First of all let me just say that I love the Kings and it is really hard to see them struggle lately. It is very easy to point fingers and to try to find players who are at fault for the bad play. One thing for sure and let’s be real – get off Peja’s back. Stop expecting of him to do things in the game and play the game the way he never did.
He’s been injured lately and if you have not seen his hand you would not understand the degree of the injury. Prior the injury he had a stretch of 5+ games where he started playing like the good old Peja. Since he came back it is obvious that he is struggling, however, it is not only his fault. Look at the way he played when Vlade was rulling the high post, Christy and Bobby running the court…etc. This was a team without egos, without selfish play, with great bench, letting the game come to them.
The Kings have lately become a 1-on-1 team, looking away from Peja freeing himself up in the corners, or in transitions. The only reliable passer these days is Miller who thankfully emulated his game based on Vlade’s high post passing….. Even he goes during games without a point…..An All-Star Center going without one single point during a game….. That is pretty bad. The team does not work to get Peja double or triple screens in order to get him open. The guy works hard to open himself, cutting, moving without a ball and he gets no looks, passes or anything.
He’s not the type that will create his own shot. He needs to come off the screen, cut back door, run transition…etc. Getting the ball the last 5 seconds of the possession and have him chuck it up there just won’t do it.
It makes me really sad seeing how quickly people turned on him. Look at how much good work the guy has done over the years. You don’t hear about him getting in trouble in any situations. He is an exemplary citizen who has done a lot of good humanitarian work in Sacramento community over the years. He doesn’t have chemical imbalances like so many other players in the league.
I know we all want the Kings to do well, but come on. For those who want Artest trade – what a joke. I know Geoff is not that crazy.
