this one. And of all post credit "Treats" my favorite is from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"...:D

Anyone have other's they liked?
