Sacramento has never really been a desirable place for "top-end" players to come to. We're not the "huge" stage that players can get mass media to them we probably never will be. And now (not the past we had different teams the past few years our leader was traded last year) we're back to a "cellar-dwellar". I still think we can do well this season with a bit of a change.
Whoosh...

Again I'm feeling old......it's been 15 years since my last mid-term and 19 years since I was a fraternity pledge

This trade will be consumated tomorrow after the Maloofs/Kings speak with Artest. Book it. The problem we have is that the team was in "preliminary" talks with the Pacers and Jim Gray decided to spout off and blew the lid of the thing. Artest hadn't spoken with anyone from the Kings(confirmed on the radio tonight) and he was not totally into what was going on. Not defending him but I think this was going to happen but the media has spun this out of control.

The media will follow Artest and keep Kings in the national sports spotlight. Just look at today. The whole country is talking about us.
Yeah, the Pacers and citizens of Indiana have been just thrilled with being constantly in the media spotlight because of Artest.

You'd be pissed if he was leaving your team to. But, you love it when he comes and you give him a chance. We'd hate him to if he did it. Just the way it rolls. It's a calculated risk.

Wait a minuet this story was leaked. It is very conceiveable that the team had planed to talke to Pedja but was waiting on certain things to fall into place (such as Artest's reaction to being told) But come on after demanding a trade last season and playing like **** this season Pedja had to suspect he was on the block.

I don't understand.

Peja asked to be traded, and he was (almost, anyway). Did he expect to be a part of the entire process, have to initial the deal himself? I mean, if go into your manager's office and ask to be transferred or reassigned, do you get mad when it gets done? If I remember correctly, Peja asked to be traded, and then made it clear that it didn't matter where he went. He just wanted to go -- anywhere.

Now, on the flip side, if you go into work on just another day and there's someone else sitting in your desk (which might happen to me one of these days if I don't get my branches numbers up), then I can understand how upset you'd be. But don't complain because they honor your request.

it's the media's fault

the kings probably didn't want to say anything to peja before the deal was official cause if the deal doesn't go through (like exactly what happened today) they avoid hurting the players involved (in this case peja).

the kings should've been extra quiet and careful not to leak out info from the media.

now all we have is a big mess. :|

Peja has later stated he is content on staying in sac... and finding out by watching t.v that you are going to be traded is hardly the way I would want to find out.

Wasn't he told more than once that he was not going to be traded?

Anyway, I would be more upset that they are going to talk to Artest. I would want to be acknowledged as a participant in the trade. indy and Sac are going to "talk to Artest." I would feel a little disrespected at this point as well.

The request was more then a year old and it was de facto withdrawn. I understand that fans could hold it against him that he technically never openly rescinded the request, but I also understand that he may not have wanted to rescind the trade publicly in the wake of CWebb trade. Just this morning in that SacBee article (worst timed article ever!) he was pledging his future to the KIngs at the discounted salary if needed be.

I sure would be pissed off if I was him, but if he kept the stiff upper lip for so long, including when he made that trade request he should have done the same tonight. The only mitigating cisrcumstance is that he may have been ambushed by reporters.

As piksi said - he needs a new agent.

Why?

Peja is not the one objecting. He is out of the loop. Either he is traded, or not. Only Artest is the problem. Hence everybody scrambling to meet the nutcase. Its not normal procedure to meet with an NBA player before trading him. Not his call. Part of the collective bargaining agreement, and part of the downside to earnign a lifetimes worth of salary every year to bounce a ball.

Do think Peja deserved a phone call at least. But not getting a personal handholding meeting has nothing to do with respect. Taht's jsut Artest's unprofessionalism kicking in.

When Peja asked for the trade he didn't go quietly to Geoff Petrie. He went to the media. He has no reason to be upset in my opinion except that he seems overly sensetive.

I don't remember the request being withdrawn.

I agree that hearing you've been traded from a premature TV report is probably the worst way to find out, but how can you be surprised? And why would you be upset when that's exactly what you asked for?

I hope that all ends well, whether that means Peja stays in Sac (which is probably not possible at this point), or if that means he gets traded to the Pacers or anyone else, but I don't think he should be upset at the Kings -- especially if the Pacers guy leaked the info early.

I'm a bit confused. I thought Pedja did get told about the trade and was at the hotel making arrangements to return to Sac. I think what he heard on TV was that the deal was off (whcih was probably a media leak).

My guess is that at that point Pedja was really feeling dragged all over emotionally. He's human, he was proabably tired. This is also jerking his family's feelings back and forth with his wife on the verge of delivering a baby. It's got to be very upsetting and disruptive.

It is a consequence of the business of professional sports. That doesn't make it easy for either the players or their families.

Are you sure about that?

You think GP found out from BSPN about Peja's request?

That's my point. He either never felt the need to officially announce that it was withdrawn as he went about the business of "staying" with the Kings, either due to some misplaced negative macho-energy or because it would be really awkward to do it after Webber trade.

Besides, what's the shelf-life of a trade reqeust? ;)

My point was that I do not think that we should be talking to Artest. If he wants to come here, HE should be coming to us at this point, not the other way around. He should be convincing us to take him. We should not be trying to convince him to come.

He went to GP an tried to contact Maloofs who wouldn't return his calls until Pedja and his agent "strategically" leaked info to the media. But your point is still valid, Maloofs and GP could have felt betrayed too at that time.
