Pass the Ball to Donte, and let him shoot.

Greene has a body and skill set that is unique, and if he is given minutes, i suspect he would produce admirably. I think his only problem is his team wants to run the offense, when in reality, Donte is the best chance we have of scoring. His team first attitude is not helping anyone right now, and im looking forward to a more selfish Donte Greene come regular season. After one game, I would have to say that Donte >= Garcia.

Didn't scouts say Donte took bad shots in college? Does that mean he took too many shots back then or that he just couldn't get open well enough? I never saw him in college so I can't judge but maybe he's trying not to force it. Although, he did jack up a couple of 3's in a row...

You can't blame him for a heat check. If he feels like its going in, i am more than willing to give him the greene light(lol)!!!

I love Greene too and he is one of the players I am most excited to watch this season, but I wouldn't call what he had a heat check. If i remember right, he made his first three but continued to miss the next 3 or 4 on a row. I think he needs to stick with his role going into the season before he turns superstar.

Could be the makings of a good nickname ;)
Now if only there was someone we could call Red Light. Then it would just be like the Green Light/Red Light playground games.

"Green Light... Red Light... Green Light... Red Light... Beno... Green Light! Oh what a play!"

Greene is gonna be one of those players this season that will have those one or two or maybe even a few more games where he is unstoppable. With his shooting, quickness, size, and athleticism there will be times that even all-NBA defenders won't slow him down. But that's not my concern. My concern is his wits right now. He's not experienced enough to be given the ball and allowed to work his magic. In 3-4 years, he might very well be our first option lets not force him into a selfish role right now. We don't need top scorers now, we've got one. What we need is a team and great passing.

Peja didn't have the leaping ability or athleticism to even mention in the same thread as Donte Greene

Yet I was also thinking about the Peja comparison, because they both suffer from being points-only players. If you don't like that comparison, then how about Kevin Martin as a SF? Closer?

There's a whole lot I like about Donte, but he's going to have to learn to contribute in more ways than just points.

Umm dude? Seriously? Did you NOT see Greene get up and block that shot? I doubt Peja has ever blocked anyone's shot, unless it was Earl Boykins.

I love the guy and think he maybe a star with superstar ability, but i don't know about giving Donte the full reign on offence such as a tmac, kobe, Lebron, and wade, yet. I want to see how he progresses during the season before giving him such access.

And by the way, does anybody know where i can get highlights of the kings game, mainly Greene and Thompson. I viewed the video on NBA.com but it was mostly portland/Oden highlights with a bit of Garcia, LOL.

Pedja has 110 career blocks which isn't impressive but it is good enough to get rid of your doubts. Comparing Greene with Pedja is a bad joke because Pedja has accomplished things as a player while Greene - well - You tell me.

Peja blocked an average of about 8 shots a year. I actually remember a few of them. But that's neither here nor there.

Greene averaged 1.6 blocks in 36 minutes in college. Garcia averaged 1.5 in 33 minutes, Shelden Williams averaged 3.8 blocks in 33 minutes. In the NBA, Williams has averaged 0.4 in 16 minutes, Garcia's averaged 0.6 in 21 minutes. So while it's great that he's made an NBA block, I don't think that one can safely assume that his 1.6 BPG in college will translate to more than maybe 0.5 blocks a game in the NBA. Which is 5 times better than Peja, but it's still only good enough for about 75th place in the NBA.

I didn't get to see the game last night, but I saw the stats and heard about how the game went down......My thinking now is that this team really has a chance to put up some points. Think about it: Garcia is improved and will be our No.2 scorer potentially, with K-Mart of course leading in that department. Donte Greene and John Salmons will be key, but I can imagine this team being in the top 15 of points per game.....Only problem may be that we give up more than we score, a la the Warriors.

One question: How did Greene actually look? Think he'll be a steady contributor this year, or was it more of a pre-season, no defense rookie fest?

Man, there's been a lot of piksi hate lately.

I still love you man, you're the only one around (the only one) who has a real objective view of the Kings at all times. Keep it up.

WOW testy aren't we piski. Season hasn't even started yet. If its this bad now you will be a joy to be around come midseason.

Piksi's not a big preseason fan lately. With Artest gone, I suspect that he will very much enjoy the regular season games in which KT does not appear.

To me Greene didn't look that good. The fact that he still found ways to score is pretty impressive in itself. Kevin Martin has made a career out of scoring points and when you look at box scores and see him at 24 pts you think back and say damn I don't remember him scoring that much. Greene was on the same lines as that LAST NIGHT 18 pts and I didn't think he was all that assertive.

He had 18 on 4-11. If he was doing a heat check, he was checking the pilot light to see why the heat wasn't coming on.

As for the Peja comparison, this was not a Peja like game. It'll be great if he can keep it up, but I think more importantly, he needs to work on the rebounding.

Donte's a decent jumpshooter, but he's got the potential to be much more. The Kings staff needs to develop him, and Donte needs to be willing to learn.

And he's got quite a different game than Peja IMO.

Oh man, I laughed out loud at work. :D

I'm not ready to annoint Donte anything after one preseason game. I do know I don't want a one-dimensional player. Donte needs to learn to play within the team concept first, including on defense.

This conversation iw waaaayyyy premature after one pre-season game; however, if we are going to have it....

Donte is nothing like Peja. I get the "points only" comparison, but their games are very different. Peja was/is one of the purest shooters in the league, who also became a very good cutter, but he was never great at creating his own shot. Donte seems like a pontentially very good shooter, but not as pure as Peja. However, he looks like has the speed/athleticism to creat his own shot better than Peja ever did. Similarly, he has the potential to be a much better defender because of those same attributes. Overall, he can be an elite scorer and plus defender if he develops right. A great building block, but he will need to develop his passing or rebounding better to be a true star player.

Instead of Peja, I think it might be fair to say that Donte could be a Corey Maggette with better defence and hopefully much better decision making.
