Petrie - MAKE IT HAPPEN....PLEASE!

Okafor, maybe. Bosh, I wouldn't hold my breath..
If he's set on leaving Toronto we're in good position to make a sign and trade. I don't have the energy to figure out what every team's best offer could be, but Martin and Hawes or JT + throw ins has to be pretty competitive with the best of them..

I think the biggest barrier is the Maloofs committing the salary, but it would sell Arco out in no time which would fuel interest in the new arena.

Okafor or Bosh? How about both?

Kmart + JT + additional (andres perhaps) = Bosh
Hawes + K-9 = Okafor

One of the best 4's in the league + an inside presence to defend the basket to go along with the rest.

Let me ask something. Chris Bosh is a scorer no doubt...but umm...as far as I know he's not that great defensively. Does someone have a different opinion? Scoring is great, but we need a strong, tough, DEFENSIVE big man to clog up the paint. Does bosh really clog up the paint?

Also he's listed as a Forward, which I'm guessing is his natural position. Why are we tryingt o bring in Forward's and not centers?

Doc, the point is grabbing Okafor for defense and pairing him with Bosh as a 20-10 guy as part of an inside-out scoring combo with Evans (and hopefully keeping one of Hawes or JT to round out a 3 man rotation).

thats like 25-30 mill tied up into 2 players that don't really wow me. we're gonna have to extend omri, donte, tyreke in a few years. are these guys going to put us over the top? or will we be contending but not winning it all..........

Bosh is an all-star and Okafor is one of the few legit defensively minded centers available. Big men cost big money, and that is where we are weakest so we either suck it up financially or we suck it up on the court. There are better guys who will never become available and its clear we are on the way up so we can't bank on the lottery after this year. Bosh obviously would need a new long term deal but I believe Okafor would be expiring right around the time we have to start making decision on the kids. Not to mention that Noc probably isn't going anywhere and would also come off the books. Plus we'd be moving two of our most expensive contracts in these deals if they came to pass (Kevin and Kenny).

When you look at the elite teams they've all got immense amounts of money tied up in their frontcourt rotations, because basically that is where you BECOME an elite team.

Lakers: Gasol/Bynum/Odom $36.5mil

Cleveland: Shaq/Big Z/Varejao $42.1mil

Boston: Garnett/Wallace/Perkins $26.5mil

Orlando: Howard/Lewis (silly to call him a PF, but they do)/Gortat/Bass $43.9mil

Denver: Martin/Nene/Anderson $29.5mil

Dallas: Dirk/Dampier/Gooden $34.5mil

A Bosh/Okafor/either JT or Spencer trio would put you right in that same range both pricewise and talentwise. Considerably more talented than some of those groups actually. Its jsut the cost of having a great team. Can't be done without a strong frontcourt. Our frontcourt in the glory days, with a smaller salary cap? Webb $15+mil, Vlade $10+mil, Pollard $5mil. Right in that same area. A strong starting big just costs you $10mil. A star big costs you $15mil.

I would STILL love to wrestle DeAndre Jordan from the Clippers... The kid has loads of talent, and is a defensive minded C.. He still has a bit to learn, and he shouldn't bite on fakes as much as he does, but he still has great potential and knows how to stay in front of his man.

Grabbing a kid like Jordan or McGee would be a good idea. But I would still love to aquire an experienced big man. Someone to show them the way. Thats why I like Okafor or Brendan Haywood. Both are defensive minded centers and both rebound the ball. I just think it would lend some stability to our front line.

Although I was UNR student some years ago during the Farron Hand days, I never really liked McGee. His defense at UNR was worse than Fazekas (who I happen to be a huge fan of).. He hasn't shown much improvement in the NBA.. At least with Jordan you get some D.. But he does lack an offensive game outside of putbacks off his offensive rebounds.. Which I would take if we got a defensive big.

EDIT: for thos Fazekas fans he's in the Euroleague, putting up decent numbers in 25 mins 13ppg 8rpg on about 58% shooting.
