Patrick Ewing Jr. !!!!!!

best quote of the night.... "are we in 1985?" after Kings select Patrick Ewing Jr.

LOL!!!

could at least pick a international project w/ promise and stash him away for the golden year of 2010 when we have capspace..

Why not take a flyer on Bill Walker if that's the 'type' of player you want, at least he has POTENTIAL to be a player in the league. The ONLY explanation is they're trying to get his dad on the coaching staff to coach our bigs: Sheden/Thompson/Hawes.

Hell of a waste of a pick.. Even if it's a second rounder. The guy sucks butt.

A-men. Like I said in another thread, we could have gotten this guy undrafted ala Justin Williams, Mustafa Shakur et al. He won't make it past training camp...

Totally unrelated, but the Chicago Bulls selected Carl Lewis in the 10th round of 1984. :D

Hey guys, don't forget he was big-east 6th man of the year. I mean he came off the bench to put up a statline of 2 pts, 2 reb, 1 blk, 3 TO, 3 fouls in 20 minutes against Davidson when his Hoyas were upset by 4 pts in the NCAA's.

I can understand the Thompson pick to a certain extent, and even kind of liked the Singletary pick. To go for Ewing Jr. and pass on some of the really talented guys that had dropped a bit like a Hendrix, Hardin, or Walker...I am not sure I have words for how frustrated it makes me. I honestly believe Ewing Jr. would have gone undrafted if we hadn't picked him, and then we still could have tried to sign him anyway.

It always seems like one step forward and then two steps back when it comes to Petrie and the draft.

I'm expecting major bashing for this comment..............but I think it would be cool to sign (that is saying that we don't resign Johnson and Wright LOL) him and let him develop into a nice role player. I actually liked this pick, and I hope he proves to the kings staff that we could use him. Plus if we sign him it would put KT and SAR on inactive list.

Hey well like someone else said at least we could have one player representing the kings at the all-star break... even if its just in the dunk contest and its freak'n Patrick Ewing........ JR! LOL! hey who knows he did play well in all the pre draft camps... maybe he comes off the bench for Salmons after we trade Artest outa town!

Defensive Wizard?

I've been reading all of the Ewing Jr. bashing, and have gotten a different take from it. I'm pleased that the Kings are going more athletic, and I think that this could be a good insurance pick if Artest opts out. I like the idea of subbing him in for Martin to save his energy at the end of games in a defense for offense situation for a possession or two. Apparently, he has a lot of potential defensively, and that is an aspect that could give him some rotation minutes, and would make him worthy of a roster spot. This would give the lineup some length and defensive presence (Martin's obvious weakness).

He definately won't be filling it up any time soon, but he could be a great intangible guy, great chemistry/character guy, who could bring game changing defense and athleticism for key situations. All of the Kings picks are good character guys apparently, so maybe this is a statement that Ron and his combustibility are on the move...

And that was the highlight of this draft for me. None of our three choices are athletic ""freaks", like Randolph, but all are above average in athleticism. Very encouraging after selecting a non-athletic big last year.

I have to believe that Petrie picked Ewing because he truly believes he has a shot to make the roster as a defensive specialist. If not, choosing the next best Euro and "stashing" him overseas seemed like the most plausible move here to me.

who caes about ricky minard... uh i mean ewing jr.... we dont lose anything having him on the team. he'll be a d-league all star...

I think having Ewing is a good thing. He plays good-D and shoots well... he won't hurt ot have, better to have him then KT, QD, and even possibly Miki Moore... I say they trade Miller, Salmons and Moore and if need be trade Artest.

Lineup:
PG - Beno/Douby/Singletary
SG - Martin/Salmons
SF - Artest/Garcia/Ewing
PF - Thompson/SAR/Williams (Buy Out KT)
C - Hawes/Miller/Moore

That makes a 13 player lineup but thats with that the team looks like now and I think they'll trade some players.. this is an improved team with the draft alone but signing Beno and keeping the Artest watch on is what makes things crazy right now.

If things go bad.

Lineup:
PG - Singletary/Douby
SG - Martin/Salmons
SF - Garcia/Salmos/Ewing
PF - Thompson/SAR/Williams/KT
C - Hawes/Miller/Moore

Thats without Artest and Beno... I think we'd be okay at the PG spot but the SF spot is bad and Garcia/Salmons D is not very good... Salmons can score though... we'll see... START THE DAM SEASON ALREADY, LOL!

I like the pick, hes our Rodney Stucky.

huh?? First off Rodney Stuckey was drafted in the first round. Second Stuckey can shoot. Third Stuckey started for his respective college team. Forth Stuckey is a guard. Need I go on? I could if you want me to.

Not trying to be an *** by any means, but the two have absolutely ZERO in common other than they were both drafted and played college basketball.

So guys.. Jason Thompson could be our Chris Paul. Discuss.....

<sarcasm> You have watched him play right? I mean Georgetown is a small school and everything and are hardly shown on TV. </sarcasm>

The kid couldn't hit the side of the barn unless he was going up to slam dunk on it. He can play some D you are right on that. He will do OK, but to say he "shoots well" is hilarious. That's like saying Spencer Hawes has no post game to speak of.

I do like Ewing better than all the bottom feeders on the Kings like Thomas, Reef, Douby, but Ewing shouldn't be on an NBA roster when there are guys like Dhantay Jones looking for work. Jones is twice the ball player that Ewing is.

If drafting Ewing stopped us (from packaging up both our 2nd rounders for one) from drafting a guy like Chalmers or Jordan and if either one are successful then I will call this draft unsuccessful.

It's dumb to just waste picks that have no chance to make the team like Petrie did. I don't care if it is a second rounder. Bottom line is he drafted a player at a position we have too many players at who is probably not going to even make it past training camp. So why did Petrie do this instead of trying to stash a Euro prospect or drafting a big prospect? No frugging clue. Maybe he was smoking the glass pipe.
